When you walked into the cafe, you had to resist the strong urge to wipe the smirk on Sunghoon’s face from where he was at a table. You sat across from the boy with a huff, setting your bag down beside you. 

“You’re late,” Sunghoon remarked, looking even more satisfied when you began to fum. “By three minutes.”

“Okay, and?” you shot back, crossing your arms pointedly. “Let’s just get this over with already.”

Sunghoon smiled in amusement, watching as you took out your test for mathematics. It was your worst subject, and your test score in the class was what made you second to Sunghoon yet again.

“I just don’t understand how I got this wrong,” you sighed, pointing to one of the problems on your paper. “Didn’t I solve it in the right way?” 

Sunghoon shook his head, taking a closer look at the work on your paper. “No, you’re supposed to work it like this.” He took his pencil and started to mark up your test. “You used the wrong method to solve it.”

“What? That can’t be right,” you said exasperatedly, looking over Sunghoon’s work. “That’s not how I remember it’s supposed to be solved. Why should I even trust you, anyway?”

You had a sneaking suspicion Sunghoon could sense how stressed you were becoming as he slid his hand over yours in one gentle motion. “Just listen to me, Y/n. It’ll make sense if you give me- if you give us a chance.” He locked eyes with you, and you could sense that his words had another meaning behind them. You hated the fact that your heart was beginning to race faster as he continued to gaze at you.

Since when were his eyes so…pretty? You thought to yourself, knowing that you were taking much too long to respond to him at this point. He was basically confessing, and you couldn’t just leave him hanging. 

“I hate you,” you blurted out, seeing Sunghoon’s eyes flash with surprise. “I hate the fact that you make me want to date you and do all those cute little things that couples do. But maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I set all that aside from now on.” You were smiling now, meeting eyes with a very confused looking Sunghoon across from you. 

“So then..” Sunghoon started, blinking back at you. “Does that mean you’re my girlfriend now?”

You couldn’t help but laugh at this new oblivious side of Sunghoon you hadn’t known existed until now. “Yes, it does. But you can’t go easy on me during exam season just because of that,” you told him with a wink. 

Sunghoon shook his head, intertwining his hand with yours again. “It took a few years for us to get past our little rivalry, huh?” 

“Yeah, but you’ve motivated me to try hard every single day,” you admitted. “And I wouldn’t have traded any of that time I spent with you for the world.”
