MYTH: Americans set off fireworks on the 4th of July, in honor of our Independence Day
FACT: Americans set off fireworks from approximately June 20th—July 20th, for no reason other than this is the time of year that you can literally buy them at any grocery store
every time i see a poll here it just shows up as “unsupported content update to view” yet i have refused to update this app in two years because i like the plain navy icon with the white t and hate change. so i scroll on in stubborness. hope yall enjoy your polls tho.
the attention to detail in endless summer still astounds me. this background includes a neon sign saying 1908, a callback to a detail from a book 1 diamond scene where it was discovered it was rourke’s secret number, used to indicate where a secret door was. later it’s the cheat code you can use in his personal arcade, and “directive 1908” was one of his operations on the island. it’s such a small part of a art background that’s on screen for all of a few moments and is never even remarked upon, but i think it’s so cool!!
a scene that never fails to crack me up no matter how many times i replay
my friend is on ch 7 of the first book of endless summer
she’s been throwing our crazy joke theories every once in a while and this is KILLING me because she just somehow got one of the major series end reveals right all the way in book 1 when it hasn’t even been set up yet 😭 and i can’t even tell her she’s right
SHE DID IT AGAIN
she said she liked jakes nicknames and i made a joke saying just wait until you find out about the sad backstory behind them and she somehow EXACTLY GUESSED his reason for the nicknames. she is still only halfway through book 1 😭
quick theory about craig’s football number being 68 and that is that i absolutely believe he wanted 69 but the coach wouldn’t let him/it was already taken so he took the next best thing, one number down
no words can describe the cultural impact of this scene. none.
also side note i’ve always loved that the endless traveled thousands of years into the past to create a entire fake religion just so the vaanti wouldn’t kill the catalysts. like she casually shaped thousands of years of culture and war, portraying herself as their god, just to reveal to uzquaal that whoops! his entire life’s worship was just a lie haha their religion was fake and only so they wouldn’t kill the hartfeld gang on sight when they saw them.
endless summer remains pretty iconic for ending book 2 with the main character falling out of a helicopter as their love interest tries to save them in vain. like this some good shit!! i wish they kept this kind of energy in their current books.
reading the scene where everyone says goodbye to their family gives 49279327x damage because i know damn well i’m going to choose the endless ending so none of them are going to get see their family again. craig’s “i’m gonna make sure you get the chance to grow up” to his little brother and sean saying he would never stop fighting to protect his mom while i’m just sitting here like 😳knowing that’s not gonna happen because it makes me too sad to choose the ending where you sacrifice the main character to save the world.

i have a lot of thoughts on lila. the first time i played this series i didn’t use diamonds, and so never saw any more depth to her beyond that of a traitor. but upon my first replay with diamonds, my entire perspective on her shifted due to two key scenes. the act v bonus scene, and her sacrificial end if you pass estela’s critical choice.
i could go on about how much the act v bonus scene changes the way i saw her. it focuses entirely on her as you discover she didn’t go through the 6 month portal with the rest of the gang, instead spending the time alone, scouting the island, desperately trying to find rourke. it’s a major reveal, but it also gives sympathy for her character, one that you wouldn’t think to have sympathy for. the bonus scene gave me an appreciation for her character. she was all alone trying to survive, and trying her best with what she knew. she wanted to try to save diego but couldn’t because it was only her. and so she was left to go slightly mad in the hotel trying to unravel its mysteries.
and then we get to her death. in the very end, she betrays rourke and dies saving the catalysts, letting them escape and buying them time. she found her purpose in her friendship with the main cast, the cause she had been looking for all along. and she died for it. a tragic ending for a ultimately tragic character.
i’m realizing how unwell i am for endless summer to be my comfort series
