I'm not really the best with art yet, but I really enjoy using aseprite and messing around on it! Used the spraybrush function and my mouse to come up with this while thinking of Junji Ito's Uzumaki. I'm still learning of course, but I felt rather pleased with how this one turned out.
nobody believes you. They all think you made some sort of bargain or deal. Maybe even consuming souls… but the truth is that you became the most powerful mage in the world by getting enough sleep, studying, and eating right.
"I promise, you can trust me," pleaded the young man. "I won't tell a soul what your secret is. I'll perform a blood oath here and now, if you want me to. Bind the words. I swear, all I want to do is be as great of a mage as you, m'lord- you're an inspiration. How do you do it?"
Ciaran rubbed his temples. "I've already told you," he said, wearily. "I've told you what I've told everyone. I get to bed at a reasonable hour, and keep a consistent sleep schedule. I incorporate fruits and vegetables in my diet. Then, if the weather isn't too poorly- and sometimes even then- I go for a brisk jog through the plains around my home. That's really all there is to it."
The youth's face fell. "You tell everyone that, sure. But there's no way that can be it."
One of the good things about getting enough sleep, Ciaran found, was that it gave you the patience to deal with the crowds of strangers that came knocking at your door, begging you for secrets that you didn't have. He'd kept in touch with some of his fellow graduates from the academy, and the ones who hadn't gone off to be, as a friend of his so cheerfully put it, "whimsical bitches off in the woods" were already evolving into the jaded mentor figures or cynical scholars that they'd griped about as students.
Maybe it was just who they were. Maybe a part of becoming a powerful wizard or mage was becoming a bitter recluse waiting to have their walls knocked down by a plucky hero.
Personally, Ciaran suspected that spending one too many nights knocking back energy potions and squinting at one's own scrawl had a way of frying the brain.
I hope it’s not too late to do shitty Fallen London memes.
You turn from the limp, still-warm body that used to be yours. The black-hooded figure beside you breaks into tears. “I’m not sure how much longer I can keep doing this.”, they say.
"I'm tired," the figure said. Where the scythe in their hand had looked so threatening, its blade so sharp that even looking at it made her eyes ache, it had, in an instant, gone from weapon to crutch. They leaned against it, one trembling hand clutching it with what little strength they had, the other pressed close against their empty eye sockets.
She'd heard many things about Death. It was cruel. It was a mercy. It was indifferent. It was kind. It was the next stage in life. It was the end.
It was many, many things, but what it wasn't was human.
Trembling in front of her now, however, all she could see was...someone. A person. A person who was, as they said themselves, very tired.
"I have walked hand in hand with life ever since the first microbe thrashed its way through the ocean. I have held the hands of saints and tyrants alike. It is a job that must be done, and it is a role that defines me, now, and for always. It is what I am. It is a necessity that I have been sworn to do until the day comes where I must reap the very universe.
"For a garden to flourish, the soils must be nourished with the dead. I am the gardener.
"But I am tired."
So the Backrooms, huh? That sure is a fun little internet urban tale. Sometimes you no clip out of reality and land in some mildewy office hallway, or an endless underground pool, or someplace that makes your head hurt to look at and doesn't make any logical sense. I've always heard it as the scary part about Backrooms-like areas being that it takes places that are tied so heavily to human habitation, and then twisting them.
Hallways without an end. Pools without a place to stand and dry yourself off. Endless fatigue and wandering and nothingness but the sound of your own footsteps, and the smell of mold or chlorine or your own sweat. Sometimes there's monsters, but the foundation of it's been a no-monster thing.
They're silly fun stories that are pretty much everywhere these days. You can't go anywhere on the internet without tripping over at least one during your time browsing.
I'm sorry to say that I'm here to add one of my own to the pile, because it's not like I've got anything else to do in here.
Drew The Shrimp for a Discord server The character concept is that it is a giant shrimp and it is perfect I'm taking no criticism or critique of The Shrimp
I'm going to try and get back into writing for this blog a little bit more. I've been somewhat burnt out as of late, but I think it'll be good to stretch my writing legs again now that I've had a break.
Thank you assorted followers for your patience!
I wish that I could exist in the world As a beautiful and sexless creature The warm summer trickling out beyond the mountaintops The firmness of a fresh peach beneath my fingers
I'm so fleeting in this world A speck of something nothing I wish I could be unbothered Untethered Bound by no body and within my own body
My skin itches in the dry desert air There's the taste of ice cream on my teeth
To the great and boundless world out there As brief and finite as I I love you, I love you, I love you And sometimes I feel like you love me too.
miserably slips into tumblr. myello. Fallen London.
I’m so unreasonably excited to send letters to friends HEJDJFJF I wish I could. Write silver tongued characters better because I cannot be persuasive for the life of me
Did you ever just feel so lucky for knowing someone you met online? Like.. I was one click away from not following you. I was one second away from never even knowing of your existence.I would never have been this happy!!!...
I thought everyone could use a reminder that this is how you choose your gender in Fallen London.
Remember how I occasionally get obsessed with black fills? No? Me neither, it's been a while lol.
This is my Fallen London character Charles Wrightman, accidental criminal mastermind and squid enthusiast. He likes knowing stuff. Like gossip. And family secrets. And safe combinations. And political blackmail material. And Facts About The Horrors. This only ever goes well for him.
He is accompanied by Wilford II, the eldritch kraken that has psychically tethered its mind to his for presently-unknown purposes. Charles named the kraken after a beloved childhood pet, and considers it (him?) family.
But you must burn it down first to see what to do next
I read your Swan Maiden fics (I queued them dw) and I love them so much!!!!! 🥰🤩💖
I'm so glad I found them and read them! :D
Got any more silly goofy stuff? Or tag or DM me of you ever write silly stuff like that? I LOVE silly fantasy 🤩🥰
Thanks for sharing your working! They're treasures! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I'm so happy to hear that! I've written a good few pieces for writing prompts, and once I have a bit more free time to work with I'll probably get back to writing more. Usually I tag those with #prompt fill or #writing prompt (the spaces might be missing), but I would be happy to let you know once I have the chance to post more fantasy content.
It always makes my day to find out that someone enjoyed my silly little works, so I appreciate you going out of your way to message me!
Your Amadeus fic is really great but you lose the comments and people miss it since it's buried under so many reblogs
Anyway, just wanted to say it's great! And lmk if there's more to that story or characters! They're so my type of goofy! :D
Love,
Thank you so much for your kind words! Unfortunately when it comes to filling writing prompts, it is fairly easy to get lost in the flow of things because of the nature of it, but I'm glad that people have found it and enjoyed it regardless. I've toyed with the idea of writing another story in that universe that ties into the Swan Maiden story I wrote a while ago, but I haven't gotten around to it just yet. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
