i know its the mets, but this is the coolest shit i’ve ever seen a human being do
Wtf????
Smoove with it too
This is the kind of shit you see in anime that shows that a certain character is stronger than other characters.
“Pathetic. You can’t even hold the bat you dare step to the plate? Have you no respect for the sport?”
reminds me of this gif
Baseball players are to be feared
Reblogging for the last one
^Same for me
They just kept getting progressively more “woah”
much woah
Oh my god this is a lucky universe
every time this post comes around, my favorite part is the “I know it’s the Mets” qualifier at the beginning lmao like how baseball that this zillion note posts starts with “sorry for putting this hellteam on your dash, bUT”
Y’all have no idea how hard I was trying not to laugh in class at that poor bird
They…they just blew up a fucking bird…
Ball’s dead. Bird’s dead. I’m dead
A Thought
Any analysis of Superman and Captain America should involve two main points. 1) They are every bit the caricature of honest goodness that they are said to be. And 2) BEING a a caricature of honest goodness means not just fighting obvious villainy, but raging against institutional injustice, even when it comes from “Legitimate” sources. There is a difference, however. The Kent’s raised Clark with a strong moral compass, but also good sense. He’s very aware that, as Superman, anything he does comes with a tinge of Threat. He’s keenly aware that with the power he wields, the only way he can continue to operate is by appearing completely nonthreatening to the status quo. Unless he is preventing immediate, obvious harm, he has to be very careful with his intervention. He’ll see a city councilman skimming funds from schools, a factory illegally disposing of waste, or Cops inflating their quotas with bogus charges, and he’ll be outraged. But, Superman can’t do anything about those things. If he intervenes, people won’t see Superman protecting civilians from police abuse, they’ll see Superman Threatening A Cop. If Superman expresses any opinions besides the most milquetoast “Be Kind To One Another” stuff, it gets spun into “Scary Indestructible Alien Man Wants To Take Over The World”. So, Superman takes all that rage, every injustice and abuse he sees, and those that he cannot solve as Superman, he gives to Clark Kent. And behind the “Aw Shucks’ Kansas Farmboy affect, Clark Kent is RUTHLESS. He will pick apart your life and nail you sins the sky for all to see. Like, everybody knows about Lois Lane, and she’s objectively the better journalist, but people always underestimate Clark. Those that remember anything about him usually think of him as harmless, the guy who comes to collect the statements your media people prepared, so you’re caught off-guard when the fangs come out. A Clark Kent interview goes like this: First Question: Hello Police Chief Smith. So, how did you get involved in law enforcement? Second Question: What are the key values that drive your police department? Third Question: On September 14th, you called your officers together and told them to, and I quote “ Pull over every [racial slur] you can find out there. If they let you search, say you smell weed and bring them in. If they don’t, bring ‘em in for refusing to cooperate. Just get those [expletive deleted] in cuffs and paying fines, or else start looking for a new job”. Would you say this policy of deliberately targeting racial minorities is in line with the values you described earlier?” And Clark Kent doesn’t stop after he gets his headline. It might end up on Page 3, but he’ll keep the story going until your career is torn to shreds and staked outside as a warning to others. And then it’s back to human-interest stories and the feel-good beat until he selects his next target. Superman is forced to overlook things, but he IS looking, and he won’t forget, and just because he’s not throwing you into the sun, doesn’t mean he intends to spare you. Steve Rogers on the other hand will interrupt an interview to kick the shit out of a crooked real estate developer for driving people out of their homes. When arrested he’ll say “I’m sorry, how about we just chalk up the next time I save the world as community service”.
Sarah Rogers was too busy working doubles at the hospital and dying of pneumonia to teach Steve common sense.
Ok. It's a political post. Usually tumblr is my safe space but things are getting out of hands (have been for a while tbh).
