Reminder for all Jews with invisible disabilities: I want to remind everyone to be extra aware of how we are pressured by society to ignore the consequences of our disabilities because our disabilities are not apparent to others who do not pay attention. There is a lot of pressure right now to fast for Yom Kippur. Most of us understand that we are supposed to abstain from fasting if fasting would cause harm to our health.

Remember that the risk to our health does not need to be apparent to other people to be valid! If you have an invisible disability that could interact poorly with fasting such as diabetes, a history of eating disorders, or a mood disorder you deserve to take care of yourself.

Talk to your rabbi about how you can modify your religious observance in order to take care of your needs.

Straight White Frat Boy Gothic

- You’re playing a sports video game. You’re losing. You are so angry that you’re losing. Your bro is playing against you. He is somehow also losing. You both say slurs to express how angry you are.

- There are no clean dishes left. You’ve seen people put dishes in that box in the kitchen before, but can’t figure out how to do it yourself. You leave your dirty plate out. Someone else will clean it up.

- There is a girl in your apartment. Girls clean all apartments. If only you had a girl roommate. Or a girlfriend.

- You call your white friends the n word. Your black friend is over. You don’t say it around him. Someone points this out. You say it’s just a word. You are so angry.

- You get caught for underage drinking. Your parents are lawyers. You face no consequences. You say, “Fuck the cops”. You’ve been treated so unfairly.

- You smoke weed inside. Your roommate hates it. But it smells so good you say. He just doesn’t get it.

oh to be a powerful lesbian sorceress living in the snowy evergreen forests of some slavic country, reviled by village elders as a wicked, seductive temptress for spiriting their wives and daughters away to come live with me in my log cabin where we pick berries and mushrooms and roast them with meat over campfires and sleep together on piles of bear and deerskin furs

oh this post is anti TERF btw. my forest sanctuary is trans inclusive and you can die mad about it.

“What my point is here is that we have different stuff for different occasions. And what Shapeshifters has done here is made binders where the point of them goes beyond the normal utilitarian point of a binder. And honestly? We deserve that! We deserve gender affirming garments that are still binding, still doing the thing we need AND ALSO have enough variance to be good and decadent and fashion and comfortable on the days we need it. Our bodies come to the world differently every single day — so why have we been content to own the same binder in two colors and call it totally chill? Shapeshifters makes binders into fun and love and community. And I needed that. You might too.“

RESEARCH SURVEY

Hi there!

As a part of my EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) I am currently conducting some research into LGBTQ+ representation in today’s media. In order to draw as accurate conclusions as possible, I ask that you please consider responding to the survey and reblogging/sharing this post so that it can reach as many people as possible.

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and will be extremely useful in terms of my overall project- so thank you so much to anyone who is able to participate!

The survey can be found here

This was posted three days ago as of November 16th, 2018.

Twitter made the Jewish lady that posted this delete it for “threatening violence.”

Her followers spent the rest of the day tweeting this. Trolls couldn’t keep up.

Coming from someone who studies the Holocaust and the history surrounding it, It is important to remember that Nazis were human, not monsters. It’s important because if we dehumanize them we create a level of separation between us and them. It’s important because if we create that level of removal, we start ignoring the subtle signs of antisemitism because “Oh, well they’re just a normal human, not a monster, i’m sure it’ll be alright.” It’s important because when we create that level of removal, they come back in waves. It’s important because when you create that level of separation, you get the problems that we have now.

There is a very simple set of brain equations involved when we dehumanize the enemy, and it goes something like this:

“Nazis are monsters” “I would not be friends with a monster” The CORRECT conclusion is “I cannot be friends with Nazis” BUT PEOPLE KEEP BELIEVING THE COROLLARY “None of my friends are Nazis” “…even that one guy who keeps posting ‘ironic’ Pepe memes, who never really grew out of his 4Chan /pol/ phase, and who keeps trying to have really intense conversations with me about ‘globalists’. But he’s my friend! I’ve known him forever! He doesn’t REALLY believe any of that stuff. He’s just kind of an asshole, and we love him anyway.” This is a very bad corollary. It is an extraordinarily dangerous corollary. When we sincerely believe that we would not be friends with bad people, we ignore the signs that our friends are bad people.

