What do you know of loneliness?     You turn on your television and         find pieces of yourself in the                       jabbering mouths of                                     talking faces;   they laugh          –         you laugh they cry               –             you cry they think           –         you think they feel              –            you feel         the same, always the same;      mirrored is the image of your                    identification   as a member of the human species,         and you can feel less alien              at the mere switch                    of a button.                              //        What do you know of rage?   You sway along when the radio plays,     when singers sing you can relate;                  not a single song                         feels like        s      a  t c       n  g               c r         h  i                finger –                                      nails                      so in a way                                                 each song                                  reminds you                              that you do                          in fact                                  ( (  b e l o n g  ) )         and you can feel less alien             at the mere switch                   of a button.                                //             What do you know of love?   When you can’t differentiate between the lips you’ve tasted and the hands you’ve touched                                      [ same // same ]                                    [ skin  on  skin; ]                                    [ p r e s s u r e  ]      ;      when your heart is just an organ                    that pumps blood;                           when it’s all                                 just serotonin                and                     dopamine                                  to the point   you can be with whoever seems to be    most practical          at any given moment –                                     *   a movie script       //       sheet music      you follow a standardized protocol                     and if you feel it                     no longer serves you                               purpose         you turn it all off –           at the mere switch                of a button.
