The sheer energy. The beauty of this woman. The women hugging in the background. The man in rainbow parachute pants. This whole video is art.

“What is it that the child has to teach?

The child naively believes that everything should be fair and everyone should be honest, that only good should prevail, that everybody should have what they want and there should be no pain or sadness. The child believes the world should be perfect and is outraged to discover it is not.

And the child is right.”

— Rabbi Tzvi Freeman

“Westerners are fond of the saying ‘Life isn’t fair.’ Then, they end in snide triumphant: ‘So get used to it!’ What a cruel, sadistic notion to revel in! What a terrible, patriarchal response to a child’s budding sense of ethics. Announce to an Iroquois, ‘Life isn’t fair,’ and her response will be: ‘Then make it fair!’” –Barbara Alice Mann

Jokes aside though, please evacuate

Here is what gets me about people asking us to evacuate: with what money? With what gas? Last I heard the drive to Orlando from Miami (which is SUPPOSED to be 3:30 hrs) was at a 12 hr drive and Irma is supposed to go up the peninsula anyway so??? Are we supposed to fly out? The airports are so jam packed it isn’t worth discussing and even if a family could get out in time, where would they stay? Who has the money to book a flight (where the prices are only reduced one way), hotel, cab, food, and every other expense that comes with traveling, then a flight back into the city which will surely be in shambles upon their return?

Fleeing is an option for tourists and the rich. We stay because we can’t afford to leave. Because someone has to help rebuild. Because some of us have work on Monday. We stay because we have nowhere to go. Miami might be on the continent, but it takes 12 hrs to drive out of this state and the highways are clogged. Where is it exactly that people expect us to evacuate to?

The governor waived road tolls, and made buses out of the state either free, or dirt cheap.   There are hurricane shelters all over the state. Many that can accommodate special needs, and medical issues with hundreds of prepared workers.   There’s absolutely no excuse to stick around and risk your life, especially if you’re in a place like the Keys.   If you choose not to evacuate, be prepared to lose everything, including lives. Know that first responders won’t be able to get to you potentially for days, most of which you’ll likely be out of power, and possibly unable to contact anyone for help.   Don’t be stupid. Don’t be stubborn. There IS no excuse. Get out. If you can’t get out, get to a Shelter.

Over 600,000 people advised to evacuate… shelters that can only hold hundreds, packed at a thousand or more. Cars running out of gas on the way to shelters, taking away from the 2-3 hours a person has to get registered at these shelters when there are 5 or more in a family. Florida, a state known for it’s retried residents and tourists? There aren’t even enough cots for the elderly and disabled. Miami’s stores were wiped out in a couple of days and broward wasn’t but a couple more days behind em… do y'all know that these counties are PACKED?? Y'all ever seen our traffic at the ass crack of dawn? Imagine everyone on the road, fearing for their lives. How about shhhhhhhhhhhh. Post about AVAILABLE resources if you know them, but don’t parent the people who haven’t evacuated. We even have people that evacuated Harvey, to this coast and don’t have any resources to flee a second time. I need y'all to focus on helping, not admonishing from phone screens and keyboards. Or, keep quiet.

If you don’t live in Florida please shut the fuck up. First off there is no such thing as “inland” Florida with this size of a hurricane. Evacuation is for the rich and I think the number of people ordered to evacuate was some ridiculous number of people that left the state how are people supposed to leave if they have no money, there is no gas and no water. I saw some really fucked up stuff in preparation for this hurricane like people stuffing their Lexus with tens of five gallon gas then filling up there tank and people buying 20-30 cases of water. It was so bad it got to the point where stores and gas stations had to call the police in order to stop (rich) people from buying everything. On Friday there was NO gas ANYWHERE on I75 or I95 so… I know people commenting mean well but you have to realize things are easier said than done I am sure there are people out on the highway now in the middle of the hurricane that got stranded. And my family would have been right there stranded with them if we had left.
