Cartoons!

@cassiesart / cassiesart.tumblr.com

Thanks for stopping by! Check out my website at cassiecartoons.com for more/better organized content.

No more polls for a little while, we have to deal with the landlady!!!!!

I'm planning to eventually start mirroring this somewhere where it's a little easier to read sequential pages, but right now it is a Tumblr exclusive while I work some things out, such as: on the last page Kila's eyes had no shading whatsoever because I forgot. that's something I will update before reposting the page to more places unless you hate the shading in her eyes, let me know in the comments below, like and subscribe and I will send you a pizza roll!

Psst: I am trying to write this comic so that it can be understood equally well without having read the original confusing in media res opening aside because I know the old comic had some rough places (I was a teenager when I started it) and someone being interested in this comic is not at all a guarantee that they'll want to read the old one. But I know when I approach a sequel to a work that is set some time later and with the characters plunked into a new situation, there are things I wonder about that can leave me distracted and unable to engage with the work until I get answers. So, although I do plan to address these things within the comic eventually, I have made a 'in case you are wondering' page that will update as needed: cassiesart.tumblr.com/faq This is solely for questions I think may be distracting that have answers that are potentially a long time coming and are not hugely relevant to whatever plot we may eventually embark on. You are free to ignore that page if desired.

The next page will be posted on Friday!

Going forward I am going to start aiming for a Monday & Friday update schedule.

And here is another poll! What disguise should we use? (there's more info about each one on the poll, I don't expect you to know what these made-up things are, and I am trying to make this something you can read without having read KI, which is why the poll identifies Kila as 'angry green text person')

I've done this type of user-feedback-friendly comic before and I want to say a brief word on how it works: There won't always be a poll per page. I am working from a script/outline but there are built in points where I can choose any of the options that are included on the poll to take the story forward. Except for rare occasions where I make a big mistake when picking the options for the poll and feel like the winner isn't actually viable (and then I will admit it and try to pick the next runner up), what happens in the story going forward from the poll is the true and honest winner of the poll. I think the results on strawpoll are publicly viewable, so you can always check this for yourself.

The poll will probably close on Wednesday so I can start drafting the next page

My hope is to settle into a defined update schedule for this once I have a good idea of how many pages I’m doing & how long they take & can hopefully start working on them ahead, and when that happens I’ll stop doing the ‘in case you missed it’ reblog, but that has not happened yet & also the poll is tied <_<;

edit: I'm 'calling' the poll because I need to start sketching. At the last minute it tied again, but for all of yesterday there was a slim winner so I am just going to stick with the option that was winning yesterday!

Well, I was going to do Journey June, but their rules are 1) no finished art and 2) no using characters you already made and gave backstories, and I realized I wanted to do both of those. So I’m doing something else. Also probably won’t update as often as every day, I am going to wait to try to figure out an update schedule until I find out whether this project sinks or swims.

Wanted to reshare this once because I posted it at kind of a weird time of day because I really wanted to get it out on the 1st of the month but I was lazy and didn’t finish until late , and I wanted to be reasonably sure everyone got a chance to see it who would want to see it!

It’s too early to set any kind of long-term update schedule for this, but I am tentatively planning to release the next page on Monday. The poll will cut off ............ whenever I start drafting that next page (probably about 4-5 hours from now go go go)

Hello! Here is some spam!

I’m flirting with the idea of having the shapeshifters change form by using a coat, like a selkie.  1) this would allow me to give people overdesigned impractical coats they would not normally choose to wear that they cannot get rid of 2) of course there are all sorts of plot opportunities any time someone has a very important item that would cause them severe problems if it was lost/stolen/destroyed, especially if it can be easily inferred by 3rd parties that said item must exist (because every shapeshifter must have one by the rules of the universe). the coats could even be given additional properties that make nefarious parties want them and target people who are known to have one, which gives me a free ticket to have a villainous character go after any shapeshifter at any point. It could also be a helpful limitation on a character with a powerful second form to be able to lock off that form by taking away access to the coat, so it can’t be used to solve problems :)  3) the way a given character interacts with the coat would be a potentially useful metaphor for the feelings that character has about the other form, for example, Sindri would be wearing his coat almost constantly even when it’s unwise or even dangerous to have it on, because he would panic if the animal form wasn’t available to him at all times. More pragmatic characters like Sal might have the coat in an underground safe guarded by several booby traps, thinking that the risk of having it stolen or destroyed is worse than the risk of needing to transform on short notice when the coat is ten miles away in a safe. Characters could have it shoved away somewhere because they’re ashamed of it, the coat could be well-maintained and pretty or gross and moldy from neglect, etc. 4) it’s also handy if a character has a default item of clothing that spawns onto them when changing from animal/creature to human, so I don’t have to tailor my scene compositions around hiding people behind strategic objects every time they transform without clothing handy 5) I watched song of the sea one (1) times

TL;DR That’s why orc!Sindri is wearing a coat with a fur collar that kinda resembles the furry scruff around his neck in his other form. Sal has a neon green crocodile-skin-looking jacket, which he will go to great lengths to ensure you never see.

Toyhouse: Oddborg | Mallory | Sindri

Dust and Sal do not have toyhouse profiles yet because they are too new, but they have posts here and here

If you ever feel bad about yourself: when I was looking up the football gag for reference, I discovered that Charlie Brown fell for that trick for 49 years. He didn’t even get the cold semi-satisfaction of getting it to a nice, even 50 years. 49. 49 years. Whatever’s going on in your life, I doubt you’ve fallen for the football gag for 49 years running.

Sindri has at one time had a working relationship with a more typical-looking dragon, a fully grown one (with a design very much still in progress) named Sal (for now). Sal is very famous and beloved, definitely- it may seem that most people in his world have never heard of him somehow, but they’re just uncultured, trust me.

Sindri provides tedious administrative work in return for food and board.

Sindri and his ‘uncle’ do not seem fond of each other and it remains a bit of a mystery how this arrangement came to be.

Ty for the link, it works perfectly! I forgot how much I liked your commentary while you play, it's very interesting. I really enjoy the series and I don't think you're as into knock knock anymore but would you ever consider uploading playthroughs of other games? I enjoy your commentary style immensely!

Wow, thank you! (I still love Knock-knock, but I kind of ran out of things to say about it after a while)

I'm willing to consider doing other game videos at some point. I collect interesting little games and there are quite a few I could talk about, but maybe as a shorter video that's more of a review rather than a full let's play style thing- I found it hard to keep up the commentary for the entire Knock-knock playthrough even though it's a relatively short game, which is why the last segment never got finished. So I'm not opposed to doing more game videos, but I would have to find a slightly different style of video that I can keep up with better. Maybe for some games I could just do some highlights from the game instead of talking about the whole thing, etc.

I also want to do more art commentary videos, but I need to figure that process out a little more too. But I do want to try doing more video content, so it's really helpful to hear that you find it entertaining. Thanks for the kind feedback!