Farmers in India have been protesting since September against three farm laws that would put them at the mercy of the corporations. These laws were passed without proper discussion and a dubious session in the Rajya Sabha, which is the Upper House of Legislature in Indian government (equivalent to the senate in us gov, i think). Farmers have been protesting in Punjab for 2 months until they decided to protest in the capital of India, New Delhi. Since late November, these people have been protesting outside the Delhi border, in the cold, rain. Over 70 people have died.
On 26th January, the Republic Day, a day celebrated to commemorate the occasion on which the Indian Constitution officially came into effect in 1950, farmers all over the country decided to hold a tractor rally. These protests are organised by multiple farm unions from all over India. One group decided to storm the Red Fort, and raise the Nishan Sahib (not the flag of Khalistan, a separatist movement) in one of the pillars at Red Fort. Some find this problematic because traditionally the Red Fort is where the PM unfurls the tricolour on Republic Day. Some do not because Nishan Sahib and the tricolour have existed side by side. Nishan Sahib is not anti India. Violence also occurred at Red Fort and other parts of the rally. Two culprits have been named in this incidents. Farm unions have distanced themselves away from them because this is not what they had planned and they do not support it. One of the culprits have past connections to the ruling party BJP. Farmers have returned to the Delhi border.
The media has been absolutely useless in all of these. National tv media has labelled the farmers as terrorists and anti national. The media in India is absolutely sold out to the ruling party. Think of Fox News, and every channel is Fox News and tripping on acid. You can compare them to Radio Rwanda. If it wasn't for digital media, we wouldn't know the truths. Naturally, they have declared the 26th incidence as something similar to that of the Capitol insurrection, which is frankly insulting. These farmers are protesting for their rights, not some white supremacist believing in a conspiracy theory. Besides, the Red Fort is a public space, not a restricted area like the us capitol. Red Fort is tourist spot, not the seat of the government. Most importantly, the media won't report on the multiple instances of peaceful protests that happened in the rest of the country, when men, women, and children took part, where the common people of Delhi welcomed the farmers with flowers. There's no denying violence happened, but that wasn't the only part.
Now here is the problem. This government has a pattern.
As I said the Red Fort incidence was from someone with previous links to the ruling party. Violence happened and one farmer even died. The Godi media (godi means lap in hindi, since the media is sitting in the lap of the government) has maligned the farmers. On 28th there were "locals" who protesting against the farmers. They pelted stones while the police watched from the sidelines. There's no concrete evidence, but many believe them to be hired goons to incite violence.
They even joined in the violence.
Arrests have already begun, people are missing and internet has been shut. Last time it had happened, was during the Delhi riots last year over CAA-NRC. Its very likely to happen again.
We need to get more people talking about this, specially in the international community. Spread the word.
Tagging the desi mutuals I can think of. More information is always welcome but please make sure they are accurate. Cool! I missed getting to see it tonight...er...last night.
Went to the SpaceWeather site and here’s a few from their gallery:
not to be all “tw*light did nothing wrong” but misogyny honest to god killed the hunger games
it was no masterpiece sure but it also sure as hell wasnt the love triangle bullshit everyone made it out to be. seriously everyone blames this whole “YA fiction with the special One and teens overthrowing the oppressive government tropes” trend on the hunger games but the truth is that none of those books are anything like thg
god!!! im mad!! name one cliche YA novel where the government actually is BAD like not just “oh love is illegal” or “they barcode you!!uwu” instead of like. actual slavery and rampant poverty while the rich waste their money on dumb bullshit!! and name one main character who ACTUALLY suffers under the government’s regime!! who actually starves and works and suffers and has genuine REASON to rebel!! thg is the only YA book that had anything to say about wealth disparity and the dehumanization of the poor,, every other YA book uses it as a plot device to put some dumbass romance together or show how “badass” the MC is!! thg is genuinely emotional and the focus of the book isnt katniss’s archery and how cool she is and its NOT gale or fucking peeta bread. and then the marketing for the stupid fucking movies took the WHOLE POINT OF THE BOOK (which is to satirize and critique how women in entertainment have any serious things about them ignored in favor of whatever dress theyre wearing or who they’re dating) and turns that into……….. a fucking love triangle. and then the world forgets it because its just another dumb teen girl series. okay.
