if Charlie Kirk didn't want his death to be made fun of he should have died in seriouser circumstances

his last insta post. man I can't. I can't make a better joke than this

Ok, so just to be clear, the full circumstances of his death were:

-Shot while saying that gun violence wasn't a problem

-While standing under a banner reading "Prove Me Wrong"

-After posting "Play certain games, win certain prizes"

-By a shooter from a rival right wing terror group

-Who engraved his bullets with memes

-And would have gotten away scott free because the investigators were being led by two former podcast hosts

-Except he decided to brag to his family about it

-Causing everyone fawning over Kirk as some kind of martyr to immediately shut the fuck up

-To the point where the President went in less than 24 hours from "he was like a son to me" to "Charlie who?"

This is like something a writer on Law & Order would write to try to give the moral "hey advocating for gun violence is bad".

Oh right, I forgot to add:

-This all happened the day that Jezebel reported that they hired Etsy witches to curse him.

It’s always “the only good fascist is a dead fascist” until somebody actually kills a fascist and then it’s “well killing someone over a difference of opinion is never right, we should have empathy”

As law enforcement officials search for a person of interest in the assassination of 31-year-old Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, witnesses on the scene at Utah Valley University admitted Thursday they had assumed the shooter was just an ordinary gunman on campus. “When that first shot rang out, we all figured it was going to be a run-of-the-mill mass shooting” said UVU junior Michael Tompkins, who explained that when students spotted a man clad in black and carrying a rifle on a roof overlooking the crowd, they had no reason to suspect anything unusual.

One of the great triumphs of David Coronswet’s Clark is that Superman looks strong and wise and compassionate and friendly but also put-together and competent, meanwhile his Clark Kent looks like someone who would staple his tie to the desk but you’re not sure whether he did it by accident or intentionally to make you laugh

Okay I kinda assumed that they might try to turn Charlie Kirk into a martyr but seriously what the fuck

Here's a list of real things that have happened in the past 2 days:

  • He's being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom
  • JD Vance personally escorted his body back to Arizona in Air Force Two
  • All American flags both in the US and abroad are to be flown at half-mast for the rest of the week
  • Republican senators are calling for a statue of him to be built in the Capitol (quote: "we have one of MLK don't we?")
  • News anchors are sobbing live on television
  • The governor of Utah has pledged to give the shooter the death penalty
  • Vigils are being held nationwide
  • Evangelicals have been equating him with Jesus
  • In the House of Representatives a request for a prayer devolved into screaming that the Democrats killed him
  • The New York Yankees held a moment of silence before the game and proceeded to lose 12-2
  • People across the country are losing their jobs en masse for criticising him online
  • MSNBC's political analyst was asked what created the environment for the shooting, said it could be his divisive rhetoric, and was fired on the spot
  • A UK student wrote "he got shot lol" in a private group chat and it made the news
  • The State Department announced that they will revoke the visas of foreign nationals who "praise, rationalise, or make light" of his death on social media
  • Also it was 9/11

Alright tbf not everyone forgot about 9/11, Fox News did a tribute where they compared Charlie Kirk to the Twin Towers

i actually don’t think this woman was “too online” when she tweeted in celebration about a man who actively wants her and everyone like her aka trans people dead. but what the hell do i know

i do not fucking care if she wasn’t writing what you wanted out of a comic book. they are going scorched earth on her entire comic, pulling issues that were put out to be sold YESTERDAY.

i have been reading comics since i could walk and talk. i have NEVER seen them go scorched earth like this on a writer before. she is a trans woman and if you think that that didn’t impact this choice you’re either ignorant or being purposefully obtuse.

I’m sorry, what happened?

Gretchen Felker Martin's Red Hood series was cancelled after she made a joke about Charlie Kirk being shot on BlueSky. I believe it was meant to be a miniseries, but now issues that have already been solicited, ordered, and probably printed are being pulled. Like OP says, I've never seen a reaction like this before--even Warren Ellis, who was dropped by DC after being accused of sexual misconduct, was allowed to finish out the maxiseries he was writing at the time.

(There's some other context that makes this worse, such as the transmisogynistic hate campaign that had been levied against GFM since the book's announcement, but this is the long and short of it.)

I think you’re downplaying the Warren Ellis situation. There are credible sources reporting that he abused and manipulated over 100 women over his career. At least 60 of them got together in 2020 and compiled a case against him.

And what happened? He made a public apology, and they let him gracefully exit the company, finishing the series he was working on at the time.

A trans woman says some stuff on her personal social media account that certain people don’t like and they shitcan her the same day and start canceling orders for any new issues of the series she wasn’t even half done with yet.

The double standard here is visible from fucking space.

everyone simply must stop saying Grooming when they mean Indoctrination

grooming is a specific cluster of behaviors exclusively meant to sow the seeds for a romantic/sexual relationship with a child/teen over time. (some people also use it to refer to adults with severely uneven power dynamics, but the strictest definition is the previous one). the perpetrator is usually someone already close to the victim, most often a relative or trusted family friend.

indoctrination means intentionally instilling a partisan/dogmatic ideology into someone--often at a young age since children tend to be more impressionable, but there isn't really an age limit on it.

and the two can go hand-in-hand, like, you could be indoctrinated into an ideology that provides more potential for grooming to happen (whether by discouraging speaking out about the issue, or creating a strict hierarchy where certain people can't be questioned), but they're different things okay

I'm sorry, the charlie kirk situation just keeps getting funnier.

- gun nut insists 6 year olds getting shot in elementary school are a necessary sacrifice so that we can all have the 2nd amendment *gets shot at a school

- gun nut literally advocated for public executions to make kids stronger *gets shot in public in front of a bunch of students

- gun nut was an open racist, who constantly tried to incite race wars *got shot by a white guy in the whitest state in america

- gun nut insists empathy is fake *no empathy for him online, except from the same people who gleefully mock the deaths of trans people and Democrat politicians and anyone they don't like on a daily basis

- GUN. NUT. *gets shot and killed instantly by a gun.

R.I.P. The 2976 American people that lost their lives on 9/11 and R.I.P. the 48,644 Afghan and 1,690,903 Iraqi and 35000 Pakistani people that paid the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit
