The Picard Song by Darkmateria
"hi welcome to McDonald's what can I get for you?"
"Yeah can I get a deluxe quarter pounder with cheese?"
"absolutely, do you want the Meal or just the sandwich?"
"uuuuuh hold on"
*fishes my wallet out of my pocket*
"miles what do I do."
"get the fries, lad. youll need the energy in the coming days."
*stuffs wallet back in my pocket*
"uhh yes please the meal would be great"
100 Gecs is considered classical music in Star Trek
So one thing that stands out to me is: Weyoun really doesn’t respect Gul Dukat at all, does he? He’s just out there on Terok Nor, member of a species specifically bred to administer an interstellar empire of tens of thousands of planets, smiling and nodding through the megalomaniacal ranting of this one asshole who only has experience governing one planet, badly, in a post he probably got through nepotism; like “Oh, the real victory comes when you convince people that they were fools to have opposed you in the first place, does it? Okay, well. I’ll be sure to let the Founders know.” Like he doesn’t give a shit about Bajor or about this one random Starfleet Captain that this guy has a weird personal vendetta against; he’s just there to secure the territory around the Wormhole for the Dominion, and if he needs to humour this one pathetic little man’s obsessive revenge fantasies in order to do so, then by the Founders, he’s going to do just that!
I think that’s what I liked about Weyoun as an antagonist, someone who embodies M Bison’s quote from the Street Fighter movie. “For me, it was Tuesday.”
I think this is also underscores but how bored and disengaged he sounds when doing the Ketracel White ritual with the Jem'Hadar. He has barely any internal life and just exists to be a vessel for the Founders’ will.
He’s almost a tragic character, but you can’t really call him that because he clearly takes complete satisfaction in being what he is.
That’s entirely true, yes, but at the same time, I’d argue he still is a tragic character, precisely because he takes complete satisfaction in what he does. Because the only reason he feels that satisfaction is that he was made to feel that way. He was genetically engineered to feel that way about what he does, much in the same way humans bred dogs to want to do jobs, want to be around humans, etc. He’s a fully sapient being, yet he’s just as subject to the whims of his instincts as any animal, it’s simply that that animal was bred for the job of subjugating planets.
He loves his job, but that is only because he was made for his job. He never could have been anything but happy to do it. And to me, that’s tragic. The Vorta are like some fucked up version of the House Elves from Harry Potter, except they actually point out how fucked it is that these beings supposedly ‘want’ to be subservient, by saying, if that’s true, isn’t that a grotesque tragedy?
