ppl who oppose gender affirming care for kids are nuts like the extent of medical intervention for trans kids is maybe puberty blockers but they’ll still be like “SO UR SAYING WE SHOULD LET TODDLERS HAVE TOP SURGERY???????” barbara toddlers do not have a top to surgery
Saw someone asking "so do you endorse giving puberty blockers to five year olds?"
Friend, a five year old should not have puberty to block. If they do that's called precocious puberty and is the original reason puberty blockers were invented. If a five year old is going through puberty I absolutely endorse them being given puberty blockers

eugenics is a big scary word and yet people that would claim to be left-leaning can very easily be convinced to be pro-eugenics if you just never use the word. like oh you think "dumb people" shouldnt be allowed to reproduce? you think "dumb people" shouldnt be allowed to have children? its kinda scary
Obviously, eugenics is bad. I shouldn’t have to say that. The original poster is completely correct, but some of these comments and rbs are getting waaaay too anti abortion for my taste.
People should be able to get an abortion because they found out the fetus has a serious genetic condition. It’s not ableist to not want to bring a kid into the world to suffer constant pain or premature death. A fetus is not the same as a living child and quite a few shitheads need to lay off the false equivalence between abortion and euthanizing disabled kids.
For example:
To be clear, I am disabled. I was a disabled baby and kid and teenager, and I’m saying all of this as a disabled adult looking back on that experience.
A lot of people in my family are carriers for Tay-Sachs. They have genetic testing now for Ashkenazi Jewish couples, to check if their children will be at risk for some serious genetic diseases that are more common in Ashkenazi people, including Tay-Sachs. Before they invented the tests, a few women in my family had babies with Tay-Sachs. It’s a horrific disease. The babies seem ok until around 6 months. Then they start losing all the abilities they learned - rolling over, crawling, holding a spoon. Eventually they become blind and deaf, lose the ability to swallow or move, and die before they turn 5. There’s no cure and no treatment beyond palliative measures. Losing a child like that destroyed my great grandma. Thank fuck we have genetic testing and safe abortion now (only in some states, thanks to the fascists on the supreme court), to prevent kids from being born with this or similar conditions.
Also, I strongly believe in a person’s right to have an abortion because the fetus they’re carrying has a non life-threatening condition, in the exact same way I think a person has the right to terminate a pregnancy if they just don’t want to have a baby. As a disabled person, and as someone who’s been a full-time caregiver for disabled children, I would 100% rather a disabled fetus be aborted than a disabled child grow up with parents who aren’t prepared for the responsibility of caring for them. Ideally, every parent would be ready to love and take care of their disabled child, and they would receive all the resources they needed to do so, but that’s just not the current reality in any part of the world. If a parent knows that their child will be born with a serious disability, they should be able to choose whether they want to continue the pregnancy. All children do better when they are wanted and everyone suffers when a parent is coerced into having a child they don’t want, for whatever reason.
