Happy August 1st!

thinking about that time I was at some kind of diversity and inclusion thing that involved discussion in small groups and one straight girl said she really wanted to be a good ally but sometimes there were some things she just didn’t know and was too afraid to ask for fear of accidentally being offensive. and as the only queer person in this 4-5 person group I said well go ahead and ask me, I don’t care if you accidentally use the wrong term right now or whatever, it’s better to talk about it and learn something, I love talking about queerness and I’ll answer the best I can. and she just looked so nervous and in the end wound up refusing to ask for fear of causing offense. and it wasn’t just the group setting, I’ve known straight people to act similarly even when it’s just one on one

and just. you guys. this is what purity culture and the “if you don’t know something you were never a real ally in fact you’re a bigot in fact you’re worse than bigots because you pretended not to be one” attitude does. how can our allies be allies if they’re scared to talk to us? to ask questions, to make mistakes, to learn? can we please bring back the idea of “in good faith”? there’s way more to say here about identity politics and virtue signaling and acting like language is more important than action but I’m too tired for that right now

all in all this season had some stellar conversation scenes and I love that for them

I really am just so fucking sensitive about how adults treat children like mindless, autonomous bad-actors who only emote to make the adults’ lives harder.

There should honestly be laws against removing headphone jacks from devices that play music. No more proprietary bullshit. I should not be forced to buy either bluetooth or a cheap dongle that feels like it's going to break if I so much as look at it funny in order to listen to music on my own device. I should be able to use WHATEVER headphones I want.

you can submit reports of incorrect captions to hulu and i’ve had such a hard time watching tv since i found that out because i feel obligated—as someone who needs captions for auditory processing reasons but isn’t deaf or hoh—to submit reports every time, but it means i’m pausing like every 10 minutes and scrubbing til i get to the exact right second so i have a time stamp and then watching the same 15 seconds like 3 times over so i can catch exactly what the mistake was and what it should be corrected to 😔

hey !! i'm currently doing an extended research project on trans horror for one of my subjects! as a part of this i need to conduct a survey, linked here :)

my project is aiming to explore the evolution of trans and gender diverse representation within the horror genre (think pivotal films like silence of the lambs) and how changes in this representation influences the way in which audiences interact with these kinds of films!

my favourite part of s3 is where diego just decides that klaus is the cool fun uncle, not the guy who can throw you two stories high and lived on the moon, or the teleporting one with time travelling stories, but the gay recovering addict with a fashion sense set in every decade at once that sees dead people and died like 58 times

i wore red eyeshadow today and this lil mexican boy like 10 yrs old had his silver chain and hat and was all puffed up machismo but got all shy walkin over to the counter and was like “i really love your eyeshadow” in the most genuine awestruck voice. can’t believe i almost didn’t wear it. i almost missed out on bein “masc mexican dude wearing makeup” representation my heart was so full

im gonna CRY at a crosswalk these two older tough lookin dudes were waitin and one looks back at me and gives me a long unreadable look and i was in the bad part of the city so i was like ah. shit. but then he looked away and reached out to hold the other guys hand. i love bein queer so much i can’t handle this
