I wanted that pain...
really thought i’d hit most of the cities/land based imagery in my post but you’re all out here adding literally the most obvious perfect lyrics in her discography that i completely forgot about lmao
TAYLOR SWIFT The Eras Tour - East Rutherford, NJ - May 27th, 2023
also, on the note of olivias sophomore album having a similar aesthetic to her freshman album. i actually am extremely excited about it because if theres one thing ive learned from taylor, theres a long, gruesome, historic pressure for women musicians to “reinvent themselves” every couple years just to hold the attention of the public. i think its so awesome that a) we’ve moved forward enough that not all women always have to do that and b) olivia is a badass gen z-er who is like fuck tradition fuck sexism im gonna do what i want and style my albums how i want! its very exciting to me
this is what im saying
something about taylor using metaphors like towns and cities and land and houses to describe people vs all the natural disaster imagery is so interesting but the thoughts havent fermented yet
you’re a mansion with a view / darling, you had turned my bed into a sacred oasis / i'd kiss you as the lights went out, swaying as the room burned down, i'd hold you as the water rushes in / my castle crumbled overnight / i'd never walk cornelia street again / staring out the window like I'm not your favourite town, i’m new york city / daring you to leave me just so I can try and scare you, you’re the west village / you were my town now i'm in exile seeing you out / and i can go anywhere i want just not home / please picture me in the trees / you're a flashback on a film reel in the one screen in my town / the road not taken looks real good now and it always leads to you and my hometown / when i'm above the trees i see this for what it is but now i'm right down in it / this place is the same as it ever was but you don't like it that way / reaching out across the sea that you put between you and me / help, i'm still at at the restaurant, still sitting in a corner i haunt / my town was a wasteland / i gave you my world, have you heard, i can reclaim the land / put on your headphones and burn my city
tell me why in the tags!
You're alive, so alive. And if I didn't know better, I'd think you were singing to me now. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were still around.
