Not a Second Class Citizen Any Longer
Michael Republicano submitted:
My husband and I were married in August 2008. In California. When marriage was available to all in CA. Then in November, Proposition 8 passed and the right to marry was taken away from gay people in our state. Our marriage was ruled to be still valid, but it cast us into a precarious state. Would our marriage be further challenged? Would our friends ever have the right to marry again?
Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is a victory for ALL Americans. It is a victory for Love. It is a victory for the institution of marriage. It is yet one more confirmation that America is moving toward upholding the creed “the land of the free.”
Thank you SCOTUS. Thank you President Obama. Thank you Eric Holder. Without your support and fair mindedness, we would still be fighting for one of the basic tenants of freedom - the right to marry the person you love.
