This Blog Has No Purpose

@charity-elizabeth

Hi my name is Charity (she/her), I'm 17 & I'm asexual. This page has no purpose so enjoy. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or want to talk about anything!

TIL about Elevated Access, an organization of licensed pilots who are providing FREE air transportation to people who need abortion healthcare or gender-affirming healthcare.

Elevated Access has the full details of how it works for passengers at their website but the short form is:

  • You contact an abortion/gender-affirming care support organization (like the Midwest Access Coalition)
  • (If the organization doesn’t know about Elevated Access, and a ~100-600 mile direct flight might help you get access to the healthcare you need, then let the support organization know about Elevated Access!)
  • The organization works with Elevated Access to find a pilot and schedule the flight
  • Elevated Access connects you and your pilot, and you arrange any final details.
  • You meet the pilot at a small airport (no TSA, no lines, and you don’t have to tell anyone why you’re there). Then you travel from your state with bans to a state where you can get your care.

These aircraft can cost ~$100~400/hr to operate but by FAA law, the pilots cannot receive compensation for these volunteer services. They’re just donating their time, abilities, money, and aircraft for the cause.

These aren’t commercial airline flights, they’re what’s called General Aviation, which means “small” planes and often private pilots. As a licensed pilot w/ about 200 hours flying time in this world I’ll just say that’s a GOOD thing. There are many more GA airports than big commercial hubs, so no matter where you’re located or where you need to go, chances are there’s a small airport within 20 miles. Think of it like a road trip but with a much better view :)

What the hell actual?

I got hit with this charge and called the billing department. They explained that it was due to calling in a counselor (which didn’t happen), providing emotional support (I was given a stack of tissues and left tf alone), and extra labor from the present nurse (by extra labor do you mean handing me a box of tissues and shutting the door when she left?). After a firm chat, they removed the absurd charge.

Call and have a firm chat. No cursing or yelling, just explain the absurdity of this.

happy dean winchester is saved day!!

because the writers may have forgotten about the handprint, but i’m sure these two haven’t

I honestly wish Cas would drag that out every time there’s an argument. “Cas you can’t—” “I DRAGGED YOU OUT OF HELL.” “…Yeah, okay.”

half of the replies to this crypto dork talking about the nft crash are just bots replying en masse thinking it’s a project announcement. it’s like a disaster movie set on a futuristic cruise ship and while guests are panicking to get off the sinking ship the robotic servers are rolling around offering hors d’oeurvres like nothing is wrong

Don't call me high functioning.

Don't call me high functioning, when my room has been a mess for the last month and even though I have enough time to clean it up and change it I can't find the energy to do it. Don't call me high functioning when I can't call the psychiatrist to set an appointment because I just can't find the strength to do it and more so I'm terrified of it for no reason.

Don't call me high functioning when I can't get out of bed without an urgent need. Don't call me high functioning. I'm as autistic as anyone else. Just because I can hold a conversation with you and look into your eyes does not make me "high functioning". My struggles are deeper than meets the eye. When I get frustrated from the egg breaking when I wanted to make a fried egg, to the point of a meltdown. When my intrusive thoughts get the best of me, when no education system could find the right place for me, when I can't hold a job for longer than three months. To call me high functioning is an insult. It deprives you from understanding how much is going on beneath the surface. So just beware of those two harsh words. Yes, I can talk at times, and I have wise things to say. But don't let that fool you for a moment. My intelligence does not make it easier to function in society.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand fetal identification cards and fetal social security cards that are issued by the state, qualifying fetuses for full American citizenship and every right, benefit, or entitlement therein.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand that the mothers of the fetus can qualify for tax exemptions, tax credits, and any other tax deductions currently available to parents, from the moment of conception

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand free prenatal care education, free social services, free medical treatment for the parents, or any other necessary supplementary medical care, up to 6 months after birth

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand free, universal healthcare for every single child under the age of 18, including inoculations, checks ups, and doctors visits.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand extended, paid maternity leave for BOTH the mother and father, for a minimum of 8 weeks.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand an automatic qualification for welfare or SNAP benefits, beginning at the moment of conception and applicable until the child is 18 years old.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand free, universal daycare services until the age of 12, minimum

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro-life movement to demand free, universal pre-schooling education

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every single proponent of the pro life movement to demand laws and regulations proving that they actually CARE about the child after birth. If bringing a child into this world is SO important to you, then everything I’ve listed here should be a top priority AFTER banning abortion.

