I saw somebody be wrong on the internet and I didn’t respond (don’t want to get involved) and I’m being SO brave about it

I should never have made this post because now every time it gets a new note I’m reminded of how wrong that one person on the internet was.

reblog to remind them how wrong that one person on the internet was

THEY WERE SO WRONG. ON THE INTERNET.

What were they wrong about?

NO I AM BEING SO BRAVE ABOUT IT

was in the car with my friend when I saw the car we passed had the license plate "SADNESS" and I went oh wait we gotta slow down so I can get a pic, but every time we went slower the other car also slowed down. so I looked behind us to see what was going on and the passenger also had their phone up and wheezing the same way I was, and that's when I remembered my friend's license plate is "LOSSJPG"

Hey btw I saw a video a while back where someone was filming a guy through his window in his own house to make fun of him so I decided to report it to Twitter, writing to them about how it’s illegal to record people in their own houses without consent (in America) and they actually took down the post despite it having more than 100k likes so basically point is: if you see someone being an asshole and posting people without their consent, report that shit for exposing private information, write a note about how it violates laws (in the u.s. it is illegal to record people where they have the expectation of privacy, (their own home, a bathroom, a changing room) laws on filming in public vary from state to state so look up your local laws) and if the content posted features you, threaten to sue them even if you know you don’t have the means to sue. scare social media sites into not allowing people to record others without their consent

“I’m becoming who I am and it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done.” Posted from the PostSecret website.

(important to note: the postcard includes a chemical formula pasted next to the message. the chemical is testosterone.)

While I was in inpatient the main group therapy guy (who looks weirdly like Mads Mikkelsen) asked me what I aimed to do with my writing and I said, "Make people suffer. Some good, cathartic suffering." Which I've struggled with recently because I felt like that was a kind of malicious goal (since, like my friend Dirk said once, I always need to do the math so that I = bad). And he was very pleased with that answer. He said that it was a good thing, that I was introducing children to suffering and the ways that people process suffering in a healthy space (since it's not real) and that makes children feel (and he pointed to the word "safe" on the whiteboard). He told me I was a suffering person who could reach out through my suffering to help others with theirs, and that was good, that was important, it was transformative, and I was protecting children.

I just sat there fighting back tears and quietly said "Oh...I never thought of it like that."

So the CONTEXT is that Xbox is releasing Diablo IV and they changed their logo to match that, BUT I'm CACKLING over the idea that Xbox decided 4 days of pride was enough and that the gays should burn in hell now

sex workers fought in the street for you to be able to celebrate pride. sex workers rights should be an essential part of the pride celebration. I'm dead the fuck serious.

I love that so many people have mentioned Marsha P. Johnson in the tags, or made comments about black trans sex workers bc I know that includes Sylvia Rivera, but this post isn't just about them. This post is also about the kids who worked the streets of Greenwich Village who fought until the wee hours of morning on the first night of the stonewall uprising, even though THEY WEREN'T THE ONES THAT THE POLICE WERE TARGETTING THAT NIGHT. this is about those of us who have been fighting new censorship laws tooth and nail, the same laws that are now being used against trans and queer kids across the country and around the world. This is about the sex workers who tirelessly educated the public about safe sex methods during the AIDS crisis, when the government wouldn't even acknowledge that it is a sexually transmitted disease. Sex workers have fought for liberation from the very beginning and have CONTINUED to fight. we don't get to forget that our lives are considered "deviant". we are faced with that reality every single day, but many of us keep fighting for all "deviants" to be free to love, fuck, and live.

Every deviancy law that has ever been closed has been closed by a dog pile of sex workers tirelessly working to do so. Men, women, enbies, old sex workers, eighteen year olds who are homeless and angry, abled, disabled, black, white, latine, every race or ethnicity you can think of, but they all dogpile together on shitty laws and shitty authority figures and FIGHT for you. No cops at pride, keep the sex workers: cuz family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability.

