“Be gay do crime!!” “Eat the rich!!”
And you can’t even boycott the most famous TERF in the UK
I'm kinda shy but if youre persistent in getting to know me for 5-6 years I can be a good addition to your household
Considering the way every single new piece of diverse media created by a marginalized person immediately gets ripped to shreds for not singlehandedly solving all bigotry forever, I'm beginning to think y'all don't actually think representation matters.
It's all "we want rep!" until you get the rep, and then it's Discourse City. And you fucking wonder why artists are tired and bitter and pissy and don't want to create art anymore.
"We want diverse media!" No the fuck you don't, you just want to chew up another vulnerable artist and hold them up to impossible standards so you can pat yourself on the back and pretend you've accomplished something.
The series is based on Kline’s childhood summers with her extended multicultural Mexican American family—her dad’s family is from Tennessee, and her mom is first generation, born in Los Angeles and her grandma is from Mexico City. She was inspired to work in entertainment after not seeing her family culture reflected on television.
Oh wow weird how this is totally based on her lived experiences lol
all of my ocs are inherently neurodivergent in someway because i dont know how neurotypical people work
three and a half years ago my sweet darling Percy boy passed away and this year I finally got him immortalized on my body forever so he’ll always be with me <3 the artist who did this for me is nessaaa_ !!
the funniest thing ever just happened to me
im changing my name purely bc i don’t like it and we just told my family like a month ago. i haven’t been home since then but today i got back and my (extremely country) uncle gives me a pat on the back and goes “so i hear you’re my nephew now. proud of you, son” and i have to very gently say i am so so happy to hear that but i am still his niece just with a cooler name. and he throws his hat down on the table and goes “no! but ive been practicing!” so now he is calling me his nephew for fun
Remembering the time my old nb roommate who went to an LGBT law conference and was heaping the absolute biggest bitchfit texting me cause “some cis guy” was talking about trans people and trans men in particular and my roommate refused to listen to what this guy said cause “why should I listen to him” and I said “are you sure he’s cis?” And then towards the end of the presentation he said something that indicated to the crowd he was a trans man and then suddenly my roommate started to consider what had been shared.
Absolute loser behavior, but not completely unique. We’ve all gotta stop saying only x people can talk about x issues for us to listen. Too many people in the in group will have dogshit takes no one wants to challenge because “well, they are x identity.” Likewise, plenty of people on the out group actually know what they’re talking about and have something to contribute to the conversation.
Especially when it comes to sexuality and gender, you relying on someone outing themselves or you clocking them to decide whether their words have merit is shitty, because you won’t always know if they ARE the group “allowed” to talk about it. And even beyond that, I knew a fuckload about transness before I realized I was trans, it helped me REALIZE I was trans. “Listen to x voices” got sooooo warped in the discourse.
No offense but the internet gives you the most wrong and fucked up idea of helping people because people get mad if you don't care about disasters happening in 72 countries, meanwhile the people in real life that are doing the most good picked one VERY SPECIFIC thing to care about and care about it REALLY HARD
Walks up to a guy working on restoring a native tree species to his downtown "why aren't you posting about grasses in Turkmenistan!"
The internet has taken a whole generation of bright, motivated, passionate young people who care and have big hearts and turned them into paralyzed, shattered wrecks too crushed by the weight of the world's pain to hand a pair of socks to a person in need

Which is why it’s important to not be mean.
Their cult teaches them that the world is full of scary monster people who hate them for being so good and loved by god. If you swear at them and call them names or get in their face you’re just doing the cults work for it.
I’m not saying you have to listen to their presentation or try to debate them (and really getting into a debate without thoroughly understanding what they’re being taught will just make things worse)… I am just saying to be polite and say no thank you like if they were trying to hand you a flyer for something you don’t care about.
It’s easier for them to see the world outside their bubble as less scary if they see everyday people just going about their business and being as nice to them as you are to everyone else. This goes doubly for anyone who happens to dress modestly, not swear, and not drink or smoke because whatever you believe, they’ll see you as a “good” person who happens to strangely have no interest in their “message”, and that might be enough to get some curious about the possibility of themselves living in the real world.
It’s sometimes hard to be nice to people who seem to represent something you dislike. Just remember these “elders” are sheltered young men, some of which are getting their first real contact with people of other/no faiths.
They are not your enemy. They are victims.
So I’m from a country family. Part of what I was taught as a kid was guests, no matter if you wanted them are not, are treated to a drink and hospitality. So a few years ago a few of these guys came to my door. It was a really hot day out, like high 90’s. So I invited them in for a drink but I made it very clear, I will listen to their basic conversation while they have a drink but I absolutely have no intention of converting or changing my religion. We had a pleasant conversation for about twenty minutes, then they went on their way without leaving any pamphlets or anything and I figured that was the end of it.
About six months later, I had a new group come to my door. I invited them in for a drink and the two immediately jumped back and went to check my address. They then told me they were told about me in their missionary prep class (because they do that). That I was the only actual ‘good person’ on the route because I didn’t actually yell at them, slam doors in their face, or treat them how they were taught the world was. So we once again had a conversation over tea about how sometimes people just don’t appreciate it when someone shows up to their door trying to push a religion on them. I asked them how they would feel if someone who was Heathenistic appearing on their doorstep telling them how acknowledging Odin as the high god is the only way to save them. They admitted they would be really upset and uncomfortable about that.
Long story short after about two more times of this happening I later learned I was removed from the houses the missionaries were allowed to visit. Apparently I was causing a lot of the young missionaries to question what they were taught and was deemed a concern by the elders of their church because many were asking questions after visiting me. All it took was an offer of a drink and a few kind but intellectual questions to make them ask questions and actually listen to what I was saying.
I guess my overall point is, like the above says you are going to get a lot farther by being kind then being an asshole
I love it when my creativity spurs other creativity. literally no better feeling as an artist than when someone looks at something you’ve made and goes “I saw this and liked it so much I could do nothing more with myself than turn it into drive for my own creativity” like that’s really what creativity is huh!! an instrument to further human expression and community and connection
daddydom ASMR but 5 seconds in he gets attacked by a cackling witch
the bane of my sewing existence is when I want to make something that requires lots of different colours and each colour I only need maybe two feet of, tops, but the only sizes places sell them are by the meter which means I’ll have to buy a $15 meter of fabric 6 different times only to use the tiniest scraps of them -_- unrelated if anybody knows a good place to buy fleece scraps where you can actually choose which colours you want and not just be a mystery bundle please let me know
HONESTLY also like. part of combatting misinformation is just accepting that you'll fall victim to it sometimes. no-one can be an expert on every imaginable subject and most people don't have the time to factcheck every single piece of information that comes their way. the key thing IMO is responding appropriately when someone points misinfo ie not doubling down and being like 'no there's no way I could be wrong about this'.
like a big part of studying history is learning that your previously held beliefs are hotly debated or even outright wrong and sometimes it feels bad bcos you realise you bought into what was, with the benefit of hindsight, an obvious lie.
and other times it feels bad bcos it's actively disappointing!! often the lie feels better than the truth! historical myths get popular bcos they are, typically, better, punchier stories than what actually happened.
