A Note on #MappaWhereisYOI
I have seen some tags being surprised (not in a negative way!) that we are being so direct. I know that Ice Adolescence and Mappa are tough topics for the fandom. When the lack of news or any new content is brought up, the fandom tends to divide pretty quickly. Some are upset with Mappa, others say to be patient. Some have given up.
I think it is very important to find a message that we can all stand behind, which is why I wrote our new mission statement.
I've spoken with fans in person and online. I've combed through tweets. I've seen responses to this hashtag. I took it all in and tried to think of a way that we could come together to make a difference.
It has been over 6 years since the announcement, 4 since the trailer was shown in Japan, and almost 3 since it was put online. There has been almost no new content outside of pre-contracted collaborations like Sanrio and Mizuno. Yuri!!! on Ice is no longer found in merchandising or advertising spaces. Even without any of the rumors or potential leaks, even considering the known external factors said to have impacted the release, it is clear that something is up.
Instead of being outwardly angry at Mappa (and Avex) or completely silent, I want to try the approach of love and support. I want to send a message to Mappa, Avex and anyone else it might concern: there is still a market for Yuri!!! on Ice. People still love and care about the franchise. It is worth continuing. I want to prove our love and support with this hashtag and petition.
You might be thinking, "that'll never work", but I say to you this: If don't try, you'll never know. I am not ready to give up on Yuri!!! on Ice. I hope that you aren't, either.
These two were supposedly based on a real couple, who said they wouldn’t board a life boat as long as there were younger people still aboard the ship. They both went below deck, presumably to their room, and that’s the last time they were seen.

Isador & Ida Straus
The couple had been married for 41 years at the time of the disaster. They raised six children together, and were almost inseparable. On the rare occasion that they were apart, they wrote each other every day. They even celebrated their birthdays on the same day, although they were well apart from one another. During the sinking, Titanic’s officers pleaded with the 63 year old Ida to board a lifeboat and escape the disaster, but she repeatedly refused to leave her husband. Instead, she placed her maid in a lifeboat, taking her fur coat off and handing it to the maid while saying, “I won’t need this anymore”. At one point, she was convinced to enter one of the last two lifeboats, but jumped out as her husband walked away to rejoin him.
When last seen by witnesses, they were standing on deck, holding each other in a tight embrace. Their funeral drew some 6,000 mourners at Carnegie Hall.
A monument to them still stands in a Bronx cemetery, it’s inscription reads: “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”
why wasn’t the movie about them
why wasn’t the movie about them
Another few bits of trivia:
Both were Jewish, and Isidor was one of the co-owners of Macy’s.
The maid, Ellen Bird, went to their family to return the fur coat, specifically to their eldest daughter, Sara Straus Hess. She was gently refused, with Sara telling Ellen that Ida had given her the coat and she should keep it.
When her husband urged her to get into a boat, Ida told him “We have lived together for many years. Where you go, I go.”Her words were witnessed by those already in Lifeboat No. 8 as well as many others who were on the boat deck at the time. Eyewitnesses described the scene as a “most remarkable exhibition of love and devotion.”
Long story short, there should absolutely be a movie about them.
In response to Slate's article on the possibility having non-heteromative team in figure skating (particularly, ice dance and pairs), Oniceperspective shared a glimpse of Gabriella Papadakis (FRA) and Madison Hubbell (USA) working on their same-sex program. You can see how they switch the leading figure between them.
You can see them trying out lifts in this video.

I feel this!!! Also love how you muted the color along the way, I think it makes it that much more impactful!
This is the thing!
Well shit, Henry Jenkins, out here in 1997 dropping truth bombs
Oh hey I need this for a research paper I'm writing, thank you!
i mean he had been out here since 1988 dropping such bombs:
"'fandom' is a vehicle of marginalized subcultural groups (women, the young, gays, etc.) to pry open space for their cultural concerns within dominant representations; it is a way of appropriating media texts and rereading them in a way that serves different interests, a way of transforming mass culture into a popular culture"
Jenkins, Henry. “Star Trek Rerun, Reread, Rewritten: Fan Writing as Textual Poaching.” Critical Studies in Mass Communication 5, no. 2 (1988): 85–107. https://doi.org/10.1080/15295038809366691.
there are even some earlier works in fan studies but that’s what i have ready to hand.
