Venerable Marthe Robin 1902-1981

Martha Robin was a French mystic, victim soul, and stigmatist. She was an ordinary farm girl until 1918 when she suffered from lethargic encephalitis that left her a quadriplegic. From 1930 onwards, unable to eat or drink, her only food was the Eucharist for 50 years. In 1930 she also received the stigmata and relived Christ’s Passion every week. In 1940 she was asked to also make the sacrifice of her eyesight in expiation for the sins of the world. She had visions of the Virgin Mary and Our Lord for sixty years. More than 100,000 people consulted her for spiritual advice and she brought about many conversions.

Masterpost - Resources for those interested in the Catholic faith

I’ve received a few asks about those who are seeking to learn more about Catholicism. There’s an abundance of information out there so I would urge you to PRAY and ask God to direct you to the books or people which will help you most. Every person’s journey is different!

BOOKS:

Here are some great lists of books from Catholic converts, some of them overlap in their recommendations yet each of them offer different suggestions depending on the topic:

Two New Books:

Forty Reasons I Am a Catholic - Peter Kreeft (also check out his website, or his many writings and videos online)

List from Blessed is She:

Rome Sweet Home - Scott  & Kimberly Hahn (website)

This quintessential conversion story has remained one of the most popular books about conversion for over 25 years with converts and lapsed Catholics alike. As a Presbyterian minister and biblical scholar Scott Hahn assumed the Catholic Church was incorrect about everything, until he begins to see that the Church has the answers to all his questions. The book also shares the difficulty Kimberley had with Scott’s conversion, how she grappled with his coming to the Church and her own acceptance of Church teaching.

This handbook of common misconceptions regarding Catholicism gives clear answers of what the Church actually teaches to be a true. A great starting out point for someone who has basic questions about the faith, or for someone who wants to know the whys behind Church teaching at a quick search.

A selection of essays that lay the foundation not just for Catholicism, but for the need of faith and religion and how religion works. A clear framework answering questions about the need for faith in your life, or to answer questions other’s may be tossing your way. Dr. Kreeft’s work is always aimed at helping readers understand the faith more clearly and deeply.

A fascinating look at the Scriptural and Jewish roots and meaning of the Eucharist. As the Eucharist is one of the most important teachings of the Catholic faith, this book helps flesh out the importance of Christ’s words and actions at the Last Supper. Seeing the continuation in tradition and teaching from the Old Testament to the Church today makes for a great introduction to the faith and for deepening your understanding of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Most Catholics know Bishop Barron, but he’s also making great inroads with people who have no belief by talking about today’s culture from a Catholic perspective. In his book Catholicism, Bishop Barron synthesizes the beauty and teachings of the faith so that someone who has no idea what the Church is about can gain a clear understanding of the Faith. This book is a great reference for the history of the Church, and also discusses the lives of famous saints.

Introduction to Christianity by Pope Benedict XVI

A deep dive into the Apostle’s Creed and what Christianity is by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, this book provides a beautiful, intellectual basis of what Christianity believes. Pope Emeritus Benedict’s insight and genius in his understanding of theology and Scripture is a gift not just to the Church but to Christianity as a whole. Diving into any of his books will provide the reader with new ways of seeing faith, Scripture, and the Church.

Perhaps the best written and most readable memoir of faith and conversion written in recent memory, Fulwiler does a phenomenal job of detailing what led her to seek truth after growing up an atheist. Her humour and candor make her conversion process imminently relatable and her intellectual honesty is sure to touch a reader of any faith or non-faith background.

Where does the Catholic Church get the authority to teach her doctrines anyway? Mark Shea shares his personal conversion story as he investigates Sola Scriptura and how biblical authority is the source of the Church’s magisterial teaching and tradition. A book with wit and an easy to read style that answers and appeals to Evangelicals and their questions about Catholicism.

A great book for those with questions on Mary’s role in the Church and salvation history from a Biblical perspective. This book follows Mary’s life through Scripture, her journey of faith, her presence in the life of Christ, and what we can learn from her. A great place to begin if you wonder what devotion to Mary is all about.

Another invaluable book by Dr. Scott Hahn, Signs of Life looks at different customs and practices of the Catholic Church and the biblical basis for them. Each chapter explores a different tradition, such as devotion to the saints or the celebration of Holy Week and Easter. A great place to begin if you’ve wondered about all this “Catholic stuff” or if you want to know the deeper meaning behind aspects of the faith.

Oh world

with your never-ending transitory temptations

You cannot win my heart

For I have given it to something much greater

I have entered the mystery of Love

I DON'T THINK YOU GET LOVE PABLO NERUDA

I have always found something quite disturbing about Pablo Neruda's famous poem so here is his poem but beneath it is my version of it. Indy

IF YOU FORGET ME by Pablo Neruda

I want you to know  one thing.

You know how this is:  if I look  at the crystal moon, at the red branch  of the slow autumn at my window,  if I touch  near the fire  the impalpable ash  or the wrinkled body of the log,  everything carries me to you,  as if everything that exists,  aromas, light, metals,  were little boats  that sail  toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,  if little by little you stop loving me  I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly  you forget me  do not look for me,  for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,  the wind of banners  that passes through my life,  and you decide  to leave me at the shore  of the heart where I have roots,  remember  that on that day,  at that hour,  I shall lift my arms  and my roots will set off  to seek another land.

But  if each day,  each hour,  you feel that you are destined for me  with implacable sweetness,  if each day a flower  climbs up to your lips to seek me,  ah my love, ah my own,  in me all that fire is repeated,  in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,  my love feeds on your love, beloved,  and as long as you live it will be in your arms  without leaving mine.

My UNCONDITIONAL LOVE version of Pablo Neruda's famous poem:

FORGET YOU... NEVER by Indira Breiter-Noro

Well now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall increase my love for you  more by more

If suddenly you forget me I will not forget you, I will gird my loins, And steel my spirit To face life without you But forget you - never

Does a mother forget the child within her womb? Even if she forgets I will never forget you

If you think it long and mad,  the wind of banners  that passes through my life,  and you decide  to leave me at the shore  of the heart where I have roots,  remember  that on that day,  at that hour I shall stretch out my arms so that my energy flows out and around the whole earth touching you wherever you may be

I shall sink my roots deep within the earth  to grasp hold of the solid rock so that I may never move from the memory of you

If when you have forgotten me  And you are feeling lonely  And a graceful bird should fly near you and cheer you up it will have been sent by me by my kiss upon the breeze because I will never forget you

And when you have forgotten me  If life's frustrations get you down And gloom covers you  and all of a sudden a beam of sunlight reaches down and warms your soul

It is I

my thoughts and wishes for all good things for you, forever

Because I will never forget you

That day when sadness wraps around your heart like a tight bandage squeezing the tears out of you and suddenly you feel a release of the pressure  and a peace and calm enters your soul it will be me praying for you sending you love through time and space

because I will never forget you... इन्दिरा

KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS HOLY.

Wisdom is a spirit friendly to humanity, though she will not let a blasphemer's words go unpunished; since God observes the very soul and accurately surveys the heart, listening to every word. Wisdom 1:6. इन्दिरा

Surrender

Ishvara Pranidhana

The final niyama, ishvara pranidhana (ISH-vah-rah prah-nee-DAHN-uh) is the practice of yielding to a higher power or to your higher-self. This practice encourages modesty and humility, as it acknowledges the existence of a greater force in the universe. It doesn’t matter whether you refer to this power as "God," "Goddess," "Creator," "Source," "infinite spirit," "universal life force," or any other term. Ishvara pranidhana teaches you that surrendering to the guidance of this force will bring peace and understanding to your life.