Me @ myself rn
oh also last thing. the fact that at the end katniss chose to kill Coin (the rebel leader/soon to be newest dictator) instead of just having a plain and simple boring happy ending shows just how different thg is from the YA fiction its compared to. no other book in this genre would have the guts (or even the idea) to put out such a blatant, obvious “the fight against oppression never ends, stay diligent” message and thg is iconic for it and it shows how much thought was actually put into its message. im sorry to susan collins for my 12 yo self for not understanding at the time and thinking it was just bad writing
thanks to everyone adding on about the representation! about finnick’s story and being trafficked! and about peeta and his disability!! and katniss and her indigenous coding and PTSD!! And about how it shows how war n dictatorships always prey on marginalized groups!! and a billion other things!!! that the movies just fucked off n forgot about!!!
Also, like…Katniss’ love triangle with Peeta and Gale was never about the love aspect. She was choosing between war and peace. It wasn’t “oh nooo i have too many boys :(” it was “one of these people represents war and violence and revolt, which is necessary in the world but unsustainable, and one of them represents peace and love and rebuilding, which can tolerate too much but ultimately is the goal.” and it had to be a romantic relationship because she had to be put into a position where choosing one cut her off from the other. katniss choosing peeta was NEVER about choosing the boy she loved most; it was about choosing a future where she counted up good things in the world, where she had children because she was no longer terrified of what their future would look like, where she grew primroses in her garden and started moving on from living her entire life steeped in trauma. gale was important to her because he was ferocious like her; but even he goes further than her, like when he refuses to run away with katniss because he wants to be part of the rebellion.
thg is a war story. peeta and gale both represent another aspect of what happens when the war is over - you can focus on it, enjoy it even, continue to bring it back every time something goes wrong; or you can slow down, rebuild, heal, refuse to glorify the effect it had on society and you personally. choosing one means you cannot have the other. you cannot hold hands and play in the grass with peace and war at the same time: you marry one of them. doing so erases your ability to commit to the other. and katniss’ choice of peeta is significant because she is choosing peace. she is choosing, despite how hard it is and how easy it would be to be bitter and broken and angry, to heal.
YES THAT LAST PART
The Hunger Games is just a good book. Period.
Rhea Dease and Parmarth Rai, creators of the Chand comic strip:
“What’s a pride list without Dutee Chand? Now a household name, Chand hailed from a BPL (Below Poverty Line) family of weavers in the tiny and relatively nondescript village of Gopalpur, Odisha. She didn’t start running recreationally, but rather as a means to an end – to secure a sports quota that would grant her a decent education. But her exceptional skills on the track set her apart, earning her the moniker of ‘fastest woman in India’. She took home medals for the country in the 100m and 200m sprint in events like the Asian Athletics Championships, Summer University Games in Naples, and the National Senior Athletics Championships in Ranchi. She held her head up high even as her family and village, adoring and welcoming as they were about her accomplishments on field, voiced their disapproval about her choice of partner off it. @eyolouss and I are in awe of her spirit and sportsmanship, in how she gave back to her family and village despite their reactions to her coming out, and how she continues to empower young athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as closeted lgbt youth to be able to speak their truth.”
Dutee Chand:
“What I went through in 2014 [gender tests and ban over her elevated testosterone levels] was widely written about. Everyone got to know what was happening and how wrong it was. The awareness helped me win that fight and return to competitions. When I saw my story broken down into simple details [by Rhea and Parmarth’s illustrations], it took me back to my schooldays. We never forget those deep stories told through pictures we read as kids. [Having a comic strip] feels special. When I came out last year, I had no idea what it could lead to or whom it could inspire. But I knew I had to tell my story.”
