Why do I love titles so much? Posts featuring title collections keep popping up on my blog. There must be another reason than just an aesthetic one. I think it’s this: when the title screen of a movie appears, the movie has started, but at the same time it hasn’t really started yet. It’s the beginning before the beginning. In a way it’s the most exciting part of a movie.
One of my favorites is the opening to TOTAL RECALL: when the alluring, red-hued titles end (they look like stage curtains), you’re already into the film, which at its heart is an enigma, despite the visceral violence.
