When the Sun Comes Up | Maul x Reader
A/N: This was a request from @botherbother-blog using a prompt from this list. #33 “Everyone thinks I should stay away from you because you’re dangerous.”
I started this awhile back, but was hit with a bit of a block. I quite like the story and hope to continue it.
Word Count: 2.4k
Summary: Reader orphaned at a young age seeks vengeance. A strange man in dark robes prowls their city and an obsession blooms.
Warnings/Tags: Pre phantom menace, past trauma mentioned, loss of family, burns and scarring, disfigurement from burns, blood mentioned, no planet mentioned use your imagination and insert any that you like, gender neutral reader, morally gray reader, all set up pretty much so far.
Salty sea spray misted your face and the wind drew out your hair like wicked curlicues. Toes dipped into the wet sand, water pooling between them, the ebbing water’s edge dampening your hem. The gray sky mirrored the dull ache in your chest. The roaring of the waves allowed a small reprieve from the cacophony of voices swirling around your mind.
The man in black robes clung to your mind like seaweed wrapped around the driftwood on the shore. It was a mess. Impossible to distinguish where it all began and how to remove it without making a bigger mess in the act. Was the wood better or worse off with the seaweed? The seaweed would be fine either way. The seaweed gave no care in the world if the driftwood was there or not. It could find something else to cling to or float in the water on its own.
A speeder rumbled in the distance. The intensity of the moment grew as the buzzing of the speeder drew nearer and nearer. The beating of your heart thumped into your ears overtaking any and all other sounds. The thundering roar of the speeder was no match for your wicked heart. Even the ocean’s violent waves turned into background static.
You didn’t have to turn to feel his glowing amber eyes boring into you, into your soul. The sand cemented your feet into place, there was nowhere left to run. You turned to glimpse him, only a bit of his face shone under the dark robes now rustling in the sea breeze. Your stomach knotted and your breath hitched. His alluring mystery was more than you could stand.
"Salty sea spray misted your face" ohhh I love that first sentence. It makes me feel like I'm really there.
And I legit laughed at the description of Maul taking off his cloak with "such a flair for drama" 😂😂

i think i am physically incapable of not starting more AU junk at the drop of a hat
so here is: AU where obi-wan is a former pirate trying to make an honest living except good lord if that’s not hard when the woman he’s fallen for gets abducted and the only idiot he knows that’s stupid or mad enough to get involved with this is his former pirate captain ohnaka only…he’s gotta break him out of jail first and there’s probably some kind of black magic involved but hondo knew obi-wan would be back nobody can resist the call of the sea for too long 😏
padmé’s had a rough few weeks
but somehow now that maul’s in Actual Lockup she’s feeling a little poorly about it i mean the guy didn’t REALLY hurt her after all
so the gang gets together to devise a plan to break maul out of dirty pirate jail since her Very Diplomatic And Reasonable Entreaty to listen to maul re: the weird black magic ocean weirdness that i haven’t pieced together entirely yet did not quite go to plan.
So what would the siths be famous for? (Like if they had YouTube channels, made music, were on shows, comedians, etc... in a sense that these platforms exist in the universe you made)

vader: has a TV show where he builds intentionally-dumb/ridiculous machines or demonstrates basic robotics concepts for general audiences. dad jokes abound.
sidious: plagues bookstores with his novels on Sith philosophy, political commentary, and several “Senate Pin-up Calendars” (which are known only in the black market)
maul: a Twitch streamer that mainly keeps to himself, but has made several appearances in others’ videos. he has a soft spot for tabletop and sharing videos of his cat.
savage: a wrestler and Nightbrother rights activist. a voice for his people by day, WWE LEGEND BY NIGHT
asajj: indie singer and owner of an etsy shop for all things witch-y. has an instagram for her goth fashion that has many many followers.
dooku: also a musician, for sure, though of a very different type. classically trained in opera and piano. if your ensemble features sir dooku as a guest, it is sure to be a marvelous night.
kylo: definitely a grunge/emo singer who teams up with asajj sometimes. mostly known through that but also dabbles in acting when he has the time.
nihilus: makes mukbang videos forms a famous magician trio with sion and visas. all of them are also spokespeople for disabled communities (chronic pain, blindness, ASL speaker)
grievous: (inspired by this) runs a YT channel where he unboxes/talks about unique weapons, especially recovered artifacts from Kalee.
inquisitor: a book Youtuber with his own ASMR podcast as well (y’all have heard his voice, right?). he has merch that, of course, has plenty catered to pau’an tastes and fit.
lana: seeing as she canonically writes poetry, she’d definitely be a writer! poetry would be her main focus, but she’d probably branch out to essays and such.

Also, yes, yes I made myself sad thinking about Maul losing everyone he ever got the chance to care for and (in this AU) scrambling to get a SLIVER of his brother back, even if it means just his shambling corpse....
I just recently learned that Maul's original design had feathers instead of horns ... So...

"Maul loved his brother" is also a headcanon I will never abandon.
Abso-damn-lutely. And now I want an AU where they succeed in killing Sidious, but Maul decides it was too close, so he takes Savage and backs out of the scene for a while, leaving the Jedi to clean up the mess.
Savage might have been the only thing Maul cared about, other than revenge. Imagine him deciding his appren- his brother- is more important than anything else. Imagine them bonding in safety, knowing Sidious is no longer a threat. And hey, maybe they took out Asajj and Dooku in the process, too. The only threat left is Kenobi, and he can wait.
Imagine them both faltering towards a gentler path, watching out for each other, helping each other, teasing. Growing. They may not get a happily ever after, per se, because their lives will always be fraught (at least in this timeline), but it’s more happiness than either of them could have conceived, and they’re in it together.
That’s totally an AU I want.
