All ill say if the us supreme court decides to turn over the indian child welfare act and i don't see white people talking about it, especially white lgbt people, i will be pissed

Putting this on my account so it reaches my audience. I don't know what this is or what's happening but if I can spread awareness for those who need it, I'll happily talk about it.

So the ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) basically prevents the removal of Native American children from their homes, which essentially removes them completely from their culture and whitewashes them. Obviously, that’s not very good, which is why the tribes fought to get the bill instated and now people are trying to remove it, which is why it’s going to the SCOTUS. Which is why that link above is very helpful!

Lately I've been thinking about the ways that families, and society, just aren't taught to celebrate queer people.

Probably the most significant life change that my sister experienced as a young adult was getting married to her husband. They are both lovely people, and their marriage was celebrated by an expensive formal ceremony surrounded by friends and family. There was catering and beautiful clothing and a hired band and dancing and photographers. My sister and her husband were surrounded by people who loved them, and were expressing their love and their joy. It was considered normal and natural for the occasion to be marked, and marked well.

The most significant life change I've experienced to this point in adulthood has been coming out as trans. Like my sister, I bought outfits for the occasion (but wardrobe essentials rather than a wedding dress). Also like my sister, I filled out paperwork to change my legal name (although the process was significantly longer and more expensive in my case, and the change was met with confusion and annoyance rather than congratulations). The similarities ended there. There was no party. No one congratulated me. There was no sense of celebration. Just the relief of "Thank hell the paperwork's over with," and the exhaustion of having to repeatedly remind disinterested relatives about names and pronouns and Gender Studies 101. Years later, most of my family still misgenders me behind my back, and frequently to my face. Not "on purpose." They just don't care enough to learn.

But hot damn, coming out means something, motherfucker. Queer self-discovery is hard and it is long, and it is an achievement. It deserves to be recognized, and to be celebrated.

Looking back, I wish I had celebrated. I wish I had dressed up and insisted on a family dinner at a nice restaurant. I wish I had told people to send me congratulatory greeting cards. I wish I had demanded to be celebrated. But it didn't occur to me, much less to my family members. That's the extent to which we are taught to ignore the significance of queer experiences. I went through a journey that transformed my life, and it didn't even occur to me to celebrate.

And even if it had, I would have had to celebrate alone, at least in spirit. Because the same people who were so excited to show up and celebrate my sister's marriage, this major milestone of her adulthood, just fundamentally did not care about the milestone I had reached. They barely acknowledged it; it didn't match their own experiences, and so they didn't recognize its importance. Crucially: they didn't offer me congratulations or celebration, because they were never taught to. And that's a pile of rubbish. All this to say:

Celebrate queer family & friends with the same gusto you celebrate cishets.

Bitch.

More links, PLEASE reblog or repost and add more resources: OHCHR - Iran: Women and girls treated as second class citizens, reforms urgently needed, says UN expert Iran: Where the regime opposes women’s rights Read: The Wind In My Hair - My Fight For Freedom in Modern Iran by Masih Alinejad

Watch: Kiosk - Sweet Destiny (the movie) I don’t think I’ve ever asked my followers to reblog anything but this time it would mean. The actual world. To the people of Iran. If you could spread awareness of the Iranian people’s fight for freedom right now. I’m not on Twitter or Instagram (although this post is optimized for instagram so PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REPOST IT ON IG) but from what I could see there is not as much noise about this as it should be. Nor is it easy to find posts with resources and basic information. And on tumblr I’ve only seen some posts from dedicated feminist blogs or actual Iranians. And from what I’ve gathered they NEED US to share what’s going on. They are shutting down internet in Iran so it’s up to us to not let the world look past this, not this time. PLEASE join the fight for women’s rights!!!

its kinda scary how your whole life depends on how well you do as a teenager

oh my god No it doesn’t don’t put this kind of pressure on people?? you can absolutely fuck up in your teen years and continue on to a good life just fine. you can drop out of school, get a GED, still go to college and finish your degree as late as you want. i know people in my school who still haven’t graduated and they’re 26. some older. you can always transfer someplace else, always build yourself up from the ground. after a certain amount of college credits, a lot of schools really don’t care about your high school GED or your SAT scores anymore. if you fuck up in your teenage years you are not a failure!! you can ALWAYS re-invent yourself, always start over. there is always a second chance.

