"Why don't people recognize Link in TOTK" bc everyone imagines the legendary swordsman to be built like Ganondorf and Link doesn't bother correcting anyone bc being hailed as a hero is like on the bottom of his priorities, which are topped by things like "Bake one of every pie"

Rando farmer: They say that once the noble hero of legend passed by this very village! Isn't that wonderful to imagine, genderfluid stranger?

Link, 5'6" with 2" heels and wearing a backless dress suspiciously stained with blood: no yeah that's wild

"Wouldn't they recognize him bc he's with Zelda" Everyone interacting with Zelda was like "Wow, the princess!! The princess who saved Hyrule is here, talking to us! Plus some guy with three sets of pronouns who's building a bomb but more importantly The Princess!! Wow!!"

Avatar

Zelda keeps coming across spare genders she doesn't need and Link follows behind scooping them all up off the ground like a starving trash possum

Someone uses an unfamiliar pronoun around Zelda, and she hears the item pickup sound come from Link

Years ago I overheard (eavesdropped upon) a telephone conversation between a public parks official and a golf course owner.

Parks Official: No sir, you cannot

Parks Official: No. They are a protected species

Parks Official: You CANNOT shoot them

Parks Official: Or poison them, no. Or trap them

Parks Official: If you like, we can-- no, I'm it. I'm the ranking official here. There's nobody above me. My boss? You mean... the governor's office? Sure, I guess. Okay bye

After he hung up, he gave me this thousand-yard stare before answering my unvoiced question.

"There's a flock of flamingos at the 9th green disrupting golfers. He wanted permission to go out there with a shotgun and take care of matters, but sensed there might be... legal ramifications. So he called us."

I laughed. "Does that happen often?"

"Oh, we get calls like that a couple times a month."

Country clubs should be burned to the ground and their golf courses turned into community gardens i am 10000% serious

Was golf created for the sole purpose of hoarding ridiculously large amounts of land just to brag about how little they use it?

Yes, literally.

Shout-out to tgirls who work at Taco Bell. Thank u queen, society would collapse without you

Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the “gay Taco Bell”, but since I was coming from the “gay Howard Johnson’s” I wasn’t shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And they’d worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the “gay Taco Bell” on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they haven’t changed much in 20 years. I’m still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your city’s version of the “gay Taco Bell” is key to survival.

Thank u for sharing this with us

alright so during into the spider-verse's introduction to peter b. parker, we see his wedding, and he stomps on the wine glass right? this is a jewish wedding tradition, which makes this version of peter parker jewish (further confirmed in interviews -- however, i believe this is enough by itself). it's a nice nod to the jewish roots of the character.

we get to see a bunch of peter parkers throughout the spider-verse films, and none of them have any explicit religious associations like peter b. parker. except for one!

here we have gwen stacy's peter parker and aunt may, from earth-65, saying grace over a meal. from my understanding, this is generally a christian practice -- in judaism, we prefer to say short prayers before eating, and save the long, in-depth ones for afterwards. so to me, this was a clear example of the character being coded as christian. i was a little disappointed that they didn't make peter parker jewish here too, but since across the spider-verse discusses variants and the differences between instances of the same person between different universes, i interpreted this as a continued commentary on peter parker's ethnicity -- although he was initially jewish-coded and one of his two creators, stan lee, is jewish, this is often erased, especially in more modern interpretations of the character.

and then i remembered that this peter parker also literally turns into the lizard.

and y'know what? good call on that one guys.

isn’t it insane though how schizophrenic people are viewed as violent and dangerous by the majority of society when in reality schizophrenic people are nearly 14 times more likely to be on the receiving end of violence than to be the perpetrators…

schizophrenic person: makes a post trying to raise awareness about the disproportionate abuse and harmful stereotypes schizophrenic people face

yall: “yeah im not gonna reblog this they used the word ins*ne which is so problematic ://”

What the fuck happens that changes these stats to such a massive degree?

1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else

2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people’s symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.

also schizophrenic people and psychotic people in general, please do a lot of research before picking a provider for your own sake, and if they try to treat your psychosis in a way that you think is harmful then don’t hesitate to switch providers. your safety and wellbeing should be a priority over everything else.

can y'all please reblog this version instead

Today (May 29th) is Addison's Disease and Adrenal Insufficiency Awareness day!

