Welcome to the trashfire

@casuallydyinginthecorner

I'm Glitter! | She/her | Minor | Certified rich eater | In a billion fandoms but can't remember any of them | Trying my best to do requests | Tell me if I reblogged anything from terfs/racists | tag me in picrew callenges!

Good evening everybody! My name is Glitter, my pronouns are she/her, and welcome to the horror show that is my life! Grab an extra seat belt, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

This is my silly little blog where I reblog anything and everything that’s on my dash and rarely ever post

Trigger warnings are tagged as tw [thing] or [thing] mention

If I say or do something disrespectful, please tell me!

I write things! If you want to request something, here are some guidelines

i love the just show up skeleton post but every time i go to reblog it i see the comment referring to it as more positive than the just walk out skeleton post and i can't. i can't do it. just walk out skeleton post has been a source of tremendous liberation in my life. both skeleton posts are necessary. we live in a two skeleton world. many skeletons, even. can you tell i'm avoiding doing work

There are two skeletons inside you

Fuck. I'm an idiot. Of course there aren't. One of them just walked out.

Tumblrinas, I need to ask a favour:

One of my most beloved mutuals, @bloodlinemagick, is contending with a lot of bullshit due to the structural housing injustice and rampant classicism that is especially rife in the UK right now.

Ava's current rental property has had a multitude of problems due to lack of upkeep by the landlord, and last week it flooded, destroying a lot of personal property, including shoes, clothes, and important documents. They will be leaving at the end of this month (June 2023) because the property evidently cannot be fixed whilst the tenants are still present.

Because the current rental market in the UK is so competitive, Ava and her mother (and their two cats!) are now being forced to pay a massive deposit just to secure a place that will eat into a good chunk of their savings (if you want to read more about the absolutely should-be-illegal-highway-robbery-bullshit that's happening in the UK rental market right now, read here and here - fucking FUCk these landlords, honestly). They're also going to have to cover moving costs, and another large sum for interim housing in a hotel between the end of their old lease and the beginning of their new one, and travel costs for work.

Ava was one of the first Indian Jewish people I ever met outside my own family, and thusly her safety and well-being is extremely important to me. So if any of you are able, I would really appreciate it if you could donate to Ava's Paypal to make sure she stays afloat during this stressful, frustrating period brought on by systemic inequality. It would really mean a lot to me!

The link to contribute is here: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/helpingus

And if you can't contribute, please at least share this post so that it gets seen by as many people as possible. Thank you!

Oddly specific kinds of fanart I am ALWAYS a slut for

1. Stained glass window/church murals of characters

2. In-universe magazine covers

3. Redraws of scenes from canon in the style of a real Netflix show or video game

4. Drawing characters with way cooler outfits than they have in canon for the sake of cool outfits

5. Character design breaking down each layer and piece of a character's outfit

6. Mimicking historical art styles (e.g. vintage posters, Victorian portraits)

7. Sprawling landscape paintings of the setting that you can barely even tell is fanart because its just a beautiful landscape

EXCELLENT addition

pansexual characters that have stayed with me, are favorites, or i think about often 💗💛💙🌈

i don’t know if any other character will be able to come close to the impact of my beloved david rose (schitt’s creek). it was the first time i heard the word pansexual used on screen and the wine analogy is iconic at this point. harry (the thing about harry) is also a big one because name another on-screen pan lead of a new adult m/m romcom. i’ll wait.

while pansexual isn’t used on page in the “ode to pansexuality” all of the above (juno dawson), it represents a conceptualization of pansexuality as an anti-identity/label or an attitude of not wanting or needing the strict, neat boxes that society forces on and expects of us. it speaks to the time when before learning of pansexuality, i had that mindset, and kinda still do. (and that cover?!)

miss meteor (tehlor kay mejia and anna-marie mclemore) has probably the only instance of love being expressed for the word pansexual. so often pan rep is a shoulder shrug situation, where the character doesn’t feel strongly about the word. but this mc says she loved pansexual the moment she heard it. and that’s really important to me, as is her journey of accepting her pansexuality and coming out.

