ocd is not fucking destigmatized

"intrusive thought" gets thrown around by assholes talking about putting strainers on their heads or stepping on a leaf who in the next sentence will say "if your thoughts are about actually hurting people they should put you in a psych ward". compulsions and rituals get seen as proof you're "crazy". ocd insight CAN be delusional, even. pocd and sexual ocd is especially demonized, though even something as "harmless" (to others. not *us*) as contamination OCD is still mocked, belittled, and seen as a sign something is fundamentally wrong with you. I have seen people twice my age advocate for violence against anyone who thinks the way I've been forced by my mental illness to think since i was 6, maybe 7 years old.

OCD is not destigmatized.

using tumblr mobile and seeing people talk about a desktop layout change is like hearing a timer suddenly start ticking down. I am safe for now but I hear the danger

"YA books are brain rotting at any age" okay I know booktok is annoying but please get offline

For real though I may make jokes but YA is great and an absolutely valuable resource for tweens/teens and isn't completely represented by the love triangle romances it's become associated with (which tbh who cares if it does have that). YA includes Holes by Louis Sachar, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. And y'know I grew up reading a bunch of Sarah Dessen books, the Flowers in the Attic series, Thirteen Reasons Why, Twilight, Maximum Ride, etc etc and even though I probably wouldn't recommend those books now, they nurtured a love of reading that followed me afterwards!!! I'm grateful that people eventually realized that there is a tumultuous period between childhood and adulthood and gave that period of life a space in literature

me: watching a video about vita carnis

an amber alert, choosing Right This Moment to go off:

I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.

‘I don’t understand this’ They’ll explain it if you wait.

‘I don’t like how this episode left things hanging’ There’s a continuation next week.

‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.

So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT

hey @staff this is a bad look lmao

guys why do you think we come to tumblr for...... the twitter experience??

but wait! it gets worse!

[text transcript: why is the activity pane blocking the dashboard. it didn't do that before]

[text transcript: oh good i'll just open a chatbox and have it appear (insert big long arrow across the screen) way over here. this is so seamless compared to when these features were closer. so not jarring at all /s]

@staff why do you not listen to real feedback from the userbase and instead copy twitter's homework and doing it incredibly awfully even

this is happening at my college right now. i’m in my third year here and everyone i know is like, haha, im in danger.

one of my professors earlier today had the perfect word to describe the feeling of it: traumatizing

what they’re doing seems almost illegal, like.. considering desantis brought in the majority of the trustees in one sweep, we didnt even have a chance to dissent their new supermajority firing president okker with no cause. or if it isn’t, it should be illegal, there’s literally no checks and balances happening here. no democracy involved. genuine fascism at work, it’s actually absurd. extremely fucking filthy and despicable political ploy.

yesterday wrt the board of trustees meeting, a student commented, “The fact they are playing [the college president] like she's a game and she is sitting at that table CRYING is something that shakes me.”

this is who they replaced our president with

they don’t care about education or the students at all. they don’t care. we’re chess pieces to them.

please help us defend ourselves, not just for NCF but for educational freedom in academic institutions in general. donate, spread the word, etc. here’s the site

this son of a bitch is definitely going to run for president in 2024. pay attention to what’s happening on the ground here. it’s very bleak.

a lot has happened but this is really peak shit. they fucking hate us and want to inconvenience us as much as possible

