ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

❝Hello, sir! What's your name? I'm Jakko!❞ the jester mused out with an excited tint in his syrupy voice.

His gaze remained up at the demon in front of him as his blue painted lips pulled into a wide, toothy smile.

This /man/ was dressed awfully fancy. He sure was wearing a lot of red too.

Jakko didn't necessarily understand why, but he desperately wanted to befriend this person.

Jakko wanted to be friends with everyone - but mostly the strange people. Jakko didn't like to be bored.

❝Do you wanna’ be best-friends-forever?❞ he added, his smile widening with intense happiness.

He adorned quite a hopful expression.

"Alastor's the name darling, pleasure to meet you!" Alastor tilted his head, curious at the little jester before him- Quite a bright fellow wasn't he? His tail flicked idly back and forth at the prospect of something finally interestin happening.

He blinked a bit at the suggestion before letting out a quick laugh. "Friendship is a bit fast for hardly one conversation, don't you think? Why don't you chat with me a moment longer and we can see where this goes from there?" He hummed, a jovial tune comig from his chest with a click.

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

❝Oh my gosh! You're *so* right, Mister Alastor! I don't even know what your favorite color is yet!❞ Jakko gushed out as a dramatic gasp left his blue lips.
❝Oh! *Or* your favorite food! Or your favorite fruit! There's just so many things I *need* to know!❞

The male placed a gloved hand on his bruised forehead, a shaken look on his battered face.

❝So . . . for starters. What's your favorite color? Probably red, huh?❞

Alastor's eyes flicked over the other's battered face, familiar bruises that he'd seen before on himself and others standing out like a beacon. He also knew there wasn't likely to be much desire to talk about them so he simply grinned and answered the questions one after the other.

"Yes, it would seem you've caught me red-handed as that is my favorite color! And my favorite food would have to be Jambalaya! Favorite fruit....hm, I don't eat them too often but I've often found lemons to be an excellent addition to any dish!" It was rather nice to ramble without much meaning! He didn't often get to talk about himself so freely..."And what about you, dear?"

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

*What?*

*Lemons?*

Jakko didn't even know lemons were even a fruit! Guess people learn new things everyday!

❝Oh, - lemons are . . . nice!❞ the boy lied, a girly little giggle coming from him.
Jakko had quite the sweet tooth. Well - actually, he had a whole set of sweet *teeth.* He didn't eat anything but sweets. Good thing he moved around a lot to make up for it!
One could clearly see, Jakko could *never* stay still.
❝Well, I like all colors, but my favorite color is pink!❞ he squealed, his big, doe-eyes sparkling with great emotion.
❝And my favorite food is cotton candy! *And* bags full of sugar! And my favorite fruit is peaches because they're so sweet!❞

Image

Alastor tilted his head a bit curiously at the obvious lie about liking the fruit- that certainly wasn't necessary! He knew for a fact that not many people cared for the sour things.

Alastor did not the energy levels of the other, his Shadow coming out to spring around a bit- the Shadow always had a similar amount of energy, it's ears perking happily as it watched the bouncing little jester.

"Pink is a fine color, dear! However, I can't say I've ever been fond of sweet things..." his nose scrunched up a bit at the thought of eating so many sugary confections- No he didn't prefer them at all!

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

Jakko didn't like disagreeing with people. Last time he had a different opinion from the lion tamer, the man broke his arm! The jester found that lying about some things was the safest option. Of course, no one would really get angry for an opinion about lemons but Jakko just wanted to be extra cautious. He didn't know if he could take any more shattered bones and nasty bruises.

Shaking his head to rid himself of these troubling thoughts, Jakko looked up and gazed at Alastor and his beaming shadow.

Alastor made him very curious - he just wanted to ask him so many things!

❝What are you, by the way? And why are you dressed so fancy? Are you magic? Like a magician?❞

Alastor hummed quietly, letting his Shadow inspect the strange little jester. He certainly knew a thing or two about lying to protect oneself so he didn't question it.

His Shadow chittered happily moving around the other a few times while Alastor's ears flicked in thought. "Why I'm a demon, dear!" A deer demon to be exact, but he still didn't prefer that he was sent to Hell as a prey based animal.

"I simply like dressing like this- I rather enjoy my sense of style!" His sweatervest was more for comfort, but the deer felt he looked rather charming with the bowtie and red undershirt, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. A rather casual but still business-like attire in his opinion!