loveless (alice oseman) has a side pansexual discovery storyline, which i always love. the mc’s sexuality arc in our way (t.l. swan) is the only thing i like about the book. a man who was only attracted to men for 30+ years finds himself attracted to women, and through a journey of analyzing his attraction/feelings and dealing with the assumptions/pressures of other people, he realizes and accepts his pansexuality.

honorable mentions: while amy raudenfeld (faking it) and the mc of black iris (elliot wake) aren’t canon pan, they’re mspec characters i read as pan and relate to the portrayal of their sexualities. amy is the first tv character i saw express that sort of label reluctancy and not viewing attraction based in gender. black iris (elliot wake) is one of the first queer books i actively sought out and the mc’s sexuality has that “fuck gender, fuck labels” vibe.

feel free to share what pan or queer characters have spoken to you or stayed with you!

i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors

“red and green are opposites 🥰” cool now how do i paint a tree with pinks and blues without it looking like a child’s finger painting or incongruous blobs of rainbow vomit

ok i can’t explain it very well but im looking for tips and techniques for rendering art like

with specifically the highlights and colors being hues that compliment each other, don’t distract from the scene, and make it more interesting/visually appealing

is it too much to ask

gonna drop some sources I have saved on Pinterest! I don't know if these all link back to the original sources so apologies for that

This one's more for palette building but I think it's useful and can be applied to the other ones

"Chromatic fringe" - I also see people using this with shading, they bring in a transition color that is a different hue than the base color or shadow, it makes it so that less vibrancy is lost and it doesn't get muddy!

This one specifically has a lot of process behind the style of painting you're looking for!

Also one of my favorite artists who makes bright and colorful art like this is Not Sorry Art on TikTok & YouTube, her website is here and it's<3 my fav. She has some videos where you can see her process

With the oranges painting you put as an example, I noticed they painted the lighter values more toward yellow - they also exaggerated the hues of the undertones of the photo, so I'm guessing they either did it in their head or bumped the saturation up to get a closer look! I really love these paintings you shared and I definitely share your desire to paint/draw like that :)

thanks this is super helpful! /gen

If you'd like 2 Print books that I absolutely reccomend to every visual artist regardless of Media, Color and Light and Imaginative Realism by James Gurney are basically religious texts for artists, even the 3-D people because his understanding and explanation of how light and form work is that damn good.

If you're wondering about Mr. Gurney's chops:

James Gurney is the Dinotopia Guy (that link includes his Dinotopia books, prints and online classes too)

5 Techniques to Help You Write Your Novel

Every writing project is unique, and the methods that help you draft one novel may not work for another. If you’re getting started on a brand new project this Camp, NaNo Guest Vee James has some suggestions for different techniques to help you explore your story. It took a few NaNos before I realized I was developing different techniques each time I sat down to the challenge. I think we all do this naturally, but it helps to step back and observe the process. If you’re strictly a pantster, you’ve been working on the story ideas in your head. If you’re a planner, you’ve set to put the story concepts, characters, and an outline of what you are about to produce on paper. Some people take a hybrid approach to NaNo. Granted, the basics remain the same: butt in chair, accomplish the hourly/daily goal, and allow yourself to tell your story.

I discovered that each unique novel presented particular challenges, and I had to adapt my style and writing techniques in order to explore the story and keep the production happening. Some of these came from writing instructors and wonderful podcasters. Some came from “how to write” seminars and workshops. Others grew out of a feverish search for “more words.”

Here are five techniques I’ve found that helped me advance writing projects:

happy pride. may you, too, one day be so gay and in love that you can never travel efficiently because you and your beloved keep smashing your soft, gay little heads together.

one of the places that toh's storytelling fucked beyond belief was where instead of distancing their protag from the main villain and drawing black-and-white Good Person versus Evil Person cliches, they gave her a SHIT TON of parallels to the villain in terms of her plotline and personality and relationships and priorities, and then they had her ask "am i just like him" and said "no. you're both complex individuals but your choices separate you. he has chosen not to change or heal or listen and you care so much about doing the right thing" GOD what a special show what a fantastic arc i love luz noceda more than life itself.
