The Future of this Blog
Hey guys! Bizarnage here, I wanted to make this post explaining where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to lately, but the TLDR version is I’m really just looking for feedback on the blog and if people are still interested in me continuing it.
So first off I want to say how grateful and lucky I’ve been to be a part of this community. If you told me back in 2015 when I started this blog that I would amass over 10,000 followers I wouldn’t have believed you, so again I am very appreciative of the Tumblr community and love the support this blog has gotten even during my absence.
Onto the break I took: it was very impromptu, it just sorta happened, but a few factors might have led to it. Those that have been following me for awhile know that I’m more of a comic fan, I like posting variants and comic panels and news about upcoming story arcs and all that, but it seemed that content in terms of the newest Venom series especially was constantly being berated. I didn’t take it personally, people are free to criticize what they want, but it worried me that a number of people were being turned off of my blog because it was a big constant on what I posted if that makes sense.
I think one of the best things of this Tumblr community has been the fan content. Whether it be Venom inspired art, SFW symbrock content, or whatever it may be, I loved sharing and looking through all of it, and I still do (more on that in a little bit). From what I’ve seen, however, a sizable chunk of the Venom community really up and left when Tumblr announced their NSFW ban all across the website (and ironically what prompted me to start this post was I was getting emails on flagged content that obviously was SFW but), and people started migrating to other sites like Twitter and Instagram. Though I could be completely wrong about that, that’s just what I perceived.
So what have I been doing? Well I’m very much still passionate about Venom. I’m still collecting and sharing comic content and fan content, but I’ve been doing it on Twitter through my Twitter account and the official TheVenomSite twitter. Working on Twitter has allowed me to work closer with comic creators and content creators that have moved platforms which makes everything a lot more streamlined on my part for a platform that is unarguably more relevant than Tumblr is now. So if you still like the content I used to share here, Twitter is the best place right now (shameless plug).
Let’s get to the future of this blog. I know I just spent the last two paragraphs bashing the Tumblr platform, but I do think it has its own merits, and honestly I really don’t necessarily want to leave this blog sitting here and rotting because again, I am very thankful for all the support I’ve gotten from everyone here. I would never delete the blog because it is more of a Venom archive, and I don’t want to take that away from anybody, but maybe realistically it’s time to move on. That’s where you guys come in. I’m not looking for a certain amount of notes or setting up a GoFundMe or anything like that, I honestly just want real feedback on what you all think. Is it better just to move on? What content would you like to see less or more of? Do you want less comic news and more fan art or vice versa? More Venom trivia and oddities to add to the archive? Am I completely wrong in the fandom withering away on Tumblr? Am I being a huge selfish jerk for even considering leaving and just taking an unannounced break? I want to hear these things! Balancing multiple platforms between TheVenomSite, Twitter, and Tumblr would be difficult, but I would make it work for you guys because I am grateful for everything Tumblr has given me, and I still love Eddie Brock/Venom.
Whether it's by Twitter or Tumblr, I'll support you no matter what.
