Nevermind, i deleted the post because op was a terf anyway. However what i say stands: i think mandatory counseling needs to be required at the outset of medical transition and further during at the discretion of the counselor simply because if people have quick access to medical transition they easily wind up being disappointed in their own results because they've not developed the mindset they will need. It's not about regret, it's about managing expectations and helping people cope with dysphoria so that they don't wind up ten years down the road crying every night because they have the wrong size knees.

And of any terfs come near this, go fuck yourself, because transition is still lifesaving and life-changing even though it's not magic. Surgery to repair a serious facial burn is still life-changing even if the burn can still be seen. Quality of life is a game of percentages, not a binary.

This is not to say that i think counseling should be a gatekeeping method. Rather it should be a way of teaching the patient about gender and exploring dysphoria or lack thereof. If the person says, I don't really have dysphoria as such, i just want to look this way, that shouldn't be gameover. Just shift the counseling in the direction of like, 'explore what life will be like in ten years after this surgery' and get the person to fully consider the permanence of the outcome.

If you're local, it's definitely worth calling or stopping by to ask which of your normal purchases, especially medications, might not be available based on the religious biases of some of their staff.

And keep pestering them until that pharmacist is fired. And they say so publicly.

The news article mentioned the victim's name but not the pharmacist's. (This is a liability thing; journalists have to be very careful about whose names they throw around or they or their news host can be sued.)

Walgreens needs to become aware that (1) they are going to be subject to a whole lot of very annoying calls (and possibly visits) until they declare that bigotry in their staff is not welcome, and (2) it's a really bad idea for patients to be unwilling to tell pharmacists anything about their condition, and this guy is undermining public trust in the medical profession as a whole.

A medical professional who can't do their job for "religious reasons," if they can't just fire the person, should have to make it very very clear to customers that they provide limited services.

Maybe they can wear a button that says "I WILL NOT HANDLE SOME MEDICATIONS," possibly with a nice list that can be handed out on request. Of course, the pharmacy would need to always have another person on hand for their shifts; they can't have someone working alone who can't serve the customers, but as long as they're always paired with someone who can, it's not a problem.

("Just fire the asshole" is by far the preferred route. But he may actually be looking for that; he may have a neo-nazi legal team ready to jump in and sue the company for firing someone "based on their religious beliefs.")

Iirc their official policy twenty years ago when asshat pharmacists were refusing to dispense Plan B on religious grounds was to relocate or remove them, depending on if they had a union in that area or not (the Chicago metro area had a pharmacists union then for example).

Illinois passed a law at that time requiring them to dispense or risk the licenses of everyone in the pharmacy, which had me a bit concerned because I was licensed in both Illinois and Indiana and wasn't sure if an RPg in IN refused to dispense that IL would pull my license as an involved Tech.

The argument has always been that the RPh is a medical professional, who is responsible for the people under their care, and if they feel any particular medication is going to harm the patient they're supposed to refuse to dispense. But saying your religion is informing your medical opinion on what does and does not cause harm is horseshit IMO. Doesn't stop hospitals run/staffed by Catholic Nuns from refusing certain procedures and even going as far as refusing to pay for those procedures or medications on their company-sponsored insurance plans for lay employees though.

It wouldn't surprise me if CA passes a law requiring dispensing too tbh.

Yes and part of the reason why it's worth saying is not just because he's a horrible person but unlike anything that is a civil rights issue, 'furries' are not significantly trying to enter public life as furries. For the most part furries are a subculture that exists in private life.

But children are denied a private life. On top of also being denied agency in terms of public life, most children must be in 'public' for a large portion of their day and they are scrutinized by adults and their peers in that time.

Toby Young resigned less than 24 hours after being appointed to the Office for Students over criticism of his homophobia and misogyny. It's clear that this type of hatred also extends to 'every weird person you know' and kids have no privacy from the adults who control them, they cannot be privately weird. Today that news story is that Meta, Zuckerberg’s company, is blocking all news content in Canada for Facebook and Instagram due to a new law requiring compensation to news publishers. Facebook is using its vast resources to apply public pressure to stop the laws of a foreign government and protect its profit margins. And they are getting sued by Malaysia.