Reblogging this for my followers freaking out over art school/college. I dropped out of high school and never thought I’d get into college as easily as I did. You will be fine!

Fun story my biology professor just told us:  When he was 23 he was married to his wife and worked two jobs to support them since she was in college: gas station attendant and construction worker.  He worked these two jobs because that was the only work he could get since he was at the reading level of a third grader.

One night he was writing something and his wife noticed he was writing from right to left.  Since she was studying occupational therapy she realized he had a learning disability and started working with him.  He slowly began to learn to read, and at 26 got his GED and went to college.

His first year of college he took the lowest level math course he could take, 001.  Over the years he worked on learning what he needed to, ended up graduating with a biology degree.  He then went on to get his masters and PhD, graduating at the top of his class.  He is now an extremely accomplished biologist and professor.

So don’t let anyone tell you that you’re future is based on your choices as a teenager.

Seriously.  Do not believe this.  You aren’t even stuck with your choices you make in your 20s.  I didn’t start working in my current field until just after my 30th birthday.  It has nothing to do with what I went to school for in my 20s.  My husband has a political science degree, and he’s a sports journalist.

You are not tied to anything.  Go.  Be.

My day job did not exist when I was a teenager. And the idea of trying to be an author was a distant thing on my radar. I thought I was going to be an English teacher. And then I thought I was going to be a music teacher. And then I thought I was going to be a drama teacher.

Also in there: therapist, early childhood educator, then finally: web developer–because by then it was an actual thing that existed. I didn’t actually figure out what I “wanted to do when I grew up” until about eight years ago, when I was 36. I tried pursuing writing when I was 30, stopped, then started pursuing it seriously again when I was 40.

There is always time to change. And don’t let anyone tell you that high school is “the best time of your life” either, because that’s bullshit too.

I was a high school drop out and didn’t go to college until I was within a month of my 40th birthday. While there I changed my major twice. Then I taught art long enough to earn retirement. Before college I’ve worked in dog kennels, as a cashier, a dental assistant, a vet assistant, electronics assembly,  a machinist in the military, picking up trash in a state park and as locksmith at a university. After teaching I worked night shift as a securety guard. Life is freaking adventure, not a locked grid you must move from one square to another. Take a chance, If you fail, get back up, dust yourself off and try something new.

Your life is not over at 25. You can continue to learn and engage with hobbies and change your life path and meet new people. Get rid of this idea that what you decide to do at 18 is gonna be what you do for life

As someone who freaks out at times about this kind of thing in my final year of university, this really helped.

It should 100% be illegal for companies to make you give them your payment information when you sign up for a free trial version of their product. It is not necessary and there is no good fucking reason for them to do it. It’s blatantly just so they can steal forgetful customers’ money.

oh hey, thanks for reminding me to cancel a free trial i had going on.

Reblog to save an unnecessary charge cause it also reminded me to cancel a trial lol

Uh oh! A Jehovah’s Witness is at my door!

A guide on what the fuck is happening and what to do about it as a never JW, from an exJW.

JW congregations have just been told to start doing door-to-door preaching (aka ‘service’/‘service work’/‘witnessing’) again this September. They stopped for the past few years due to…well. The whole state of things. But it’s starting again! Fuck!