(Friendly note: you can replace “Nazi” above with “sexual predator” or “racist” or “abuser”. Same hat, pretty much. There are very real reasons not to dehumanize the enemy, and they have nothing to do with the enemy’s right to humanity, and everything to do with the enemy’s ability to sneak past our lines wearing a nice-person mask.)

The point of voting blue in 2018 isn’t to make the US perfect. We cannot accomplish that in one fell swoop. There’s gerrymandering, voter apathy, voter suppression, and generations of older party-line fucks we have to deal with.

Voting blue in 2018 is to make it less immediately threatening for PoC, LGBT+ people, the disabled, and any other marginalized demographic. It’s a stopgap against Republicans who are aligned with Nazis, white supremacists, and sexual abusers.

Correcting politics in the United States is going to take decades of new voters staying on top of politics and not falling prey to apathy, like our predecessors.

People telling you not to waste a vote on 3rd Party this midterm aren’t saying “never vote 3rd party.” Republicans have united behind one utterly heinous front. We need to unite behind Democrats, for the time being.

i just came across this article about the lesbian flag. it points out the person that originally conceived the lipstick lesbian flag that we use today (sans lipstick mark) was actually racistbiphobic and transphobic

in the past we already had issues with the flag for not being a good representation of the community as a whole, and that was just the colors, just the idea that it wasn’t made with the whole community in mind so this new information is even worse. the very person that created this flag is everything we’re not supposed to be. this needs to be addressed. this blows. i don’t want a person like this deciding how we define and represent our community wtf

Wtf seriously??? That fucking sucks ass

Please reblog

This article makes a pretty damn good case for a new flag that’s not even a LITTLE BIT even AESTHETICALLY related to the lesbian flag, but keeps with the “stripes of color” thing most people seem to prefer (since while I love the labrys flag, I know it’s contentious and I’ll admit I wish it’d been designed by an actual lesbian instead of a supportive gay man).

And the colors are inspired by a Sappho poem, y’all, i can’t even.

[Image is of a flag with four equally sized horizontal stripes, from top to bottom: purple, gold, green, and pink]

I have not had one word from her
Frankly I wish I were dead When she left, she wept a great deal; she said to me, “This parting must be endured, Sappho. I go unwillingly.”
I said, “Go, and be happy but remember (you know well) whom you leave shackled by love
“If you forget me, think of our gifts to Aphrodite and all the loveliness that we shared
“all the violet tiaras, braided rosebuds, dill and crocus twined around your young neck
“myrrh poured on your head and on soft mats girls with all that they most wished for beside them
“while no voices chanted choruses without ours, no woodlot bloomed in spring without song…”
—Sappho, translated by Mary Barnard

here’s the flag w/ the meanings!

Another thing I haven’t seen pointed out is that the new flag would be significantly easier to make as an actual flag. The colors are all distinct and don’t require a ton of different shades of the same color that ends up hard or impossible to find all the colors for. The same goes for any other products you might wanna make with pride flag colors.

Just to clarify, this is a motion within the Conservative party, but not an actual bill, right? Like it hasn’t become law yet? And hopefully won’t, as long as the tories stay out of power at the federal level?

It’s a policy motion.

It could very easily become part of the Conservative’s election platform. It was voted in favour by the Conservative Party of Canada’s delegates at their annual convention.

Andrew Scheer himself defended the policy that was passed by his party and indicated that he wants to ban ‘birth tourism’:

…..if someone’s not corrected, how are they going to know this?  Won’t they just think they were just right in the first place.

chances are, if a trans person isn’t correcting you, they’ve already tried and you’ve ignored them. or they’ve heard you say something transphobic, and fear for their safety. or you’re in public and they’re afraid you might make a show of apologizing. or a whole host of other issues, but the gist of the problem is, you’re not making the trans person comfortable enough to correct you, and you need to examine whether or not you’re okay with that.