DUTEE CHAND y'all
hot take: mcu has done such a piss poor job of writing steve's character, of building his relationships that literally there are no posts about him just being a normal.. person, no headcanons, no meta, no move-to-tears posts, nothing and i will die mad about it
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 hell yes! This tea is SCALDING
I was just thinking about this yesterday about how we have a near perfect understanding of Tony's upbringing, we've seen his parents, we know he went to MIT, and we witness him having hobbies and interests and hyperfixations and creating things alone. We even have access to his dreams and his ptsd episodes but Steve Rogers literally has no life outside Captain America??? The only past we witness is his obsession with his best friend and a girl be briefly knew and kissed one time and that's so weird if you think about Tony's character being limited to Rhodey and Maya Hensen outside of being Ironman 🤷🏽♀️
According to some comic, his dad died on WW1, according to some other he came back from WW1 a violent alcoholic and Steve got that keep getting back up attitude from his mom, who later died due to poverty, being a single mom after his dad died, doing multiple blue collar jobs and not being able to afford healthcare for them both. I learned all this from fanfic authors but MCU Steve? We just know that Bucky asked him for a sleepover after his mom died offscreen and he declined. That's it???
Thanks to fanfic authors, I also know that he dropped out of art school to join the army but have we ever see him do anything at all with it the way we see wonder woman work at a museum? No! We saw him sketch once in TFA but that's it and his only human moment post TFA was a 2 minute deleted scene from the first Avengers movie.
Does he have ptsd from crashing a plane and being frozen for decades? Nope. Dude just walked it off and had some punching bag therapy for tough guys.
It's like he just stopped being a person after TFA and was just limited to a two dimensional superhero constantly in Captain America mode.
THIS. FUCKING. THIS.
There is so much Steve content to explore in the comics! Like you said there's his parents, his relationship with Bucky, with every other avenger, his art, him.
I loved TFA because we got to see him before he was Captain America, that little Brooklyn guy who hated bullies no matter where they were from. But by the end even that rushed past so many unexplored Steve Rogers things, it failed to show what made Captain America human which is his greatest strength. "Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." Good job movie, you did what you said you wouldn't ever do.
CATWS tried but it was still so focused on Hydra, and how the Captain would fight the bad guys ™ with a stupid kiss thrown in with Nat. which. btw UGH we could've have so much of their beautiful friendship. and 5 seconds of Steve trying to get Bucky back. IT was STILL. about other people and never Steve. They could've built up Bucky and Steve so well, like they did with Tony and Rhodey's. Sure, it wasn't much for them either but the solid writing fortified Rhodey's role in Tony's life real good.
Meanwhile Endgame literally reduced Steve's already two dimensional character to one dimensional by literally making him leave Bucky, HIS. BEST. FRIEND. He watched Bucky die, felt guilty for God knows how long about his death, someone who he literally lost a fight to, if it meant it would save him.
Not to mention the total fiasco that Civil War was because the MCU really said: whoops we literally spent no time building Steve's character so we'll just make another The Avengers and call it a day.
They were Captain America movies but that's all they were. You could've put any other white guy, with blond hair, in place of Steve Rogers and it would've still made sense because we never got to see Steve Rogers at all.
All of this, especially the bucky bits, because the writing keeps TELLING us they are best friends but the only thing it SHOWS us is
Steve wants to save Bucky - Steve makes reckless decisions (burns bridges, gets beat up, etc) - Steve saves Bucky - OK bye Bucky🙋🏼♂️ See you in your next plot device appearance. There's none of the good stuff of a best friend dynamic the way Tony and Rhodey have. Him and Natasha could really be best friends but even that was pretty shallow.
The third movie really should have been him getting the team together, moving into Avengers tower, and becoming an actual leader with some found family goodness to go after Hydra if they wanted to limit him to Captain America.
Civil war should have been an Avengers movie much later. We met Tony's parents and witnessed their deaths in Captain America Civil War but we know nothing at all about Steve's family, which is pivotal to understanding a layered character, like that's so bizarre!
One of the biggest tragedies of mankind through out all of history is all of the female geniuses who were never allowed to reach their potential and contribute their gifts to the world. Think of all the female “Mozarts” or “Einsteins” who could have been, but never were.
men were raping them, forcing them to bear child after child, keeping them trapped at home and economically dependent, exchanging food and shelter and a promise of “safety and security” for sex & heirs.