here’s a pdf of the article. i’m a senior btw. i don’t know what to do

New College of Florida is shifting returning students into housing in buildings with mold problems identified by an outside consultant to make way for student-athletes and other incoming freshmen who are part of a conservative transformation of the school launched by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Weeks before the start of the fall semester, the college emailed returning students Tuesday to tell them their housing assignments had been changed at the last minute to accommodate an influx of student- athletes and freshmen. The new cohort would live in the apartment-style Dort and Goldstein buildings — which have historically housed upperclassmen — while returning students would be moved to other, shared-space dorms, such as the older I. M. Pei designed buildings.
Pei dorms, however, were considered virtually uninhabitable due to mold as of early this summer. Although New College housed students in the Pei dorms last semester, a May report commissioned by the school and obtained by the Herald-Tribune concluded that the Pei dorms "should not be occupied in their current condition" due to a systematic mold issue that would require a fiscal investment to repair.
Mold can cause symptoms such as stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing or wheezing, burning eyes, or skin rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People with asthma or who are allergic to mold could have more severe reactions, and immunocompromised people could get lung infections from mold.
The college's email to students mentioned ongoing renovations, but it was unclear if those included repairing mold damage and the underlying building issues causing mold.
Students had until July 14 to cancel their housing agreements with no penalty, a deadline only three days after the email was sent.
For many upperclassmen working on thesis projects, living in an apartment-style dorm is preferable because of the private living and study spaces each student receives.
The idea of living in shared-space Pei dorms again has prompted some students to consider off- campus living options, or even transferring to another college. For many, living off-campus is financially impossible because of the cost of rent in the Sarasota-Manatee area.
On-campus housing costs between $3,000 and $5,000 per semester, a student housing employee told the Herald-Tribune. The estimated median monthly rent in Sarasota for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,500, and since March 2020, rents have increased by 43.5% in the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metro area, the sixth-largest increase in the country, according to apartmentlist.com data.
Zoe Fountain, a 20-year-old psychology and gender studies student involved in student government, said giving student-athletes the nicer apartment-style dorms is indicative of the school's new DeSantis- appointed leadership trying to shape a new student body while neglecting the needs of current students.
Earlier in the year, the college fired an LGBTQ librarian and denied tenure to five faculty members. "To all of us (students), that just sounds like they're trying to drive us out," she said.
In addition to being given priority in housing assignments, student-athletes have been given preferential treatment in admissions and promised $1,400 laptops if they enrolled, a New College admissions official told the Herald-Tribune.
As the college seeks rapid renovations of different residential buildings, the treatment of the current student body is "dehumanizing," Fountain said. Current summer residents have dealt with construction crews and dust. “We are being treated as inconveniences that they need to move around," she said.
Fountain said that the housing situation, coupled with other actions by the administration, have alienated her from New College. She said she plans to take a gap semester this fall to find another college destination.
"The rug is being pulled out from under you, and all of us are just very desperately wanting to go back to the way things are and realizing that that's not possible for us anymore," Fountain said.
Megan Nigro, a 19-year-old zoology fourth-year student, was set to live in the Dort building with three other students this fall. Now, she's likely going to live in Pei dorms, where she lived last year. One of the biggest draws for the Dort and Goldstein dorms is the kitchens in each unit, something Nigro said she was excited to use because of the limited food options on campus. She said she's exploring off-campus living options. However, Nigro said she pays for housing through scholarships at the school, so being able to afford an apartment off-campus would be difficult.
Some students won't be given an on-campus housing opportunity at all. Andy Trinh, a 20-year-old computer science third-year, said they were supposed to live in the Palmer B dorm, but they received an email saying the dorm had been taken offline. Corcoran had previously received approval from the Board of Trustees to begin the process of demolishing the building, despite not having obtained permits to do so.
In the meeting, Corcoran said displaced students could be moved to a nearby hotel or to USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus.
"I don't have a car. I don't know how to get to campus from there unless I take the bus, but it's not something I can do for like every single meal," Trinh said. "It's not completely feasible unless they have like a shuttle or something running."

Ronny D posting MPREG fics on main.

look, not to be a downer, but... why are we making omegaverse jokes about this.

this article is about how Ron DeSantis is leveraging people's hatred for trans men to fundraise for his presidential campaign:

DeSantis has leaned heavily into the culture war issues — which have become central to his campaign — such as the repeated emails mocking the idea of men getting pregnant. Some transgender men do become pregnant. DeSantis also sent more emails mentioning “woke” than any other candidate.

I know people love "haha omegaverse" jokes but. I REALLY need people to realize that its a microagression against trans men. Pregnant men can face extreme amounts of transphobia, and are in a highly vulnerable situation, and they are being used as a symbol of wokeness by Florida's fascist wannabe. And it makes me upset to see other trans people seeming to not take this seriously.

Like. ask yourselves why "pregnant men" immediately conjures jokes and absurdity to you, instead of real people that exist and who Ron DeSantis hates? When you see "pregnant man" and your first thoughts are omegaverse porn and "cis men getting pregnant," you are also mocking the idea of men getting pregnant. And you do so while erasing trans men from the conversation. You make male pregnancy into an absurdist joke about cis men instead of a reality for trans men.

There doesn't seem to be a single person in the notes of this post who has mentioned trans men. Its just jokes about heat suppressants. People acted shocked and bewildered by the idea of a pregnant man. On "the trans website." That fucking hurts.

A pregnant trans man was very recently on the cover of a magazine & received a ton of backlash. Pregnant men are accused of child abuse & child molestation for simply being a trans father, and I've seen many people specifically say that trans fathers who have been/are on T will "poison" their children. Ignorance about men being pregnant can have real fatal consequences. Transphobia make it a traumatizing process. Pregnant trans men face workplace discrimination. Trans men who are pregnant are in heavy contact with the transphobic medical system which leaves them extremely vulnerable to abuse. This doesn't even get into trans men and abortion access. There are already people who think pregnant trans men need to have their children taken away. Ron DeSantis is using them specifically to foster hatred and get money. This is serious.

