you ever think about how dennis rejected mac so blatantly at the end of s12 and mac was still unapologetically all over him after he came back. and how maybe instead of that just coming from a place of mac being desperate and delusional it came from knowing that somewhere deep down dennis did love him enough to come back. and how dennis wasn’t ready then but maybe he’ll be ready now? or maybe the next time? or maybe the time after that? mac kept trying and trying not out of a fantasy he projected onto dennis but because he knew that for the last 20 years him and his best friend always had this uncomfortable unspoken charge between them but they also always managed to end up on the same page. they were always on the same team. so if he just tried hard enough, if he put out a big enough safety net and showed dennis it was okay to jump, he would eventually follow. but the problem was that mac didn’t know how to show love in healthy ways that didn’t end in smothering or poisoning or embarrassing them both. because why would he? the love language between them had always been little touches and competition and codependency and mac took that and revved it up to 100. but all of it came from the intention of trying to get something to come out of dennis that he knew was already there. idk where i’m going with this post every time i think about s12-14 macden i start getting dizzy
the fact that dennis never used mac’s attraction to him as leverage like he did with the waitress in the early seasons and instead just kept trying to push him away actually says sooooo much. because why wouldn’t he???? having someone be hopelessly and unconditionally in love with him without him having to love them back or put any work into the relationship… isn’t that just the perfect situation for him? why not take advantage of every second of it? why not play along once in a while for his own gain? you’re telling me the guy who’s known for literally getting off on playing along with elaborate charades to see how far he can push himself and/or the person he’s manipulating— that guy suddenly got cold feet? that guy mysteriously and miraculously got uncomfortable with one of the most gullible and easy to manipulate people on the planet now openly showing affection toward him? why the fuck wouldn’t he indulge that????

In my feelings and thinking a lot about how young Daniel actually was when he met Louis and Armand, 20 or 21 years at the oldest. There was a lot going on during that era in the US, but the 1970s was not that long ago and early 20s was still pretty young!
Reading through the beginning of IWTV underscores just how timid, gentle, and inquisitive Daniel's character is before we meet him again in Devil's Minion. Which is also interesting considering that Devil's Minion, even as we read it on the page, is being told retroactively by a dying Daniel at 32 (meanwhile in-universe Lestat's writing it all out post-Akasha).
When thinking about Daniel with Armand, I feel like most of us, from what I have seen, understandably tend to extrapolate a lot of his personality from QotD. He's witty, sarcastic, living it up in opulence and increasingly bitter about it—lots of good stuff.
But the Daniel that Armand first met would have in all probability been very similar to this one:
So I wonder, which is closest to the version of Daniel that Armand fell in love with? Because we never got to meet that guy as Armand knew him.