So, to get you folks in on the Secret Inner-workings of a Cult:

  • JWs do service work mostly on Saturdays and Sundays, but any day of the week is fair game, just less of them will be out on other days. Generally it’ll be in the mornings (anywhere between 9AM to 1PM being common, my family did 10AM to noon Saturdays), but any time of day is also fair game. Evening witnessing is encouraged, to catch parts of the service area who didn’t answer during morning service, like people who were at work or asleep.
  • JWs are given ‘territories’: entire neighborhoods if they’re a majority language and can generally bet on most of the people in a given area speaking that language; SPECIFIC ADDRESSES if they belong to a smaller language demographic. These are on ‘territory cards’, which include areas to fill out once they’ve called on houses. They often pull addresses from the phone book or other such directory, pulling based on name, or get referred new addresses from neighborhood sweeps in other congregations and were told x language was being spoken, so if you get called on by someone speaking your language and wonder how they got your address, it’s because they’ve collected data already! On You!
  • On that note: JWs collect data on you! A lot of it!! Those territory cards they fill out? They can include any information they gleaned from conversation (age? gender? personal details like if you’re married, if you live with your parents, etc? what religion do you belong to? any problems in your life they can ‘help’ with? any ‘problematic’ details, like if you’re queer? all of it.); if someone was home or not (yes we can see you peeking out from behind your curtains! we looked in windows!); if the person answering the door was uninterested; if they were aggressive; if they have dogs; if we were able to leave any publications with them; the details of any conversations we had, like which topics we discussed and which seemed to interest you the most; when to call on you again. The areas to fill this in on these cards are rather small so they usually only write down the most important information, but it is the most important information for trying to indoctrinate you into a cult. DO NOT give them any personal information. It will be used against you.

So that’s the gist of it. Now, you don’t want them at your door, probably.

Please do not harass them.

I know they’re annoying. We always knew we were being annoying. They do it anyways because they think they’re helping you. They often have children with them - not only because it’s often families going preaching together, but also because it’s a well known tactic to get a softer response from people they call on, to have a child with you. Even if there are no children, please do not harass JWs - they are cult victims, and doing so will only enforce their ‘us vs them’ mentality, and discourages members from leaving. The outside world hates you so much, so how can you leave?

“But what if—“ Nope! Beyond the whole ‘don’t be fucking cruel to abuse victims’ thing, it doesn’t even work! I’ve been threatened with dogs; my mother has been threatened with machetes; others have been flashed, or physically assaulted - we still went back eventually. Usually someone else would get the assignment, and usually we’d wait a bit, but we still went back.

“Okay, but what the fuck do I do, then?”

You open the door (yes, open the door; if you ignore them they’ll return again, assuming they just missed you or you were busy), let them tell you what they’re there for, and before the conversation goes further, you simply say:

“I’m not interested. Please put me on your do not call list.”

And then you tell them goodbye. Nothing more. Don’t say you have your own religion. Don’t say you’re queer. Don’t try to use the ‘magic word’ apostate - actual former members can get harassed.

Unfortunately, despite this being the most successful and least harmful strategy, it isn’t 100% foolproof. They’re supposed to write ‘do not call’ on the territory card next to your address, but they’re human and forget sometimes (or might not mark it intentionally, though I haven’t seen that personally); the next person who gets that card might not see the mark, as well. On top of everything else, even if not forgotten, they will eventually come back. It’s policy to come by after some time to check on you, ‘just in case’: just in case you changed your mind, just in case you moved and there’s someone else there now, just in case, oh, you recently had a loved one pass away and suddenly find yourself in an emotionally vulnerable position in need of support and sympathy.

If you have the knowledge and mental/emotional energy and stability to, you can go about trying to debate them, maybe help some of them doubt, but it is no easy task and there is no guarantee of any success. It takes a lot of patience. They are undergoing some extreme brainwashing and ‘waking up’ is incredibly traumatizing, and you will face a lot of resistance in trying to deconvert any of them. Again, only attempt this if you have the energy, stability, and knowledge required - the delicacy required, too. Otherwise, remember, it’s

“I’m not interested. Please put me on your do not call list.”

Nothing more.

Oh good god it's gotten worse

Okay, so I just saw a tiktok saying "hey, ao3 is not tiktok. Do not censor words, especially in the tags." I stg people are losing brain cells. The tiktoker then proceeded to show an example of the tag they saw which was:

"s..cidal ideation"

I don't know who needs to, once again, hear this, but you are stopping the tagging system, and filtration system from working.

People censor words on platforms like tiktok to stop the algorithm from picking up their video and automatically taking it down or restricting it.

