your baby's first word was "dada"? lol, cute. i bet he doesn't know what dadaism even is. my baby's first word was "sepulchritude" and he enunciated it perfectly.

I love dwarves so much I can't even articulate my feelings properly. they so small. so brave. they like rocks. they are strong. they like shiny rocks. i love them. so much.

Can you imagine Thorin and Co.™ showing up in Rivendell with Bonafide Gondolin blade Orcrist, and Glorfindel being like “ThAt sWOrD iS mInE!!!”

Hi everyone and welcome to a new episode of Forged in Fire. Today we’re gonna be asking our smiths to forge something a little different - we’re asking them to make Rings of Power. That’s right, we brought in lava all the way from Orodruin for this challenge. They have just 3 hours to create rings imbued with the power to corrupt and overwhelm anyone from the race of their choosing, except dwarves obviously. Let’s get started!

So Christopher Tolkien passed away yesterday.

He was very old but the death of someone so admired and important in a community is very sad nonetheless.

Please don’t belittle yourself if you feel grief over this.

I’ll be around most of the day if anyone wants to chat whether about that or about stuff in general.

The Silmarillion fandom and the Tolkien fandom in general is a really wonderful place and I don’t say this lightly but we all carry on the torch that Mr. Tolkien took from his father when we analyze, embellish, and create more Middle Earth and Valinor content.

You’re all very dear to me.

Christopher Tolkien, third son of J.R.R. Tolkien and editor of much of his posthumous work, including The Silmarillion, has died at age 95. Thank you for bringing your father’s vision to life through your work. Rest in peace.

I would just like to take a moment to talk about the impact that Christopher Tolkien has had on myself.

His works and drive to preserve his father's legacy are immensely inspiring. It hurts to know that such a creative and wonderful mind was lost today. If it weren't for him, the Silm fandom wouldn't be here, we wouldn't have Tolkien scholars or studies, and we would be left with only 4 books set within Middle Earth. There would be no further histories, nor studies on language, nor any other of his father's works.

Though I have only known his works for a short time, I can say that they as well as he will be dearly missed. It's not often that I cry, but I can definitely say that today I have shed tears.

Rest in peace, Christopher Tolkien.

Melkor: I fear no man…

Melkor: *points to Fingolfin* but that thing…

Melkor: it scares me

We, The Silmarillion fandom, possess a rare talent of somehow always recognising the characters in fanart. Due to such minimal, if any at all, descriptions of the characters appearances we all imagine and draw them completely differently, and yet we have absolutely no problem recognising them when they appear on our timelines. That short sweet boy with a storm of hair? Fingon. That buff serious boy with sleek hair? Fingon. That anime-style shojo Prince with flowy hair and dreamy face? Fingon. How do I know these things?? Why do I know them??? I don't know, this is just how it works, there 4726384 versions of every character and somehow we all just know who is who at all times.

Aragorn: What do you fear, lady?

Éowyn: When the serving-maid hands me a mug of mead and says “enjoyeth the fine drink my lady,” I’m always terrified of saying “and so with thee” back to her.
