hey, sorry to toss this hyperspecific question into your ask box specifically, but i've been hunting for palestinian-lead cooking sources and thought i'd cast a net here. i'm not really celebrating a specific holiday this year for obvious reasons, but i wanted to try my hand at some yuletime palestinian dishes for my family or better yet occasional work potluck i might be invited to this time of year and was hoping to avoid regurgitated recipes from go-to american websites like food.com or whatever. i've found a few i've saved but i'd love to follow some palestinian cooks and bakers for future kitchen escapades as well if i can!

So there's a few cookbooks!! I would check out Falastin, by Sami Tamimi and Sara Wigley especially (click).

I stumbled on this recipe blog by a Syrian-Palestinian the other day that has a bunch of recipes of all types of food and desserts:

If I find any more, I'll be sure to add to this! If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to share.

I have a few resources!

There's a number of recipes here, including one for hashweh which the cook suggests you can serve at Christmas with a leg of lamb.

Palestine in a Dish has an archive of Christmas cookies and is generally a good source of recipes.

Almond & Fig is another Palestinian recipe blog which posted a series of Christmas recipes and memories from Bethlehem here.

And if you want to learn a bit more about Palestinian Christmas food, Middle East Eye did an article about it, although there aren't any recipes.

My absolute favorite Palestinian cookbook (and I collect them because my family is the worst at teaching recipes) is the gaza kitchen also here

the idf has ransacked the freedom theatre, located in jenin camp. they have abducted several members of the board of the theatre, including ahmed tobasi, the artistic director and mustafa sheta, producer of the freedom theatre. the link above is a google doc that the theatre itself is updating as more news comes to light on the situation.

to us and uk followers: if your theatre has ever worked with the freedom theatre, like the public theatre in the united states, demand they call for the release of these people. if you have ever been in theatre, and it’s impacted you in some way, this is a call to action. the freedom theatre operates in an occupation, and inspires everyone who helped put on their different works.

imprisoning and killing artists is a part of genocide.

I’ve been playing so much sudoku. You have no idea how much sudoku I’m playing. Every time I close my eyes I see the grid. I’m making moves in my sleep. 179432568. 653897124. 824516937. 915683742. 246175893. 387249615. 561724389. 498351276. 732968451. This morning before I was fully awake I was playing sudoku in my head. I rise with the dawn. I’m a warrior of numbers. You’re nothing to me.

The iron fortress of my mind is like the torment nexus for Arabic numerals 1 through 9. No puzzle forged against me shall prosper. I’m the square’s strongest soldier. You can’t even count, bitch. If sudoku was a drug I’d be in rehab, except I wouldn’t, because I never quit. There are 81 squares in the sudoku board and that means there are at least 81 things that are more important than you. Now get the fuck out of my sight.

I wasn't finished yet. I'm scribing numbers you haven't even heard of. I play so much sudoku in my brain I can't tell if I actually played sudoku this morning, or if I just thought about it really hard. I asked the lady at the checkout counter if she had any more sudoku puzzles. She said "i'll check in the back." She went to the back, and she never came back. I'm like a cave fish. I'm losing senses I don't need. I'm adapted to my environment. I don't know who I am anymore

Okay, since the Spielberg post blew up, I need to clear up something because I can see in the notes that pple think that Spielberg owns the rights to MLK speeches and I don't want to spread any misinformation. This is what the Vice article says:

In 2009, Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks company paid the estate for film rights to King's words, along with his life rights, which allow a person or company to make content based on an individual's story. DreamWorks has yet to produce or direct Spielberg's planned King biopic, but the rights have caused complications for numerous filmmakers. (Neither Spielberg's literary agent nor King's estate returned Broadly's request for comment.)

This means that while the MLK estate still owns the original copyright for the speeches, Spielberg actually bought and now owns the film rights to MLK's speeches. However, this doesn't erase how problematic it it is since this means that Spielberg is the only filmmaker legally allowed to use MLK's speeches word for word in his films. A White filmmaker is essentially holding onto the film rights, at the expense of Black filmmakers. The article talks about how Ava Duvernay had to write original speeches from scratch for Selma.

King has received only one major biopic, 2014's Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay [...] Instead of using King's speeches, DuVernay wrote original monologues that sounded like soliloquies the civil rights leader could have given. [...] When asked about the changes in 2014, DuVernay told the Washington Post, "We knew those rights are already gone. They're with Spielberg."

The article also mentioned that Spielberg bought life rights and according to this Forbes article, this means that Spielberg also bought the rights to MLK's life.

By paying the Estate for the film rights to Dr. King's speeches along with life rights, Spielberg obtained unprecedented filmmaking access to Dr. King’s life — supported by Dr. King’s extraordinary intellectual property (the right to use Dr. King’s actual words.)

Hope this clarifies everything!

Israel doesn't know where the tunnels are and the tunnels themselves aren't interconnected so flooding won't work. They tried this before and it failed.

This is just them salting the earth, making it impossible for Gazans to plant crops. This will ensure that Palestinians starve even after the Israeli army withdraws
