so I see two common threads in takes on alistair performing the dark ritual with morrigan, the first being alistair romancers making it All About Their Warden and how Sad they are that their man slept with another woman, which. ok. (sometimes they take it a step further and like, take it out on him for doing it? which. you're the one who talked him into it. girl. cope. but I digress.)

the second take is to make it All About Alistair and how Sad they are for him that he's coerced into having sex he doesn't want with a person he doesn't particularly like and! genuinely, yes, that's awful.

but I so rarely see even a moment of consideration for morrigan's position in the proceedings, how she was... also? coerced into the dark ritual? by her mother, and by the knowledge that she alone has the power to do something that could prevent the deaths of her friends and companions?

"how terrible for alistair, he doesn't WANT to have sex with morrigan" granted! but. well. morrigan doesn't WANT to fuck alistair either, obviously. so can we just like. have a shred of consideration for the girl who was raised for the purpose of being nothing more than a womb. as long as we're feeling sorry for people in a bad situation. I'm so tired.

I find it wildly interesting that solas will tell you so much more about him and his plans if he hates you

it’s just such a damn good manifestation of his pride and how it’s affected by his relationships

of course he doesn’t see an issue with telling you these details if he hates you - why would he? he is so convinced of himself and of your inability to live up to expectations that he could tell you everything and it wouldn’t matter. hell, he may have actually done that at one point. You are less than the dirt beneath his feet. He is Pride and you are not worthy of even the appearance of concern.

Meanwhile a befriended inquisitor? His Pride is different. He’s holding onto the idea that he has a job he must do - and he knows you’re a worthy adversary. He outright tells you it would be easy to let you know too much. He knows he could share his heart with you so easily and he knows that would undo him. He knows how powerful you are because his entire worldview was changed just by being in your proximity. Imagine if he truly let you in? Imagine if he let you know more than he already has - you’d ruin it all. You’d save him from himself and he can’t let that happen.

And a romanced inquisitor probably learns the least. You nearly got him to abandon everything and he can’t he can’t let that happen again. So he falls into self-pity and gives you the absolute bare minimum he can without feeling like he’s betrayed you by not giving you some kind of explanation. You changed everything, so you must change nothing.

I’m playing mass effect for the first time and Garrus’s defining character trait seems to be a deep love of extrajudicial executions

He has the bearing and mannerisms of a camp counselor but when you talk to him he’s like, “yeah I used to be a cop but I quit when they didn’t let me kill people without a fair trial. So anyway now that I’m on your team there’s this one guy who c-sec didn’t let me hunt down and kill. Can we hunt him down and kill him? Yeah just kill him outright. If you try to bring him in for a trial I’ll be really grumpy.”

And then after you do that he’s like, “that was so cool how you killed that guy based on only my anecdotal evidence. I hope I’m a specter someday so that I can kill with impunity. Hey btw can we talk? When we find Saren you have to promise me to kill him without a fair trial. I’ve been losing sleep over the prospect of you not killing him on sight.”