"family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability."

fucking. this. thank you. 💜🌈

I was told recently about a school that was shamed into changing its school motto. The motto was “I hear, I see, I learn.” Nothing wrong with that per se. Unfortunately the motto was in Latin, and the Latin for “I hear, I see, I learn” is “audio, video, disco”.

What the fuck that’s the best school motto ever change it back

“Scio” is Latin for I learn, 90% sure disco isn’t Latin at all. Sorry to kill the buzz

Buzz killed, but I don’t mind. That motto, even if wrong, is great

buzz has been revived. disco, first person active singular, from disco, discere. scio, on the other hand, is know/understand.

disco, discere also gave us “disciple” and “discipline” while scio, scire gave us “science

disco comes from discotheque, which originally meant “record library” on the model of “bibliotheque” - but the disco in this context seems to have just been a combining form of “disque” (see also compact disk) and is thus from Latin discus/Greek diskos (see also the sport) rather than discere.

audio and video do have straightforward links between the technologies and the Latin verbs.

discovered disco discourse

my friend asked me to pretend to be her boyfriend because her parents are homophobic af but they ended up hating me so much that they were glad when she said she was gay task failed successfully

okay so

  • be a goth. conservative christian parents don't approve of goth men. show up to their house wearing all kinds of satanic symbols if you can
  • know more about religion than the parents. they'll try to introduce you to christianity because you don't exactly look like a christian but your dad's an ex priest and has a phd in theology so *cracks knuckles* you'll correct them on every little mistake they make
  • call your fake girlfriend every annoying petname under the sun. i'm talking about babu, shmoopie, snuffleupagus. when you run out of annoying english terms of endearment call her shit like "my liver" or "my little cabbage" (actual greek terms of endearments but the parents won't know this they'll just think you're annoying :3)
  • to continue this, talk to your fake girlfriend in the most high pitched annoying voice possible but talk in your regular voice to everyone else
  • stare at her older brother's ass for just a little too long
  • have an annoying laugh. think of sybil fawlty but a stereotypical villain playing a church organ in his castle
  • let them quote bible verses to you. then ask "so when were those two destroyed for sodomy?". it's very funny to do this when judas kisses jesus, and it's even funnier when you've just corrected them over a minor mistake in church history
  • ask WHY abraham was begging for sodom. it doesn't make sense to you why a good christian man would go and beg for tha-
  • be over possessive of your fake gf (dont really do this, it's just an act)
  • go and fuck her brother in an alleyway. the parents won't know about this so it's an optional step
  • use words no one knows the meaning of. do this without realising because you always talk like that
  • just be yourself! that's enough on its own to make them despise you tbh

yes

BITCH

NOT TO MENTION the fact that the prohibition against direct images in Islam was actually the reason for the development of the incredible advances in higher mathematics of the Islamic Golden Age because they were required to create these structures. The Islamic World basically took the ban on images as a “hold my beer” thing and created an entire artistic culture based on mathematics and architecture where art and science fed into and glorified each other, 700 years before the Italian Renaissance.

In conclusion

i will say that islamic art drove me nuts as a kid because i did not have the math knowledge or capability to create such geometric patterns. it may have been the art of my people but by gOD it was difficult and unnecessarily difficult. however my pride in islamic art is neverending. it was frowned upon to be vain in the house, so artists would deck out the places of worship - but places of worship couldn’t be too garishly decorated, or it might detract from worship! the compromise? calm blues and greens, intricate details hidden into the complex patterns. carefully mapped out and planned patterns that were beyond complex and straight into deliberately confusing and practically impossible to replicate. not only that, but verses from the Quran were hidden along the walls, asking god for blessings and care.

muslim art is stunning and i’ll fight the bitch that says otherwise.

Also something underappreciated about the Islamic art is that not only is it geometrically incredible, but the geometry and structure of it has a purpose. In the niches and ceilings, the cascading ornamentation is used for acoustic purposes. In many of the mosques, they are so well laid out and designed that a single person standing on a specific spot can speak/sing/pray and be heard in every single part of the building.
