julia lives there
Fuckin who
julia :)
W hat
she's basically any smallish collection of values, for example, members of the mandelbrot set, where any small perturbation would DRASTICALLY fuck up the end result
she's a visualization of very very small instances of chaotic (not random, but not easily calculable, like a double pendulum) behavior, but her look on the complex plane can be really pretty :)

I’m sorry friends, but “just google it” is no longer viable advice. What are we even telling people to do anymore, go try to google useful info and the first three pages are just ads for products that might be the exact opposite of what the person is trying to find but The Algorithm thinks the words are related enough? And if it’s not ads it’s just sponsored websites filled with listicles, just pages and pages of “TOP FIFTEEN [thing you googled] IMAGINED AS DISNEY PRINCESSES” like… what are we even doing anymore, google? I can no longer use you as shorthand for people doing real and actual helpful research on their own.

i hate how you get desensitized to the cool stuff in your WIP if you've been writing it for a long time so when you read back over it you're like "this isn't as cool as i thought :(" but it still is! you just read it too many times
Gotta recirculate this post periodically just cuz
Just don't read the post too many times.
Oh god oh fuck
even if the artist were a human, there’s so much more to consider about a piece of art than just how it looks at a glance
i mean that’s a long perfectly straight line, was it done free hand? was it done in a single masterful stroke leaving the same thickness of paint the whole way through? are the edges of the line sharp enough to warrant the use of a magnifying glass if you were going to search for errors/rough spots?
and if the artist didn’t paint free hand, or if it were done in multiple strokes with different thicknesses of paint, or with purposefully rough and uneven edges, why?
what about the colour? the position of the line on the canvas? the width of the line? the choice of leaving the rest of such a large canvas blank? there’s so much to consider
and on top of all this sometimes the artist will be a snail
some blogs i follow for fan content but others i am 100% just there for the person so when theyre like oh sorry for turning into a so-and-so blog im like. i would watch you liveblog the phonebook.
downside: going to have to include a picture of the Giza pyramids in the slides for the lecture upside: i get to give people a crash course in why perspective matters in two frames, because
followed by
is such a funny sequence
i find most people who haven't seen it in person don't know that cairo is RIGHT THERE
I loved these perspectives so I took some of my own when I was in Cairo and yeah, they're literally just. Right there. Pass em on your way to work, nbd
No, y'all don't even understand.
There is literally a Pizza Hut across the street from the pyramids.
That Pizza Hut among other things is why Egyptologists laugh their asses off when we see another piece of media where the protagonists get "lost in the desert near the pyramids", because it's like... just turn around my dudes you're only a seven min walk away from the nearest fastfood shop
Yall don't know how much I adore all of this
sometimes I randomly remember that Mr Ratburn from Arthur is gay married to a chocolatier and a sense of calmness and prosperity washes over me like a wave
someone just reblogged this old post out of nowhere, causing a sense of calmness and prosperity to wash over me like a wave
Happy pride month to that rat

"Why don't people recognize Link in TOTK" bc everyone imagines the legendary swordsman to be built like Ganondorf and Link doesn't bother correcting anyone bc being hailed as a hero is like on the bottom of his priorities, which are topped by things like "Bake one of every pie"
Rando farmer: They say that once the noble hero of legend passed by this very village! Isn't that wonderful to imagine, genderfluid stranger?
Link, 5'6" with 2" heels and wearing a backless dress suspiciously stained with blood: no yeah that's wild
"Wouldn't they recognize him bc he's with Zelda" Everyone interacting with Zelda was like "Wow, the princess!! The princess who saved Hyrule is here, talking to us! Plus some guy with three sets of pronouns who's building a bomb but more importantly The Princess!! Wow!!"
Zelda keeps coming across spare genders she doesn't need and Link follows behind scooping them all up off the ground like a starving trash possum
“…of course people put into a fictional circumstance are going to want to fight, because the idea of being able to express rage without consequence is such a cathartic thing for people who most often swallow rage.”
— Brennan Lee Mulligan, on having the fights in D&D that you don’t get to have in real life
i feel like a lot of people don't know that america is not only not a signatory to the international court of justice but also has a law informally called the hague invasion act that authorises military action to liberate any american/allied state citizen being held by the court. like actually invade netherlands.
It always makes ICC news a little awkward to receive here in America. Like, okay, yes this is a meaningful condemnation of bad actions by a state; but also, I sit here in a country that responded to ICC inquiries about the Afghanistan war by saying “fuck off, and if you try to do something I will literally invade you” The early 2000s were a hell of a time
Jup. Now, to the people going “this will start ww3″ or “but my friend lives in the hague, I don’t want them to get bombed!”: you’re worried about the wrong thing.
The ICC is never going to actually prosecute a US citizen because almost all its countries are besties with the US and if the Netherlands were ever faced with an invasion by the biggest army on earth in order to extract one person, it would yield and hand over that person. This invasion is never going to take place.
The actual scary part is that every American politician and soldier knows that they will never be charged for committing war crimes or crimes against humanity as long as their own government thought the crime was cool.