It’s fascinating that the OP brings up Mozart and Einstein because Mozart’s sister Marianne “Nannerl” was a child prodigy on the harpsichord in her own right, but was forced to give up her career to get married on her father’s orders. Albert Einstein’s first wife, Mileva Maric, was a physicist and sole female student at Zurich’s Polytechnics and the second woman to study Physics and Mathematics full-time at their department, and may’ve collaborated with Einstein on his early papers, but according to their son she had to put aside her scientific ambitions to take care of the children. So these cases of unfulfilled female potential are more literal than you’d expect.
The Avengers (2012) | Deleted Scene
snatched yo “i’m not like other girls” ass real quick!!!
This movie had no business being as good as it was. Go watch it.
Noted
The thing about this too is that both girls had seriously good points.
Bethany called out Martha for why she is judgemental (more out of fear of not actually being liked so she pushes away), but she also agrees with Martha’s point that Bethany and her friends are somewhat treated like objects by their peers.
Bethany likes being on camera and taking pictures of herself because she is super confident in herself, she enjoys being social, and she enjoys connecting with her friends (as many of us do), but she also understands Martha’s point about how the reasons why she does these things is not the same as the motives of the responses her peers have.
Additionally, this film shows how the Popular Girl character isn’t actually a bitch that has to be taught some sort of lessons before she has an epiphany and changes how she acts. No, Bethany is actually really sweet. Throughout the movie she tries to support and encourage Martha’s confidence, teach Martha how to flirt, etc so that Martha herself grows more comfortable in herself and confident. Additionally, when Bethany makes her point, she isn’t in her face about it or makes it into an argument, she is calm and has a reasonable discussion to get at the root of what Martha is facing and understand it so that she can help, which is why Martha is able to confront the idea herself. Bethany shows a complete flip of the popular girl character.
Seriously this movie is actually so good, especially the dynamics between these two characters and their character growth based on each other. Please watch this.
Also I forgot Jack Black wasn’t a woman while watching this so there’s that
TMI Gang Christmas Headcanons
- Alec doesn’t really understand Christmas. But Clary, Simon and Magnus have convinced him to celebrate mundane holidays over the years. (I am just saying put a dead tree in the middle of the house and leaving snacks for an old man who is going to break in at midnight doesn’t sound very sensible!)
- Max and Rafe keep trying to sneak into the living room before Christmas to open their presents. Magnus literally has to put up wards around the tree to stop them.
- Magnus also has to magically shut Simon up from making Christmas puns. (All right. I’ll stop! No need to get the santa-claws ou-)
- Izzy makes a gingerbread house every year. Simon tells her that it is good as Rachel Green’s English Trifle.
- Jace still doesn’t believe that Santa Claus is not real (ALL THE LEGENDS ARE TRUE I SAID WHAT I SAID) so Magnus has to magic a chimney into the loft every year to “let Santa in”.
- Clary dressed Max up as an elf this year. Izzy helped Rafe dress up as a reindeer.
- Simon’s band started to do Christmas Carols recently. Their latest hit is “All I want for Christmas is Finpoe Rights”
- Max doesn’t understand certain traditions yet. (No, blueberry. We cannot hang a daddy’s boots just because it has more space than a sock)
- Magnus once asked Alec to dress up as Santa Claus and it lead to a horrible misunderstanding. (What do you mean why? Magnus, you are the one who wanted to…Ohhhhh wait. You meant for like Christmas…)
- Clary makes christmas jumpers for the gang every single year. According to Izzy, “they are not ugly per se”.
- Simon teaches Max and Rafe about Hanukkah and the holiday armadillo.
- Jace loves “Love Actually”. He watches it with Clary every Christmas eve.(To me you are perf-Jace, are you talking to the mirror again?)
- The kids leave out cookies and milk for santa since he “loves them so much”. They don’t know that it is the work of Chairman Meow.