People with my condition are often ignored and disbelieved by doctors until they nearly die. There's no prettier way to say it; this was the case for me and for others I know.

Rare conditions still affect millions of people. "Rare" does not mean you'll never see someone with that condition in your career as a doctor.

Aside from the lack of awareness, understanding of adrenal insufficiency and how to best treat it are far behind where they should be. Adrenal conditions are underresearched, and it takes even longer for new research to hit mainstream medicine. Before finding a provider who listens to me and treats me correctly, I had to go through multiple doctors over the years who refused to recognize what I went through, causing my health to further deteriorate, and put my life in grave danger.

So here are a few things people should know when dealing with Addison's or A.I. -

- You will need to be on an adequate dose of steroids for the rest of your life. Physiological dosing (matching the amount your body should naturally make on its own) will NOT cause significant adrenal suppression, and it is crucial that you have the amount of cortisol you need.

- You need to take more when you undergo severe stress, illness, medical procedures, etc. You will NOT significantly suppress your immune system by taking your steroids. In fact, low cortisol puts you at severe risk of worsening illness or an adrenal crisis. My previous drs tried to decrease my steroids when I was sick with COVID, causing me to be under-dosed, which was extremely dangerous.

- People with A.I. know how their bodies feel, how they should feel, and when they need to take more cortisol. You should be given extra steroids to keep on hand so that you can adjust your own dosing within the appropriate range for stressors and illnesses. Many drs will also prescribe injectable cortisol for emergencies. Drs who withhold steroids from A.I. patients are NOT meeting the standard of care.

- Cortisol is not the only hormone that can be insufficient with A.I. Another hallmark of this condition is low DHEA, which causes its own host of issues including chronic fatigue, depression and anxiety, and poor muscle health. You may also need to take a physiological dose of DHEA; this is not the same as the macrodoses people take for "fitness" which is not safe for long-term use and can dysregulate other hormones like t and e.

- People with A.I. often have comodbid issues such as chronic fatigue/pain, severe allergies, autoimmune symptoms, etc. Low cortisol is even associated with fibromyalgia. These symptoms get out of control when the root cause is not properly treated, and drs rarely look. Drs will test just about everything before even thinking to test cortisol levels.

- The "gold standard" for A.I. is ACTH stim test. This is not necessarily ideal for a variety of reasons despite it being the go-to test. Newer evidence argues for AM cortisol testing as the best way to demonstrate whether a person produces enough cortisol on their own, and salivary testing may be better than serum.

- If you suspect A.I., PUSH PUSH PUSH for a dr who listens to your concerns and is willing to work with you on adequate testing and treatment. Don't settle for a dr who says it's too rare, refuses testing, or withholds steroids. This is your health and life at stake.

Though it can seem daunting, a range of noted thinkers from Karl Marx to Ice T agree that in such scenarios it is necessary to hold your friend to account for their misdeeds. Both for their own sake and for society writ large.

brought up the eel sex discovery again :/

speaking of: did you guys know that the mystery of eel breeding has finally been discovered??

the reproduction of eels has been a mystery since ancient fucking greece and they JUST discovered how they do it. scientists followed european eels that migrated thousands of kilometers from freshwater streams and rivers to the Sargasso sea (which is by north america) where the females released millions of eggs into the water and the males fertalized them and then the eels just died. because appearantly thats the end of their lifespan.

its insane. its bonkers. ALL european and american eels reproduce IN THE SAME PLACE. european eels swim across the north atlantic ocean just to reproduce. these eels live for about 20 years and go through multiple complex life stages but they begin and end their lives in the same place, despite how far they travel. and god dont get me started on other species of eels-

[id: Two screenshots. First, an interview. Ms. Tippett: What do you mean? What is the assignment? 10 observations of their actual world? Ms. Howe: Just tell me what you saw this morning like in two lines. I saw a water glass on a brown tablecloth, and the light came through it in three places. No metaphor. And to resist metaphor is very difficult because you have to actually endure the thing itself, which hurts us for some reason. Ms. Tippett: It does. Second, a poem, Magdalene at the Theopoetics Conference. Yes, the scholar said, but why ask your students to write these close observations? What use is it to notice the rusted drainpipe? The young woman asleep in the library her head resting on her folded arms? Why should they look inside the petals of the purple tulip to the yellow pollen-coated stamen? Or under their beds to where the dust has collected? /end]