"I do have magic, however most of it is a variation of Voodoo, Hoodoo, and whatever other bits of magic this form allows me!" He was used to the Voodoo, however, his demon form provided a myriad of other bits of magic to use!

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

Jakko's blue eyes followed the shadow for a moment or two, before resting back up at Alastor. The shadow seemed to be excited, which Jakko liked because he was excited too!

After hearing Alastor's answer, Jakko couldn't help but to giggle again. He didn't look much like a demon to Jakko. Though he wasn't going to say anything about that. No, he had something else on his mind - much more important.

❝Why do you have antlers? Oh! Are you a moose? A magic-demon-moose!❞ the jester squealed out with his usual, toothy smile never faltering.

He'd never actually seen a moose before . . . but he knew that they had antlers too!

❝I wanna' touch them! Can I touch them, please?❞

Jakko inquired with a hopeful look on his bruised face. He then bat his long, feather-like eyelashes.

Alastor tilted his head at that, opening his mouth to respond before the little jester made that comment...he paused before letting out a laugh at the idea- a moose! How absurd...Those were much more violent than deer were known for so that would likely be a step up! Regardless he gave his head a light shake, quickly correcting the jester. "No dear, I'm afraid I'm actually a deer-based demon! My antlers are never quite as thick as a moose's and I imagine my appearance would be different as well..."

Alastor was a bit more hesitant to allow the other to touch his antlers- he still didn't like being touched most of the time, but he supposed he could make a small exception..."Alright dear, I don't see why not!" He leaned down, tilting his head forward to expose the black spikes, flattening his ears to keep them out of the way.

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

❝Ooh.❞ Jakko nodddd his head, a curious gaze in his eyes.

❝I've never met a deer before! Or had one as a friend! I'm so glad I found you!❞

The jester's words were genuine as could be. He didn't have many people who were nice to him, so he got very attached to people who showed him even a bit of decency.

When the demon agreed to let Jakko touch his antlers, the jester's smile widened greatly. Somehow, he got even more excited than he was before.

The boy reached his hand up, gently feeling the other's spikey antlers. He carefully felt them for a few moments, before pulling away and giggling quietly.

❝You're like - the nicest demon I've ever met! Thank you!❞

Alastor chuckled in amusement, twitching slightly as the boy felt his antlers- they were still sensitive around this time of year, but the little jester was being careful which he appreciated. His Shadow prickled a bit in discomfort beside him but busied itself with looking Jakko over some more in curiosity.

"It's really not a problem, dear! I'm simply being polite, I've no reason to be any other way at the moment...It wouldn't do for me to show off the hotel without manners now would it?" That and this jester looked fairly young...Alastor didn't care for harming children or those who were innocent in such a way. The little jester looked like he'd seen enough anyways...

"Might I ask what you were doing before you happened upon me?" He was a bit curious- surely the jester had somewhere to be other than chatting with the deer? A place to go back to? Hm, if he were without a home, Alastor could always offer him a place at the hotel...

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

Jakko could only smile genuinely at Alastor's words. He wasn't used to anyone having manners with him - so Alastor's manners just seemed like strange and unusual kindness. Jakko just wasn't used to politeness at all.

Although he was finally feeling real happiness for once, the jester's cheery smile faltered when the demon asked that . . . question.

Um - ❞

Jakko paused.

He simply hated talking about what happens back at the carnival - and Jakko rarely hated anything.

Most people left the carnival with stuffed animals and prizes; Jakko just left with dark bruises and lash marks across his whole body and face.

Today happened to be a real bad day for the boy. He had spilled his drink on the tamer's suit, which caused him to get really angry. No one liked the tamer when he was angry. Especially not Jakko.

Glancing down at the ground, almost in an ashamed manner, Jakko got real quiet. He was deciding whether or not to just lie. Eventually, he just decided to tell a little bit about his day. Not the whole truth, just bits and pieces.

❝I was . . . at the carnival today. I was helping the lion tamer clean up!❞ he finally spoke, forcing a small smile.

He was cleaning up. The lion tamer didn't do much to help; Jakko woud leave that part out though.

The shift in energy was almost tangible- Even his Shadow paused to peer at the jester before Alastor shot it a look to make sure it didn't stay still for too long, not wanting to set the boy off into thinking something was wrong.

