Sun-Spider, my beloved!

A disabled (EDS) queer Spiderperson who was co-created by two disabled queer artists and voiced in Across The Spider-Verse by a disabled actress (and her lines are a disability pun)! I love her!

I think one of the most profound forms of love is "I'll try that, for you. I may not like it, but I'll try it."

It's a confused middle-aged man in a pottery class, whose daughter is helping him with his clay's plasticity. It's a kid scrunching up their brow while listening to their mom's favorite music, trying to figure out why she likes it. It's a girlfriend who says "Yes, I'll go with you" and her girlfriend cheering and buying a second ticket for a con. It's a friend half dragging another friend through an aquarium, the one being dragged laughing and calling out "Wait, wait, I know we're here for the exhibit, but I haven't been here! Slow down!"

It's being willing to spend some of your time trying something new because it makes someone you love happy.

[ID: A five-panel comic of a conversation between a therapist and their client.

Panel 1: The client, sitting in a plush chair and leaning forward with hands clasped, says “So that’s how my family is. Ya know, normal stuff.”

Panel 2: The therapist, sitting in a four-legged chair in front of their desk and holding a clipboard, stares silently with a wide-eyed shocked expression.

Panel 3: A wide-panel shot with both client and therapist, with the therapist maintaining their expression and the client responding with a silent confused expression.

Panel 4: Same as panel 3, but the client is looking down thoughtfully while the therapist continues to stare.

Panel 5: The client looks back up and says “That’s not normal is it”, while the therapist says “No.” The therapist’s speech bubble slightly overlaps the client’s, as if to indicate the therapist spoke before the client finished their sentence. The therapist’s expression and pose remains unchanged.

The comic has a watermark to indicate that Shubbabang made it.

I just checked out some indie games that just came out on Xbox game pass and they're getting review bombed to hell by assholes who think they're entitled to only the biggest triple a next gen releases and have probably never played an indie game before. So please, no matter your platform, please leave reviews for indie games you like. You don't have to leave a long, thoughtful review, even just saying you liked it is helpful when paired with other people saying they liked it.

Reblog this if you didn't even know Facebook was down.

…it was…?

What do ya mean ?

When???

wait what? it was down?

Like, today?

…what?

Really?

when?

???

What??

Facebook was down???

So I think the best strat here is for the users who did get the new layout to just stop using the desktop version of the site for a while, like a week or a month or however long their 'experiment' is supposed to last, while the users who didn't get the new layout should keep using the desktop version like normal or, perhaps, use it even more than usual.

My guess is that they're doing basic A/B testing on the new layout to see if it would boost engagement: the userbase is split roughly 50/50 between the 2 versions and they are going to be comparing the engagement data between the 2 groups of users to see if it's worth it switching everyone to the new layout or not.

Basically, if you got the new layout and don't like it - don't use it. If engagement metrics of group B (new layout) are lower than those of group A (no change), the experiment will be considered a failure and they will have to reverse the change.

If your tumblr suddenly looks like twitter - it's a sign to log off and go touch some grass! (or just use the mobile app since that engagement data isn't relevant to this particular experiment)

Don't just not use it, send feedback too!

There's a "contact us" option to send feedback about features being launched. GIVE FEEDBACK IN THE APPROPRIATE SPACE!

Not to "As a professional UX researcher" on this thread, but yeah, as a professional UX researcher, now is the exact time to provide clear (but kind!! the poor UX team is usually not responsible for these decisions) feedback on what your thoughts are in regards to this change.

In my job, if I were doing an AB test on a site layout and every person I interviewed said "I hate it, it looks like knockoff twitter, please put the old one back" then I would be very excited to include a nice little bullet point in my report that says "[x] number of participants disliked the new layout :)"

Thinking about all those youtubers and streamers who generally stayed nonpolitical as not to alienate anyone but who absolutely could not handle it when that hogwarts game came out and their progressive audiences were telling them to maybe not play/review that one and they'd throw a fat tantrum like "no you don't get it it's my job this is the biggest game of the year I can't not play it" and now we're a few months along and fucking nobody is talking about it anymore cause it wasn't even good. Was it worth it

you are not a bad person because of your memory loss. you are not less intelligent because of your memory loss. you are not less caring because of your memory loss.

memory loss isn’t your fault and you don’t deserve to feel ashamed.

[ID: tags reading, "#ok but. i am genuinely less intelligent because of my memory loss. #i have lost multiple skills i had in the past and am still losing more because i cannot remember how to do them #i am losing my intelligence. i am genuinely becoming less and less able to understand language even #it shouldn't be 'youre not less intelligent' it should be 'your intelligence doesn't define your worth'". true and correct addition

i’ve seen a lot of posts talking about nimona’s queer messages which is great! but ive not seen as many posts talking analyzing how both ballister and ambrosius were changed to be asian, which is a shame because i genuinely think its one of the most important parts of the film! a huge part of it is a deconstruction of the model minority myth and respectability politics, both of which are big issues in the asian american community. both of them represent each side of the spectrum, with ambrosius expected to be superhuman with very little support and ballister being seen as less than human, no matter how hard he tries- a monster.

ambrosius (who is now east asian, like his voice actor eugene lee yang, who is korean with chinese and japanese ancestry), despite being in a seemingly powerful position as head of the knights and a descendant of gloreth, he isn’t really given the kind of support that this position needs- he’s constantly undermined and belittled by todd, the face of the other knights, and when asked about his emotional state by the director, represses his emotions rather than talk to her about his true feelings. this is very similar to how asian american students in schools aren’t given the support they need academically by teachers and administration, as the model minority myth leads to them being perceived as more intelligent and competent than their fellow students and therefore not needing support. he’s also held to a higher standard than any of the other knights, being immediately placed into a position of power despite just being knighted, again a reflection of the model minority myth, since asian americans are held to higher standards unfairly. despite being technically better off than ballister, he has no support, no friends, no way to seek help for his problems, and, just like ballister, is immediately thrown away the moment the director thinks he’s served his use.

ballister is now pakistani, like his voice actor riz ahmed (no, not like pedro pascal. where did this come from lol), and i’d go as far as to say that he is also, if not explicitly muslim, heavily muslim coded as well. he’s framed as a terrorist by the white, christian institution, and from then on, it doesn’t matter how good he tries to be- everyone else sees him as a monster. he’s also from a lower socioeconomic class than ambrosius and the rest of the knights- while this is initially used to frame him as a success story, after he’s framed, it’s used to cast suspicion on him. almost immediately he’s othered, with posters casting him as a foreign invader sent to destabilize the city, much in the same way that muslim immigrants are seen in real life. even when he tries to be peaceful and good, it’s always twisted so that he’s the monster of the story. while ambrosius is held to too high of a standard, ballister will never be enough for the institution to accept.

which is why both of their arcs culminate in them breaking out of the system, learning to accept what they’d been taught was monstrous, and leaving behind respectability. it’s a genuinely great commentary, and i can definitely see why riz ahmed and eugene lee yang were chosen for this, as they’ve both done activist work for their communities.

Folks announcing they're leaving Tumblr because they're unhappy with the Twitter clone dashboard on desktop. (I don't blame you, it's broken af.) Meanwhile, the day this hellsite finally does close, staff are going to have to pry me out of the air vents like a rabid raccoon that's adapted to survive on drinking air conditioning coolant and whatever trash is left lying around in the breakroom.
