This is very misleading. The problem with the Blue Pool is that you have to hike to get there and so people reach it then jump in. The water is cold at 34° F, and so you're overheating from the hike and the shock to your body from the drastic temperature change can cause some people to have the automatic gasp response, inhale a bunch of water then drown.

Mount Everest is about as physically high as a mountain is capable of getting on our planet!
this damn thing sticks a little more than 29,000 feet up into the air, and is getting a couple of inches taller every year thanks to the two tectonic plates violently smushing their faces together right beneath it, but it won't ever get significantly higher up than it is now.
(which is still Too Damn High in my opinion)

see, it's kind of weird to think about because it's literally your house, but Earth is actually the largest rocky planet in the solar system by a WIDE margin!
sure, Mars can have a 16-mile-tall volcano, but Mars is about HALF the size of our dear old mama Gaia and its gravity is scaled to match. less gravity means that mountains have less downward pressure on them and so they can grow to much greater heights!

which brings us back to our earthly neighbor, Everest!
unlike Mons up there, Mount Everest is fighting a brutal and ongoing war against the oppressive forces of Earth's gravitational pull, made even more complicated by those tectonic plates I mentioned way back at the beginning of this whole mess.
basically the breakdown of this three-way offensive is that the Indian-Australian tectonic plate is having a very slow head-on collision with the Eurasian tectonic place, shoving the Himalaya mountains (and our good ol' pal Everest) UP! but gravity is also shoving DOWN on the whole range, and past a certain point the mountains get too tall and the entire affair is just too big and heavy for the tectonic plate underneath it to hold it upright, and then the bottom of the plate starts to sink downward into the molten rock of Earth's Mantle!
think of it like stacking dogs on one of those floating pool lounge thingies- you can stack as many dogs on there as you like, but the float will just sink deeper and deeper in the water and your dog stack won't really get any higher.
though obviously, they are still all good boys.
it's like that!
so basically, Everest is about at the point where the tectonic plate beneath it is sinking at roughly the same rate the mountain is growing, so the whole thing is locked into equilibrium and will never get too much higher than it is now.

man the britney spears testimony is chilling. she can't drive, cant choose her therapist or any person around her, is forced to perform and train or she'll be put on meds and restrained at home, cant see her kids or even have a new child, was forced to get an IUD which she can't have taken out, can't even choose her own food and bedtime. it's very much institutionalisation except she still has to perform to make money for her family (the same that claim she shouldn't have autonomy over her own life) and can't even change a single dance move in her choreography. it's just. christ.
see what i mean by parents feeling ownership over their children. her parents were allowed to suspend her autonomy as an adult too.
and like. she's a rich cis white woman (though tbh she can barely touch the money she makes for her abusers)! and her disability and status is still enough to completely suspend her autonomy in the most abusive way, to even deny her the ability to have kids or refuse food. this is an absolute nightmare. imagine what it's like for institutionalised working class folks too. poor folk, people of color, trans people who also had their autonomy suspended that way and are institutionalised or under conservationship. im really glad she got this opportunity to speak, no matter how short it was. but christ is it heartbreaking.

That was the 17/06/21. I can confirm that 3 people were arrested at the protest as construction began behind the police line, for trespass (information here).
Today (18/06/2021) was quiet, however there is a lot of recovery to do. Multiple people at the protest have said that security and police used excessive force of them to keep them away from the boundary line, and Protect Putiki is calling for a formal apology.
Protect Putiki has also claimed that they, police, security and developers all heard the penguins (currently in their mating season) calling within 5m of the demolition of rocks - this would put them at immediate risk of the construction.

Local sources are claiming that police response has been so violent in particular because Winston Smith was a revolutionary and vocally anti-cop and anti-government.
Just to expand on the above linked post: The initial reporting on the assassination of Winston Smith said he was a murder suspect, then said he had a gun and fired at police, claiming there were shell casings in the car. After a couple weeks we know that he was unarmed and being targeted by a federal and local task force under suspicion of being in possession of a firearm as a felon. All officials have said there’s zero body camera footage of this event. They claim that he was in possession of a 7-shot .380 S&W handgun, which is exactly the kind of handgun that police are known to carry as “drop guns” to plant on the unarmed people they kill. The woman who was in the car with Smith and was injured when he was murdered said there was no gun in the car.
I’d also like to add on and say that the national guard is becoming a part of routine policing in the twin cities. The mayor of Minneapolis begged the Governor to give him 100 national guard to keep on “standby.” They’ve done this at least 4 times this year, to the point that they’ve set up checkpoints at the capitol and the Hennepin county courthouse, lined with razor wire traps and manned by fully-equipped national guard, completely shutting down traffic in the areas. Air National Guard drones and helicopters are being routinely deployed to spy on protests, even demonstrations not protesting police violence. The Twin Cities have crept into a bizarre kind of “soft” martial law. I’ve heard locals talking about twitter suppressing tweets about this stuff. Pay attention because this is gonna be the future of day-to-day policing in America if you don’t fight it.
