did she lie? no
This is such a millennial/gen x mood holy fuck
gen z decided a LOT of things were fine and as a younger millennial in a relationship with an older gen z, i still get whiplash sometimes. i still curl in on myself when someone asks me about, like, what anime I’m watching or whatever. when i was in high school, admitting to liking anime was a social death sentence. now, my partner’s friends have a discord with an entire anime channel. they don’t consume it ironically. it’s also cool somehow to just Unapologetically Like Things. i really dig it, but still have to prevent myself from kneejerk justifying why i like things.
Strange New World.
Seriously, like the person above I remember when only the “nerds” / “goths” / “outliers” would ever admit to liking anime back in high school in the mid-2000s. Hell, I never discussed anime or fanfiction to any of my friends, because even then I worried they’d think I was weird - and we WERE the weird clique that didn’t quite fit in with anyone else.
Then fast forward, and my coworker in the cubicle next to mine have shared many in-depth convos regarding the Netflix adaptions of “Death Note” and “Cowboy Bebop” and “Bleach” and similar topics like it was nbd.
I’m still in that mindset a bit, as in I’ll only bring up my nerdier interests around someone if I already know they’re into that as well. That being said, nobody I know IRL knows I write fanfiction. That’s just for me, and at some point I wouldn’t mind revealing that aspect of myself. But still, it feels weird to even imagine bringing that up in casual conversations.
Plus there’s the fact that I write a LOT of smut, but that’s a whole other story…