I cannot feel safe around people for whom "pregnant man" is nothing but an absurdist punchline. It hurts to see other trans people erasing transmascs from the discussion, especially when this article is SPECIFICALLY about how DeSantis is emailing people to say "hey, don't you think pregnant "men" are delusional and a threat to American society? Me too! Give me money so I can terrorize them via the government!" This is not the first time I've seen people do this with pregnant men (immediately jumping to "haha pregnant cis men!! omegaverse!!" jokes without even mentioning trans men at all. Even though we are men that can and do get pregnant. In real life. And are abused for it) but its the first time I've seen it done in response to a very clear act of targeted anti-transmasculinity, and this. Hurts.

I don't know how y'all think you can combat transphobia if you can't take seriously the issue of male pregnancy. Because transphobes are clearly very interesting in using pregnant men as a weapon, and I would hope y'all would step up for them. We have to acknowledge that the "haha thats so weird and absurd and gross!!!" response to male pregnancy is transphobic and it hurts trans men a lot.

You know what? Yeah. These are excellent points, and I am sorry and feel genuinely bad about this.

I think being surrounded by transphobia so constantly has sort of caused my brain to need even just a second of relief by mocking the people who have been leading the large scale societal violence against us, but this wasn't what I should have done. I thought it was direced at my oppressor, but in my clouded judgement I accidentally hurt my brothers.

I shouldn't have - as a trans woman - stepped out of my lane to make this kind of joke without considering the impact on trans men or trans masc people. It was a cheap joke that engaged in transandrophobia.

I understood DeSantis was talking about trans men, but I went for the 1 second of relief and ended up throwing trans masc people, people I deeply care about as a part of my community, under the bus in my carelessness. I'm sorry.

Also thank you @genderkoolaid I know I'm not directly reblogging you, I'm including both replies because those both illustrate really well what happened.

Thank you ♥️ I really appreciate your apology.

This is a fucking great apology and ownership of a fuckup, and I really appreciate it a lot. Since I reblogged the previous post with @genderkoolaid talking about why it wasn't cool, I want to make sure that I reblog OP's response.

Ian Stone, Doubting Thomas, oil on linen, 12x16 in, 2023

"If you know the painting by Caravaggio, Doubting Thomas, it was my direct inspiration for this piece.

A doubting Thomas is a skeptic who refuses to believe without direct personal experience. 50-60 years ago, it was not uncommon for people to think or believe that being gay was a phase or a mental illness or deviance in some shape or form. It's embarrassing that the same things are being said about trans people today."

STOP SCROLLING!!! THIS IS NOT A PHOTO IT'S OIL ON LINEN!!!!!!!!!

damn got too into the knitting and forgot both lunch and my amoxicillin

good news! i did not, in fact, miss my amoxicillin. i am glad i fucked up my time because i was actually supposed to take it at the time i remembered about it. i don't know why i thought i was supposed to take it at 2.

adding to the rose autism agende:

-knitting, i've discovered, is just a lot of repetition. it fucks hard.

-thats it

i think kids online should really get back to making internetsonas instead of whatever fuckshit this is with putting their entire real faces, names, ages, and such everywhere. you're not gonna realize how nice internet privacy is until you dont have it anymore and no chance at getting it back. make up a guy and a name and just be that online. make up conflicting details about your completely made up backstory. make a fursona or something

Listen When I was a scared little babygay not even willing to think the word "gay" to myself, I stayed alive because Sailor Uranus would be very disappointed in me if I didn't, and that was enough for twelve-year-old me to hold on. One of the most emotional experiences of my life was meeting her (new) VA and being like "I can't thank her, because she's not real, but she kept me alive until I could keep myself alive, and can I hug you?"

Yes, it works. Yes, it matters. And yes, it's entirely fine to take your meds everyday because the Horde wouldn't want you to take your meds and fuck those guys.

If it keeps you going, go on keeping it.

Here fucking here.

I was lucky I grew up in a family that believed mental health struggles are real and that geting therapy and meds isn't something to be ashamed of.

I still managed to pick up a lot of shame.

You know only reason I managed to find the courage to take my antidepressants when I first was started on them? "Space-Mom would want me to take my meds. Where ever she is the woman who breathed life Princess Lea would want me to take my meds, " RIP Carrie Fisher.

At your lowest points what ever keeps you from giving up in despair is fair game.

I care more about being spoiled about what Chocolate Guy is making at the start of his tiktok videos than I do about Marvel movies. Don't post "chocolate guy makes a ____" in the description, I want to see him pour chocolate into an egg mold and then 2 minutes later be like "oohh shit " when I realize that it's actually a life size chocolate model of himself making a life size chocolate model of himself making a solid chocolate model of himself making a

Have to say, House MD is the only show that really does live up to the hype on tumblr.

Dr Medical Malpractice really does walk around committing the most insane crimes on the daily.

The show oscillates between radically protective of vulnerable people, and the most mean spirited takes possible in the name of edginess.

House and Wilson really do have the wildest little fucked up relationship you’ve ever seen.

It’s like the opposite of the Yo, Mr White meme, where’s every joke post is just a canonical scene from this damn show.