If roe v wade is overturned, I fully expect every proponent of the pro-life movement to demand that we actually give a shit about the life they care so much about.

Your local Law PhD is going through the draft SCOTUS ruling overturning Roe / Casey and here are a few thoughts, if you want a quick overview of the thing as I get angrier with each new point, culminating in me loosing my absolute shit :

  • The main argument is basically "yeah, we are bound by Casey, but Casey relies on Roe, and Roe was wrong, so we can overturn all that"
  • This is not a drill, this is the actual, proper, end of Roe and federal protection of abortion, if this passes.

  • "this was not protected in the XIIIth century England, and there fore should not be protected now" is an actual legal argument that I had to read with my own two eyes

  • Quick reminder : overturning Roe/Casey does not ban abortion, but it says that there is no constitutional right to abortion at federal level, and therefore this is for each individual US state to decide
  • The draft basically says that this is State business, specifically, the legislative power of each states should decide.
  • but what worries me is that if a State wanted to actually criminalize abortion, the same reasoning could hold. Meaning that SCOTUS would not give any costitutional protection to the one being prosecuted, because historically the tradition is to criminalize rather than protect their right. Basically while this does not make abortion a crime, it lets the States decide up to an including criminalizing it
  • This would still be under the control of each State's own Supreme Court though.

  • I am pretty sure SCOTUS writing 100-pages long rulings is a self-defense mechanism where if you ever want to litigate to overturn a ruling, it is a dantesque effort
  • (more under the cut bc this got long oops)

You know, this situation (re: SCOTUS leak of Alito’s draft on Roe vs. Wade) is dire, but it’s not as dire as it could be. Thanks to the leak, we have a precious gift. We have time. We have it in writing what’s coming and what it’s going to look like, and that means we can organize. We can make plans, we can share information, and we can put pressure on the executive branch to do something. We can make it known that this isn’t what we want– and it’s not. Almost 60% of Americans support abortion being legal. Hell, even most American Christians (63% of the Protestants and 55% of the Catholics) think it should be legal in most or all cases. It’s just the damn evangelicals that are ruining things for the rest of us. (And frankly, they’re ruining everything for everybody.)

Information is going to be incredibly important in this fight. Right now, I’d like to talk about demographics, because the majority of this country wants legal access to abortion. The information I’m using comes from a 2021 Pew Research Center survey, which has not been repeated in 2022– so it’s recent enough data to be useful.

The population demography of who does/doesn’t support abortion is fascinating. When you stratify people by gender, age, education, and religion, only one group doesn’t support abortion. Every other demographic group skews pro choice, and it’s usually by a pretty substantial majority. The closest is the 3% majority of adults with a high school or less education- 50% of them say support in all or most cases, 47% say no, and 3% didn’t answer. In every group except evangelical Christians and overall Protestants (because the evangelicals bring that average down), 50% or more of the population supports abortion. It’s not anywhere close to even splits anywhere except at that one education point.

Where we do see major splits is along political lines. Among Republicans, a whopping 78% of conservative Republicans say that abortion should be illegal in most or all cases… but 59% of moderate/liberal Republicans think it should be legal. Since 63% of respondents who said they were Republican or leaned Republican don’t support legal abortion, this should give an indication of the ideological dominance of conservative versus moderate Republicans- basically, that Republicans push further to the right. We kinda knew that already, from… everything… that’s been happening… but it’s important to get data.

Democrats on the other hand, overwhelmingly support legal abortion. There’s even bigger gaps than the Republican ideological gaps!

So what can we do with this data if we care about supporting legal abortions? Frankly, we need to pressure Democratic leaders to grow a damn backbone. Their party overwhelmingly supports legal abortion, and even if Roe is overturned, we could still use this time to push for more states to expand protection and write abortion access into law. We also need to remember: most of the country wants legal abortions. That, if nothing else, should inspire courage and give some hope.
