I choose a birthday icon every year. Since I’m 29 today I selected Cassandra Peterson. A couple years ago I listen to her on a podcast saying she didn’t get @therealelvira gig until she was 30. At 29 she really started getting specific about what she wanted. This was after decades of hard work. She also refused to leave her honeymoon for the audition. Women are told that 30 is the end, that you’re old. But it’s not. Started #d17 by lighting candles and reflecting on privilege. I’ve often been able to say no. I’ve been able to give bad reviews for shitty men with the caveat ‘if you need the money take these precautions, I won’t judge you’. I’ve been able to lay down boundaries and have grooming clients pass me by. I’ve still been assaulted but I’ve never been killed. SWRights intersect with all other marginalized identities. It’s an added danger to people already at risk. Last year I prayed the list of names would be shorter but thanks to certain bills it’s much longer. That’s the deaths we know of. Me and my boyfriend broke up last week and I am still really sad about it. It was for the best and whatever but the changes to my relationship with our girlfriend are starting to set in for me so I’m getting this wave of anger and resentment at the situation and at the things he did (didn’t do is more accurate) when we were dating and I have been depressed for the last three days. I would like to stop being depressed over this. Plus side, i get to see our girlfriend tonight while we go out of town for work and then tomorrow when we go to work. So at least there’s that.