Alastor wasn't a fool. It was obvious what the bruises, the lowered gaze, the dodging of the questions was....the deer should know, he and his father had never exactly seen...eye to eye. Let's just say he had an idea of what the little jester might be going through and he was glad his father had decided to stay on his own side of Hell for once.

Alastor let his smile soften, clasping his hands behind his back as he spoke, "Well, that certainly sounds interesting! Let me ask you, dear, would you ever consider coming back to my and the princess's hotel? You could drop by for a meal, to chat with the patrons there, or even to request a free room if you wanted!" Now his ears ears perked up a bit further.

"And if you were to become a patron well, you should know, I am fiercely protective of anyone being managed at the hotel and won't hesitate to defend any of them!" Whoever was possibly hurting this boy...they wouldn't get very far with Alastor in the way. But he would still have to convince the little jester to come at all first, and that could be...difficult. These types of situations always seemed to require more than he could offer. Alastor simply didn't have enough information on the potential relationship behind this...

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

Oh dear.

Jakko didn't necessarily know what to say. That hotel sounded fun and . . . safe.

Though although it sounded great, the jester was certainly held back by a feeling of fear and uncertainty.

❝Oh, I'd love too! But - the lion tamer would literally kill me if he found out I left.❞

Jakko's statement was followed by a pause. He felt awfully stupid.

This was his chance to leave the carnival for good - and still, he felt great hesitation and terror. He knew the lion tamer would find him - but Alastor said he would protect him. That statment conflicted Jakko the most.

❝But perhaps death is worth it. At least I'd die happy, huh?❞ he spoke quietly, a faint smile playing on his face.

Even if the tamer killed him, he knew the hotel would be better than the carnival, even if it was short-lived.

Alastor let out a low chuckle, antlers almost growing a bit at the comment before he reigned in his magic and stood up straight again, smile widening to expose more teeth while a bit of static crackled through. "He would have to get through me first, I'm afraid. There will be no dying on my watch."

He let out a huff, turning his head to the side and blinking the radio dials out of his eyes. No need to frighten Jakko, simply because he was getting worked up. "My Shadows often watch the hotel and everyone in it when I don't have the capability."

The deer offered the jester his hand. "They are fully capable of attacking themselves, and should they feel the threat needs my attending to then I could be there in a matter of seconds. We could go now, if you wish?" He didn't know if the boy would be searched for- it probably would be best to leave sooner, rather than later and find out.

Jakko's big eyes widened even more when he saw all the static and distortion. The jester wasn't scared though. Perhaps just mesmerized.

Jakko had seen a lot of things and met a lot of people - none of which were as cool and nice as Alastor was.

He might've known the demon for a real short amount of time, but he felt safe with him. Well, as safe as he could. Alastor seemed so kind; Jakko just couldn't help but to trust him. Perhaps that was his naivety talking - or perhaps he was just plain stupid. Whatever it was, Jakko didn't care. He wanted to be by this demon's side for as long as he could.

❝Thank you, Sir. ❞ the boy stated, his words a bit shaky.

With slight hesitation, Jakko placed his hand in Alastor's, gazing up at him with thick tears welled up in his icy blue eyes.

❝I want to go - but promise me that I won't die, okay?❞

Alastor seemed to relax marginally as the other took his hand, letting his smile untense in a friendly manner. "You are very welcome, dear." His brows did furrow in concern at the question, and he straightened himself out, pushing conviction into his voice.

"You have my word that no harm will befall you if I can help it, and you absolutely will not die." It was a shame he had to promise such a thing to someone so young, but the deer supposed he always had somewhat of a moral dilemma when it came to those so young...

He may have been a bloodthirsty serial killer, but even he had a moral code he stood by, no matter how twisted it might be. He did not harm children. "Are you ready to go now? Do you have anything you wish to bring?"

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

❝No, Sir, I don't have anything to bring.❞

Once again, Jakko's smile returned. But this time, it stayed.

His poor little heart certainly was feeling something. Excitement? Always. Love? Typical. This was more a feeling of . . . safety. He felt safe. For the first time in many years.

Still, as safe as he might've felt, he still had one more question on his mind.

❝But before we go . . . can I have a hug please?❞

That was a touch upsetting, but not a shocker to the deer so he simply nodded, brows lowering a touch before he spoke up. "That's quite alright, you'll have plenty of time to procure new items for yourself when we get back!"

