please answer honestly, or simply hit show results. if there's interest, i can make one for illusions as well. If there's any confusion on terminology, let me know and I'll be happy to explain.
reblogs to increase sample size are appreciated, but nobody is under any pressure to reblog this.
ok im kinda curious but how many people have admitted to having a crush on you?
I feel like BFRB’s are REALLY common despite being so stigmatized, and I wanted to see how many of you are out there :)
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS: i am not a creep. i am not a weirdo. i do know what the hell i’m doing here. i do belong here
thinking about the time i said to a couple people that i can't drive due to my autism, and one of them said something like "i don't have a choice bc my parents made me drive". that bothered me for a while, and continues to bother me. i don't have a choice either. if my life depended on me driving, i would die.
it feels to me like whenever i say "i can't do this because of my autism", allistics (or often times lower support needs autistics) assume that i have actually just decided not to do something, instead of understanding that i am physically incapable of doing it, even if my life depended on it, even if i desperately wanted to.
i wish allistics understood that an autistic person's limitations cannot be changed with motivation or different choices. sometimes it feels like other people have a harder time accepting my needs and limits. than i do myself.
PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT: Ten meters of polished steel, baby. Imagine the speed. Your mind races at the thought of conquering this children's play equipment. Take the plunge. Go down that slide.
the autistic view of the world has insight and beauty in it, and we’re taught that there’s something wrong with it.
What’s fascinating is that the parents who didn’t know it was the work of an autistic kid praised it as well.
Technically, we don't know that it's an autistic kid's work, either. 5e infographic doesn't say Cadence is autistic.
"appropriate play skills" is such a horrid phrase, goddamn
people demonize autism so much that parents think their children aren’t playing “correctly”. it’s play, how could it ever be wrong?
Communication Cards for meltdowns and Shutdowns
i think familiarizing yourself with history is useful and important to all fiction writing because intergenerational dynamics caused by ever-shifting societies are fundamental to the human experience! :3
"The trannies should be able to piss in whatever toilet they want and change their bodies however they want. Why is it my business if some chick has a dick or a guy has a pie? I'm not a trannie or a fag so I don't care, just give 'em the medicine they need."
"This is an LGBT safe space. Of COURSE I fully support individuals who identify as transgender and their right to self-determination! I just think that transitioning is a very serious choice and should be heavily regulated. And there could be a lot of harm in exposing cis children to such topics, so we should be really careful about when it is appropriate to mention trans issues or have too much trans visibility."
One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.
I think this is something young people in particular are confused about. My dad has always had a slightly off color sense of humor, he always feels the need to privately ask me “boy turned girl or girl turned boy?” if I mention a friend and stress said friend’s pronouns, and yet when we had repair work done in the house and the worker was listening to a podcast discussing the evils of transgender people and how to cleanse society, he went out of his way to contact the owner of the business to discuss his disappointment with that worker’s conduct and stress the negative effect that could have had if there had been trans kids in our home.
Our allies will never be perfect. They will never use the perfect language or have the perfect politics. But we have to appreciate those allies and meet them where they are, especially if they are willing to learn.
I’ll take some random nascar fan calling me a tranny fag while advocating for my rights over some “progressive” with all the right words trying to take my rights away any day.
