Because I'm only seeing other Jews posting about this, non-Jews I need you to be aware that for the past month or two there has been a wave of bomb threats and swattings at synagogues all across the US. They usually do it when services are being livestreamed. I haven't seen a single non-Jew talking about this. High holidays are coming up in a few weeks, which is when most attacks happen against our communities. We're worried, and we need people to know what's happening to us.

My book arrived today, I got a copy for my mother. I want to thank my friends who read early drafts, and my mom who encouraged my writing from an early age. To simply say I've published a book is incredible. If you're curious here's a link to read some of it for nothing, though the whole book is free on kindle rn (you can buy it after reading if you found it entertaining and want to help me out)!

Prologue

18:45 - 15/09/2017

Today was not the best. I had an awful dream last night. Well the dream wasn't unpleasant but waking up sure was. It felt like dry and dusty air crawling down my throat, while simultaneously being thrown into consciousness. I'm not even sure what that dream was. I heard music, like punk rock with metal clanging in time with their lyrics. I smelt food being baked, pastry. What I saw was a shadow figure sat at a keyboard typing. After a moment to orientate myself, it became obvious the music was from above and that scent from below. The person, I think, in front of me wrote a sentence then deleted it. They wrote it again and deleted it again. Wrote it again...

I began to wonder if I was in some kind of loop. My dreams had always been strange after all. Figures in lakes, dancers on clouds, people I know who by coincidence need help the next day. Strange stuff, but as a therapist I'm aware that any pattern or symbolism they have is simply bias. After all, it's likely just the amount of cheese I eat. Though that will never stop me from getting my dairy, even if I have nightmares like this one.

Still, this figure was obviously distressed. They wrung those silhouetted hands anxiously, then rubbed their temples before walking away from this computer. Beyond that the room was fuzzy, like the edge of a fog just barely overlapped with everything else. I could hardly make out their shape. There was a sound of rough metal scraping, coming from the shade. But the tone and length, I'm not sure but they might have been crying.

Suddenly, they wailed. The sound of scratched metal jolted me awake, struggling to keep my stomach under control. It truly feels like being punched in the diaphragm. That was only the beginning of my day as well. When I got to work this morning Josephine reminded me this was the last day for Lucas to reclaim his spot. Honestly, the meanest part of me is a little glad after all my policy of holding spots for those who leave does cannibalize the business. Thankfully, Josephine was on the ball because he didn't show. This one is particularly annoying because Lucas decided not to inform us of his intention to quit therapy. Josephine spent several hours trying to figure out why he never showed the first time. Just plain rude.

So, it's been a poor day all in all. Hopefully we find someone to take his spot soon. Who knows, maybe that creature from my dream would like some therapy. Ha, that would be interesting.

I just got a little message from Josephine to say the Wednesday evening slot has been filled. She's scheduled one Allison Gobena, ward of Sam Reading, for the 20th of September. Damn, that's Rosh HaShanah, I should have reminded Josephine of that but truthfully I didn't think we'd find someone that quickly. Well, we all sin on occasion. I'll have to go on the second day.

I wonder what she'll be like.

Hi, if you enjoyed that and want more, good news I wrote an entire book already, so please enjoy it everyone!

"There’s a perception of autistic people and people with [intellectual and developmental disabilities] overall, that we’re not able to make our own decisions. Big decisions like those around health care, education, living arrangements."

If you're trans I think it's important that you know that TERFs are using anti-trans rhetoric to stop autistic people from transitioning. Autistic people are highly likely to be trans, genderqueer, nb, or otherwise gnc.

We deserve the right to transition.

Autistic people already face frequent barriers to transition within existing medical systems. Here in the Netherlands those can range from longer diagnosis to being told to ‘work on your autism first’ to simple refusals to diagnose and prescribe care to a trans person because they are autistic.

One of the many examples of why our fight for self determination and access to transition care must be intersectional.

I’ve seen autistic TERFs before (and blocked them), but, like, they’re betraying their own community doing that.

This is important to be aware of, some people can't live without gender affirming care! Please, if you follow me, share this. This prejudice and malice has dire effects on people!

Trying to include a werewolf in your story often causes an expectation they will transform for your audience. You have a lot of options for this, but once you've committed to one it's said something about the nature of a werewolf.

  • Painful transformations can make us feel horrified while watching it, and hope we never endure that kind of agony (AAWIL);
  • A swift and controlled change can emphasize the power a werewolf has, making this curse more aspiration (Underworld);
  • Instances where the transformation is very gradual over days leading up to the moon can be fairly tragic due to the loss of autonomy these characters experience (Silver Bullet).

It can be tempting to commit to an aesthetic, however it's essential to ensure the themes of your werewolf story match it. A werewolf who transforms relatively quickly and painlessly isn't going to mesh with a horrific and tragic narrative. They can still work. For instance, the emphasis on how easy it is to let go of their humanity, to indulge, how hard it is to keep the beast at bay. These are themes you can explore in a quick transformation. Perhaps, full moon changes are slow and painful because the human side is fighting their beast trying to tire it out before it gains control. In that we see a more heroic element to the lycanthrope.

Please reblog with your favourite werewolf transformations! Pretty sure my fav. is from Hemlock Grove, just so visceral!

If the lovely people leaving notes for me have any interest in a vampire story where they receive the same level of thought, please check out my book! I'm sure you'll have a great time and the sequel I'm working on has werewolves!