Alastor blinked in surprise at the little jester before a cheerful little laugh bubbled up- He certainly hadn't been expecting that question of all things..."Yes, you can have a hug, dear...Thank you for asking." The deer tolerated hugs more from children because he knew they often craved that physical affection....he could make an exception for the boy. So he quickly opened his other arm, inviting the little jester to come closer.

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

Jakko really didn't have anything to bring except his messenger bag he had slung across his chest.

The thing about that bag - he had everything he ever needed inside. It was nearly impossible, the amount of endless things that were stuffed inside that thing. Clothes, shoes, makeup, nail polish, different hats, chocolates, an empty box of cigarettes (that reminded the male of the tamer), peppermints, knives, Band-Aids and most importantly, a massive amount of cotton candy.

He carried this bag everywhere, so he really didn't have anything to go get. It was all with him!

When the demon agreed to the hug, the boy gasped.

Yes! He loved hugs! Though he didn't get them often. Usually just when the tamer was drunk, and even then, he wasn't really a good hugger.

The jester quickly clung to the demon's waist, squeezing him as much as his weak body was able too. He wanted to stay in the hug forever - and never let go. He felt so attached.

❝Does this mean we're friends now?❞

Alastor huffed in amusement at the other's excitement but was quick to settle his hands on the boy's back and offer a similar reassuring squeeze, back- Alastor may look scrawny but his body was more than capable of enduring most things easily, so the little jester's attempt at a bear hug simply made him chuckle- he certainly appreciated the enthusiasm!

"Hm, I suppose it does! I don't just give out hugs to anybody, you know?" He huffed, rubbing the other's back in what he hoped would be a comforting manned. Despite his getting better at receiving physical affection, it still tended to make him a touch uncomfortable so he couldn't help bjt fidget in the slightest after a moment. "So, are you ready to go, dear? I believe you'll enjoy meeting the others there as they tend to be friendly enough! Charlie especially would love to make you feel even more welcome!"

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

With another small squeeze, the boy finally let go, redirecting his gaze up at Alastor.

❝Yes, I'm ready, Sir! I'm so excited!❞ he gushed out with a toothy smile.

He didn't necessarily know who Charlie was, but Jakko was thrilled to meet them - and the other hotel staff. One of Jakko's favorite things was making new friends - though he never really was able to. The lion tamer never let Jakko talk to other people, so it was a good thing Jakko ran away this particular day.

Now he had met Alastor and he was going to protect him! It all sounded too good.

❝I can't wait to meet new friends and have my own life for once! And I won't let anyone smack me around anymore.❞ the jester sneered slightly, before smiling once more.

❝Let's go!❞

Jessi'iona had went to the circus one night after seeing an ad about it, she had dressed up in a white shirt with a tie-dyed jacket and shorts, her long curly white hair was in a ponytail, she was excited, she got her tickets an sat in the front row, she had her hands clasped together in her hands as she watched the show, so far she had like the very colorful clown, she smiled but not wide enough to show her teeth.

Avatar

Finally.

The show was over. Now, Jakko could go into his dressing room and decompress. Take a hot, bubble bath or maybe drink some calming tea. Perhaps both!

Whatever he was going to do, it had to wait a little bit longer. He forgot that he had to wait to clean up the stage quite a bit - which really just made Jakko’s mood already deteriorate even more than it already was. First, he had to get smacked around a whole bunch - (for spilling a drink before the show even started), and then he had to watch his idiot co-stars mess up the dance routine countless times. It sickened Jakko to the core. And now . . . he had to spend his time cleaning the various props on stage. They always left the biggest messes for him to clean up. Though, he couldn’t find it in him to be angry. Just wasn’t who he was.

His big, icy eyes trailed along the stage, all the way to the few audience members that were left. That was when his gaze landed on the white haired lady. He simply shot her a faint smile before resuming his work.

 How pitiful.

❝Does this mean we're friends now?❞

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

"I do have magic, however most of it is a variation of Voodoo, Hoodoo, and whatever other bits of magic this form allows me!" He was used to the Voodoo, however, his demon form provided a myriad of other bits of magic to use!

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?

ᴡʜʏ'ᴅ ʏᴏᴜ sᴛᴇᴀʟ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍʏ ᴄᴏᴛᴛᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ?