A tagging system works so that other people can easily filter the content they do and don't want to see. So if some had "suicidal ideation" in their filtered tags so that they won't see things containing that subject matter, by censoring the word suicidal, you have now stopped the tagging/filtration system from working and now the individual is going to see content that they had made sure to filter out.

Please stop censoring words and/or phrases. Especially in tags. You are literally stopping the system from working and doing its job. Ao3 (and Tumblr) is not tiktok. The tags are there for a reason. Don't censor them.

i am begging you all to stop treating this site like instagram if you dont want it to be content free by next year

For the love of whatever you believe in, reblog so people can find out new posts. Tumbrl operates by word of mouth.

seriously i want people not likes

ok, im rebloging this again because im seeing obsene amounths of people in here talking about how content creators shouldnt care about numbers and ratios and that its all about curating your blog and whatever

let me first just say that numbers have meaning beyond someone mentally relating their worth to them. to content creators numbers equal exposure. and exposure means engagment. the more engagment there is the more active you are as a creator because you get an active audience.

This is your sign to change your Harry Potter URL. This is your sign to edit your house out of your bio. Trans people are going to see you in their notifs and worry you’re a terf or block you. Edit your blog description. Come up with another handle. Thank you.

tbh they are being transphobic if they haven’t done these things. not worrying about “if” anymore, it’s on them

While I agree with the general idea, in the spirit of respecting the original intention of this post— I have had a fair number of people in the tags of this post go “oh fuck”, I have seen people edit their URLs in real time, I have seen people go “oh shit I haven’t even looked at my bio in years”. While I respect blocking on sight— it’s smart to be cautious— I would like to generally err on the side of assuming the best of my fellow human beings. This post is a courtesy call and final warning for everyone who hasn’t gotten to it yet to Do It Now.

I rarely open my actual blog page and so for a while I was unaware that I had a Harry Potter house scarf as part of the CSS thing. I’d had it in there for years and unless you open the blog in a new tab then it’s not something you really see. So yeah, it’s possible for people to not realise that there’s something they’d honestly like to remove on their blog because they just don’t see it.

Yeah, and you are Far from the only person who’s responded to this post with something of the kind. I had someone earlier who was worried about breaking their CSS and that’s why they hadn’t edited it!

That being said, it’s important to get it cleared out now, because TERFs are using that as a calling card now, and I have learned that the hard way since making this post by the TERFs who have found this post and reblogged it to tag their house and harass me. I got an anon informing me someone was going to add it to their bio to scare trans people. We’ve reached the Point here where a lot of trans people need to block on sight to protect themselves. So I can’t honestly say I’m against assuming the worst. I’d just like to warn allies that this is already happening so nobody else who’s well intentioned gets caught up in it. Nothing personal! But. Get Your Shit Sorted, Folks.

No one is fucking talking about it but another black man was killed by the same police department that killed George Floyd they killed him 9 seconds after entering his apartment. No knock warrants are fucking bullshit. He was wrapped in his blanket he was innocent they had the wrong address there is body can cottage you cannot fucking deny this bullshit.

This is being hushed up and covered up and I cannot believe it took me until TODAY, SIX DAYS AFTER IT HAPPENED to find out about it.

Everyone should be talking about this shit.

All the BLM protests and here we are again. We cannot let a single one of these slide because that's how nothing changes and that's how innocent people are being killed at the hands of assholes who are happy to pull the trigger without hesitation. I'm so fucking upset right now and so should you be.

EDIT: THE ORIGINAL POST SAID NINE MINUTES I MEANT TO SAY NINE SECONDS

Amir Locke was murdered on February 3rd of 2022, 7 DAYS AGO. He was 22 years old. The police did not have a warrant, and his name wasn't on their search list.

What was his crime? Sleeping in his cousin’s house.

He was a licensed gun owner, and when the Minneapolis police stormed the house, he grabbed his gun in reaction to protect himself. The police immediately started firing, shooting three times and murdering Amir Locke.

“His crime” was fucking SLEEPING.

Reblog this shit. Tell your friends and family. Say his fucking name. It’s been two years since the murder of George Floyd, and the same fucking police department has killed another innocent Black man.