- Alec buys a shitload of mistletoe and hangs them in every single spot he can find. (I thought you didn’t believe in Christmas traditions, Alexa-MAGNUS, ARE YOU GOING TO KISS ME OR NOT CAUSE WE HAVE MORE GROUND TO COVER!!!)
The African Renaissance Monument in Senegal, larger that the Eiffel tower and the statue of liberty .. Things you don’t see in mainstream media. @KrystVegaNeteru
This is beautiful.
I think this picture better illustrates the size of that monument.
I never even knew this existed this makes me so happy to find out about it
I’m telling you elephants are chill motherfuckers. They fucking love being helpful. They once defended a man with heatstroke from a truck that came to rescue him. They knew he was sick, laying against a tree for shade. They were watching over him and petting him, and they threatened to charge the vehicle for coming towards him. Another person passed out, and elephants cried over her and buried her body in a traditional elephant funeral. (Piling branches on her). And were quite spooked when she got up later. And an elephant was helping workers to put logs in holes for a wall. On one hole, the elephant absolutely refused to set the log in, despite being punished and goaded. Turns out there was a sleeping dog in the hole.
There are so many good elephants stories. They will even help zookeepers wash other elephants– literally, a zookeeper can be like “[Name 1], please wash [Name 2]” and he will go wash that elephant correctly. Listen guys. Not only are elephants people, but they’re largely better people than us. I’m 10000% serious.
when humans go extinct i’m pretty sure elephants will be able to restore our planet’s reputation
is no one else made at all suspicious by the fact that the op says “Tinged by Sloof Lirpa”
Just Finished Drawing this.Hope you guys like it!

I fucking hate it when you’re in such a fantastically giddy mood and then you see one simple little thing that makes you think, “oh” and then you just get this empty feeling in your chest and you get nauseous and the world just crumbles and you want to just lay under a blanket and close your eyes and fall asleep and never wake up.
From what my therapist told me, this happens because our emotions aren’t really on the ‘opposite’ ends like we tend to think of it. Happiness is not ‘up’ and sadness is not ‘down’-. In a way they’re actually right ‘next’ to each other.
If you’re super happy, it can turn into super sad very easily, because your emotions are already highly elevated and it’s only a very minor shift as far as your brain is concerned.
Knowing this can help you fight it, and it can help you be more aware of what’s going on while you’re happy and help avoid shifting towards misery.
I used to always wonder why it seemed like my happy days ‘couldn’t last’ or that bad things would ‘always’ happen when I was happy. It’s not that happiness is doomed to fail, it’s that emotions are volatile. I hope that helps people who experience this too- when you understand what’s going on more it’s easier to manage.
Mansplaining protip:
When a man starts explaining a concept you already told him you understand, instead of saying “I know” over and over until you die, try one of these:
- Ok, which aspect is confusing you?
- It seems like you have the basics down; Would you like me to recommend some good articles so you can get a more nuanced understanding?
- So did you have a specific question, or do you just want a more in depth explanation?
SAVAGE
teacher-zone him
My cousin is an asst psych professor. Her new boss brought up how male students sometimes challenge female professors. He asked how she handles that: she says ‘hold on: let me take notes’, grabs a pen & paper, and proceeds to take no notes. If he asks why, she says ‘Tell me something I don’t know & I’ll have something to write’; no student has tried twice. Her boss laughed and asked her to mention it at the next staff meeting.
Additional tip:
If you need to bring up a topic you think he’ll argue against, ask him if he knows what it is, nod along as he tells you, and then build on the argument he’s just made for you by laying the base.
aka, I had a mansplaining coworker who used to trigger the shit out of my PTSD, so one day I asked him if he knew what “trigger” meant as a psychological term. He proceeded to explain my own panic attacks to me and ended up having a facial Oh Shit when I responded with “Yes, that’s exactly what happens to me when you do X, I’m glad you understand.”
It’s very hard to claim ignorance of the subject when you’ve just been so very proud of showing off your knowledge of that subject.
I’m just gonna leave this here for anyone who needs it C:
