hi people think that it’s a feminist masterpiece because art is subjective but im here to link to the full interview where she talks with Diablo Cody (the film’s writer) about the film, including how she thinks it was an excellent film (“it’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done”) that she’s very proud of (“I don’t think anyone could have played the role as well as I did at that time”), how she was hurt by the paparazzi and specifically how what hurt about the movie was not the film (“it was the perfect project”), but the male-centered marketing of the woman-written, woman-directed, women-starring film about an oversexualized woman using said oversexualization to get revenge on her male tormentors. Please don’t blame women’s art about womanhood for how it was seen by men.

This is a very important post about how to recognize problematic behavior in narcissistic mothers. It is also something we all need to watch out for in ourselves, especially if we were raised by a narcissistic parent.

Because if that’s what you’re used to, you can grow up wrongly believing that this is what sympathy is supposed to sound like.

I have, numerous times, talked about having a bad day, and had a well-meaning acquaintance tell me how much worse their day was, honestly believing that they were being sympathetic – that telling me how much worse their day was would somehow make me feel relieved, or grateful, that my day wasn’t as bad as theirs.

Of course, it did not make me feel better. It made me feel like my experiences were being trivialized, and like my feelings were being invalidated.

I know these people weren’t trying to be cruel. They truly just didn’t know better. They thought they were empathizing.

If you didn’t grow up learning what genuine sympathy looks/sounds/feels like, it’s hard to know how to show genuine sympathy for other people, even when you really do care about them.

At the end of the day, it is you who has to be happy with the choices you are making, food you are eating, things you are doing, goals you are pursuing. Do not let the opinions and judgments of others stop you from doing what you feel and know in your heart is right for you. Eat the food that makes you feel best. Do what makes you feel at peace. Surround yourself with people who make you feel good, who make you laugh, who sincerely make you smile. Go after what you want– not because someone else is telling you to, but because you want to. Listen to that inner voice, trust your gut, and trust yourself.