Trans and gender nonconforming friends: This is a smear campaign in disguise targeting trans people. There is a fraudulent organization disguising as pro-trans attempting to recruit trans folks in hopes of including them in an anti trans documentary to be. This documentary is being proxy-coordinated by Matt Walsh, his crew members, and members of PragerU. If you receive a message from anyone claiming to be from the Gender Unity Project, block them immediately. Warn your friends of this set-up as well. The more people know about this scheme, the more likely it is to fail. Full information to follow:

All of you stay safe and stay alert. I’ve got your back, always.

this won’t get 1% of the women’s version of this post.

the world we live in, and people in general don’t care about men. we are pretty much robots who aren’t allowed to show emotion. we’re taught from a young age that boys don’t cry.

fact is women are sexualised, men are idealised. because men can’t be raped because they’re big and strong right? right? yea, pretty much the idiots view of living.

Always reblog

Sks support this idea or unfollow me i dont give 3 shits if i loose yall as followers, fuck off if you dont support this

I lost some bois, we got em.

(I was at 101..)

unfollow me too ://///

I’m starting to hate the world we live in.

As a sexual assault survivor, this message is more important to me than anything. Sexual assault happens to all genders, whether society wants to admit it or not. We can’t expect the world to do better if we only look at one half of the problem. We can’t be hypocritical.

Yes, 1 in 4 girls will be sexually assaulted before age 18. But 1 in 6 men will also. Yes, 20-25% of college women experience sexual assault, but 15% of college men experience it also. In the US, 1 in 3 women will experience some form of sexual violence/assault at some point in their lifetimes, but 1 in 6 men will also. (Source)

Sexual assault is NOT exclusive to women, and never will be. Support ALL victims. PERIOD.

Men can be raped.

That’s it.

Period.

There are no if, ands or buts for this.

Men can be rapes, they have been raped, it is a real fear.

Sometimes its by other men, and sometimes it’s by women.

Whatever the case it happens.

Deal with this.

I honestly don’t care if I lose followers for this. Those who think men can’t be raped, by other men or girls, aren’t people I want to risk speaking to.

I have been raped. Enough said. Fucking reblog this.

Listen up!

YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE NOT TO REBLOG THIS.

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF IT DOESN'T GO WITH YOUR BLOG'S THEME.

And yes, REBLOG. Liking does no shit at all. This isn't ig.

You reblog, people see it. You don't, people don't see it. This shit's that simple.

This could save someone's life. It's not a joke.

This isn’t some ‘oh yeah sure it could’.

This could legitimately do so.

This is good stuff to know!

for those of you not in the know, the current jeopardy champion of the past month+ is a trans woman named amy schneider. she’s already the only woman in the top five regular season earning contestants and she’s made over 600k in prize money. and she’s still going as of today.

Avatar

update: Amy is now the highest earning woman in Jeopardy history with over 800k in prize money accumulated and still going, and Jeopardy openly acknowledging this has attracted the attention of standard issue transphobes, TERFS, fascists, you name it, all descending on her. Right-wing propaganda outlets like TheBlaze and media figures like Ben Shapiro have been broadcasting this to their huge followings and attracting a bunch of hateful comments towards her. Even the previous record holder, who happily congratulated Amy on her achievement, has had to fight off transphobes in her mentions.

Her twitter account is @jeopardamy if you want to show her some love or have the mental energy to report some of the assholes harassing her. Just a warning: they’re posting truly vile things to try and punish her for her success, so know what you’re getting into.

anyways can we start recognizing adhd as an actual and serious disorder that

  • can affect on functioning in every day life so badly that it interferes with taking care of very basic human needs
  • is not 10 yrs old white boy exclusive disorder
  • is not a fake disorder created to benefit medicine companies
  • definitely should not be reduced to “kid who cant sit still and wont stop screaming” stereotypes because adhd has a whole fuckton of symptoms ranging from serious memory issues to fine motor control difficulties

ADHD is:

  • One of the most treatable “psychiatric” disorders (although it’s more accurately a neurodevelopmental disorder), with approximately 90% of patients able to find a treatment regimen that works well for them, given appropriate medical support. ADHD stimulant medications in particular (Ritalin and Adderall and their variations) are some of the most effective psychiatric medications in existence.
  • Contrary to popular opinion, extremely under diagnosed overall, particularly in populations that are not young white boys (women, adults, people of color, etc.)
  • So there are a LOT of people out there who could be helped by getting a diagnosis and treatment but are not, in part because of the negative stereotypes around ADHD and ADHD medication that are prevalent in pop culture.
  • Able to coexist with a number of other conditions or traits that may change its presentation and/or impact, including mental illnesses such as anxiety or depression and various learning disabilities but also giftedness/high intelligence.
  • In fact, in adults diagnosed for the first time, it is extremely common to have comorbidities, in large part because ADHD can be so hard to cope with.
  • Sleep disorders are also frequently comorbid with ADHD. Additionally, being poorly-rested makes ADHD symptoms worse, which makes you more likely to sleep badly. It’s a hellish merry-go-round.
  • In some cases, “twice exceptional” people (gifted + ADHD) have extra trouble getting appropriate support, because some ADHD symptoms can be masked by intelligence (for instance, if a child is bright enough to do their homework in the ten minutes between classes and master the test material by cramming the night before, they may never see the poor academic performance that might lead to testing), and because the symptoms of ADHD may also mask their giftedness - so they end up stuck in classes that are too easy for them, and therefore boring, which makes the ADHD symptoms worse. Also, people who know they are intelligent but have untreated ADHD can be really prone to some of the other psychological comorbidities, especially as they become adults, because they know what to do and how to do it and that they SHOULD do it, and they WANT to do it, but they still can’t make themselves actually do it, so they start to beat themselves up, thinking “I’m too smart to constantly be this stupid, I must just be really lazy, maybe I really DON’T care, maybe I’m just a terrible person.” Ask me how I know.
  • Can also have less-common symptoms associated with it. I actually had my hearing tested before my diagnosis because I had so much trouble following conversations if there was background noise. My hearing is fine: my issue is auditory processing. My brain just can’t focus on conversations if too much else is going on. (This also applies to following dialogue on television if there is a lot of background noise/music. I use the captions a lot.
  • In some cases, extremely disabling. Under the Americans With Disabilities Act, a disability is “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity.” A sampling of major life activities that might be substantially limited by untreated ADHD includes:
  • Managing finances (largely through impulsive spending, frequent lost items that need replacing, forgetting to pay bills, forgetting to do routine maintenance and having issues like larger repairs needed)
  • Basic self-care (remembering to take meds, go to doctor appointments, eat and drink at appropriate times, go to bed at appropriate times)
  • Employment (difficulty being on time for work or work activities, difficulty meeting deadlines, propensity to make “careless errors”, difficulty with emotional regulation)
  • Interpersonal relationships (memory problems so you never remember important dates, time issues meaning you’re late meeting them, forgetting commitments, easily distracted during conversations, impulsivity leading to interruptions/saying or doing stuff you didn’t think through, difficulty responding appropriately to social cues (through distraction/impulsivity), difficulty with emotional regulation)
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary home (forgets steps in household chores, distracted away from finishing them, loses key equipment, impulsive purchases clutter up the home, loses interest in projects and leaves them out half-done)
  • If untreated, linked to higher rates of all manner of negative outcomes when compared to similar neurotypical populations, including:
  • unemployment
  • divorce
  • substance abuse
  • injury or death in accidents, especially car accidents
  • arrest

None of this is because people with ADHD as a group are, like, bad or lazy or evil or irresponsible or don’t care. People with ADHD are just people, and exist on the same range of good, bad, and in-between that all people do. However, the parts of our brains that are meant to help us regulate our emotions, plan for the future, remember to do important things, and not act on every impulse that crosses our minds just don’t work properly. A lot of us might lean in to an airhead, spacy artistic type, class clown, or similar persona to mask our deep shame over not being able to “just” do all these basic things that other people seem to do with no trouble at all.

Additionally, even accessing ADHD treatment can be extremely challenging, because stimulant medications are controlled substances and there are so many false and damaging perceptions about the condition and medications out there. And even when you have a well-established diagnosis and are well controlled on a medication you’ve taken for years, you are never far away from potential disruptions to your treatment. I personally am a white professional with good health insurance and was able to get diagnosed and medication prescribed - which in itself is often really difficult - but even from that position of privilege I have experienced multiple gaps in my treatment for reasons like:

  • My pharmacy lost a prescription and had to get a new one. (My medication cannot be refilled; each month has to be a brand new prescription.)
  • My pharmacy was out of stock of my medication (I can’t transfer that prescription to a different pharmacy, and even if I had a paper prescription, you can’t call a pharmacy and be told the medication is in stock, you have to physically go there and ask.)
  • I forgot to make a doctor appointment in time (I have to have a doctor visit every three months to continue to get the prescription.)
  • I forgot to fill the prescription (since I, you know, HAVE ADHD, and you can’t set them up to auto-renew like you can other meds.)
  • My prescription is really expensive and there aren’t many savings options because it’s a controlled medication. (Even with savings I pay over $100 out of pocket for my ADHD meds every month. If the manufacturer isn’t offering a coupon that month it’s close to $300.)

Again, this is a LEGAL medication that I am LEGALLY prescribed by my supportive doctor with consultation from my supportive psychologist, for my actual disabling medical condition, and which all parties involved agree is extremely effective in helping me manage said condition. I’m in about the best situation you can be in short of being a millionaire who doesn’t have to worry about things like preapprovals or copays or taking sick time from work.

I’ve also heard from others who have had to change doctors due to moving, job or insurance changes, etc., only to get issues like:

  • medical practices that flatly refuse to prescribe any controlled medications at all.
  • medical practices that don’t deal with ADHD specifically at all.
  • doctors that “don’t believe in” medicating adults/women/people with good jobs/people with good grades/anyone for ADHD.
  • doctors that won’t accept existing diagnoses or treatment plans.

ADHD is a treatable and manageable condition, but it isn’t a joke, it isn’t “made up,” we aren’t “all a little ADHD these days anyway”. It’s a complex and wide-ranging condition that can impact nearly every part of your life in serious and possibly very damaging ways.

Hold on I need to schedule an appointment

OP you could’ve gone to my house and punched me in the face

Wait, sleep disorders, too?!

There’s a reason the joke goes “five out of 100 people have ADHD. One’s diagnosed, one’s getting by, one’s depressed, one’s an addict and one’s in jail”.

Seriously though, I quit binge drinking cold the week that I got properly medicated for ADHD. If you have substance use issues, gambling (including loot boxes etc), or other significant behavioural addictions, and you recognise the things described here as problems in your life, for the love of god please go get tested. Even just take a look at the Brown Adult ADD Self-Report Scale and see if it reads like a callout post.

Normalize just digging into the side of a mountain to avoid making roofs in Minecraft

yall need me to tap the sign?

here’s a roof guide that i use because i used to be shit

i dont remember the source, b/c ive had this for like years, but i suggest messing around with these roofs with different shapes/sizes of buildings

in fact, you can mix and match and have one roof with a side room with a different roof on it

honestly, have fun

I’ve had these saved for a long time and unfortunately don’t know the source either, but here are the other tutorials from this artist if anybody is interested!

In unequivocal terms, the UK is a police state. We have just lost our right to protest (if they are deemed ‘annoying’ - which will be interpreted to be any protest the government doesn’t like). This means anyone in the UK might face prison for exercising our right to protest.

Please, please I’m begging non UK folks- to simply know this.

If the right to protest was lost in the US it’d be all over the internet. But nobody is here for UK folks.

This is just as trans people and gay people and marginalised races and poor people are being hit with economic and social harm and are more likely to protest.

Know about us- make sure the UK government is shamed for what it is doing. In the meantime, the UK citizens have some violence to plan.

By the way this is still happening and will disproportionately affect Romani people and travellers. On top of this, they’re trying to make it illegal to help migrants drowning in the channel

It is not too late!! The bill goes to the House of Lords next so it hasn’t passed into law & we can still protest it!

U.K. folk- tweet & email your MP your concerns. Quakers have a good email template here: https://www.quaker.org.uk/documents/template-letter-to-mps-on-policing-bill—dec-2021

International folk- make as much noise about this as possible. PLEASE.

This bill is fascism, it is a fundamental denial of human rights on so many levels, mostly to marginalised people. Please kick up as much fuss as you can.

Here’s a source as of the 25th:

PSA regarding tumblr’s latest Censorship Nightmare

For those of you who haven’t seen this announcement, tumblr recently made some changes to the iOS version of the app, purportedly to comply with Apple’s content guidelines. These changes took effect on Dec 21, starting in version 22.5.1 of the iOS app. As some of you may recall, Apple’s strict guidelines were the driving force for the infamous Great Purge of 2018, which coincidentally also happened around this time of year, but it seems banning all of the female-presenting nipples wasn’t good enough for Apple.

Below is a summary of the important changes. Note that these changes technically ONLY affect those using the iOS app. If you’re accessing tumblr through a different app or operating system (Google Chrome, Android app, etc) it won’t affect you directly but it will affect your followers who use iOS so you should definitely be aware of it.

  • The list of banned tags has been expanded. As before, there’s no way to know which words or phrases have been banned until you try searching for them, in which case you’ll either get no search results or the following message: “This content has been hidden because of potentially suggestive or explicit content.” You may think this doesn’t concern you if you don’t post explicit material, but do not make the mistake of expecting the banned tags to be logical or reasonable. I’ve already encountered multiple completely innocuous posts (random fandom gifsets) that seem to be hidden on iOS for no discernible reason.
  • Blogs that have been flagged as explicit can no longer be viewed. Previously, flagged blogs just had their posts hidden from searches, but if you knew the username you could still visit it after clicking through a warning about sensitive content. Now you can’t access it at all.
  • Likes and reblogs from blogs that have been flagged will no longer show up in your notes. This one won’t affect most people’s user experience as much as the others, but it does mean you may be missing notes. It’s unclear if likes and reblogs from flagged blogs will still count towards the overall note total (and only be missing from the activity feed and note viewer) but I suspect that’s the case.
  • THE BIG ONE: ANY POST TAGGED WITH A BANNED TAG WILL NO LONGER SHOW UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. Previously, if you tagged a post with a banned word or phrase (even if the words were used inside another tag), that post would not show up in searches, but your followers would still be able to see it on their dashboard. Now those posts are hidden from your own followers as well. This includes both original posts and reblogs. And if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s the real kicker: even if you don’t tag something with one of the banned words, if the OP used a banned tag, any reblogs of that post will not show up on anyone’s dashboard (on the iOS app). The only saving grace here, and I hate to even call it that, is that the blocked posts are still visible if you visit a blog directly or if you have post notifications turned on.

As usual, tumblr was extremely unclear and evasive about all of this in their official announcement. Not surprising, of course, since if more people were aware of these new draconian tactics I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more of an uproar about it. Tumblr claims that these changes are somewhat temporary and that they are currently working on something that will allow for a less restricted iOS experience, but they refuse to say what that something is and when it will be implemented. And let’s just say, considering their track record, I’m not hopeful.

All of this is horrible and infuriating for many reasons, but the worst part is how insanely counterproductive it is to creating the “safe” environment tumblr (or more specifically Apple) supposedly wants.

Tags have always been used for both blog organization and filtering purposes. Tagging posts with triggers and content warnings is a common practice that gives users the ability to filter out content they may find upsetting or just don’t don’t want to see for whatever reason. By choosing to ban a bunch of unlisted “sensitive content” tags, all they’re doing is encouraging people who want to share that kind of content to come up with alternative less well-known tags or simply not tag that content at all anymore if they want it to show up on their follower’s dashboards, thereby making it more likely for someone to encounter it when they didn’t want to.

So really, with all of the alleged concern for safety and “protecting the children,” all they’ve done is make tumblr less safe for everyone. Typical.
