Fyi, David Garnett is the author of Lady Into Fox. An odd but good read about a woman who turns into a fox and the attempts of her husband to nevertheless care for her.

Additionaly:
- Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic announced that all border crossings with Ukraine are currently in operation, except for the Čierna nad Tisou - Chop and Košice - Mukatschewo railway stops, where passenger traffic has been stopped.
- Civil flights Bratislava - Kyiv are temporarily suspended due to the closure of Ukraine’s airspace
- Entry into the territory of the Slovak Republic will be made possible after individual assessment also including people who will not have a valid travel document (biometric passport).
- The slovak army has set aside up to 1,500 soldiers who will help on the Slovak-Ukrainian border. The Ministry of the Interior is also ready to increase the number of border crossings by so-called hotspots.

-Villages near the Ukrainian-Slovak border are ready to help potential migrants fleeing the war in Ukraine, which was unleashed by Russia. “We could accomodate first refugees for a few hours - days, for example, in a schools gym, in a culture house, where there are bathrooms, kitchens. We could provide food in the first days, before the refugees would be moved, transferred to other accommodation facilities, ” said the mayor of Ubľa - Nadežda Sirková. She added that after a phone call with her cross-border colleague, the mayor of Veľké Berezné, where they expect the influx of migrants from the eastern part of Ukraine, several mayors of border municipalities in the district agreed to provide material assistance to their neighbors. The willingness to provide possible assistance was also shown by the border municipalities in the Sobrance district. “Our people fled towards the border when there was a war, now that they have fled here, we must also accept them,” said the mayor of Pinkovce Ján Kočiš, adding that he is ready to accommodate several refugees in his own households. reblog and put in the tags what comes up when you type "i want"
i love being op of this post bc most of the time its either "i want to scream" "i want to cry" or "i want one" (with the person then being perplexed by what "one" is referring to) but then you get shit like this
[ID: Tumblr tags reading "# i want to be a mushroom again" and "# i want to be the 8th deadly sin".]
i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies it’’s sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and i’m not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home i’m talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because it’s literally not even that difficult and it matters so much
i truly believe that knowing how to cook is a basic survival concept and the fact that so many people can’t even make simple dishes is depressing as hell this is the sorta thing that should be taught at a young age. being able to take the ingredients you have around your home and turn them into a meal is like, essential and will make life so much better. you don’t need to be a high end chef you just need to understand some things that can be easily taught… but then again maybe the education system is playing a roll against this and ultimately they want you to grow up to rely on mcdonalds for dinner. i don’t know. please learn how to cook for yourself if you’re able. i’m not asking you to hunt for specific ingredients to make some expensive youtuber’s “best” recipe but if you know the basics of cooking you can do a lot with cheap canned ingredients. cooking can be affordable i promise you just need to learn how to make do with what you can get
Can anyone point me towards resources that teach those basics cus I would LOVE to teach my child this stuff but i dont know how to cook
not comprehensive but heres some:
internet shaquille’s basics but especially:
- making rice
- making scrambled eggs
- making oatmeal
- levels of cooking meat
- using & storing vegetables with recipes in the description (this one has a bit of Sassiness directed at people who dont like vegetables but the content is solid)
food safety + a recipe to demonstrate
how to learn to cook (just a list of subtopics, no actual tips)
- freezer meals,
- weeknight meals,
- kitchen tools (although the specific suggestions are pretty expensive even with the lower end scale items the basic categories are solid, and you can evaluate what items you will realistcially need - eg. if you dont need to read temp for steaks etc the temp reader will not be relevant) &
- kitchen care (mid-high advanced home cooking)
a little more complicated, involved, and longer than any of the rest of these but good breakdown of flavor & how and why to use the basic seasoning/flavor profiles
and then recipe channels representing various cuisines:
- j. kenji lopez-alt (various)
- marion’s kitchen (southeast & east asian, western/asian fusion)
- maangchi (korean)
- future neighbor (mostly korean)
- the western supermarket playlist of chinese cooking demystified (more recipes available but these are accessible if you dont have “specialty” ingredients)
- family recipes playlist by made with lau (chinese)
- not another cooking show (various)
- cooking with boris (bear with me here i know he does it exaggeratedly humorously but a lot of them are actually solid and beginner cook friendly. mostly slavic/russian)
- you suck at cooking (also falls into the intentionally humorous category but most of the recipes are pretty solid anyway)
- how to cook that (baking, also does debunking videos of viral cooking hacks - breaks down the reasons the hacks dont work, pretty important to understand those basics imo)
- internet shaquille (various)
- babish culinary universe (various)
- i REFUSE to recommended joshua weissman because he is fucking insufferable but if you want you can try if you can deal with it, the techniques/recipes seem fine for the most part
again definitely not a comprehensive list but it touches on most of the basics
In my high school for 3 years from the age of 11-12 up to 14-15 we would have to have food technology as a part of our mandatory course, where we were taught mostly pretty average meals like a Chow mein or a toastie or like how to cook a good pasta and Bolognese. or something to make out of left over foods that wouldn’t be that expensive. It’s so strange that’s not a thing that’s just generally taught because it’s so helpful even for me now just remembering those recipes we were taught in food Tech
We haven’t talked in ages but I hope all is well ! ❤️
It’s infuriating how so many women were (and still are) discriminated against for being female
she also killed and dissected a rabbit so that her peter rabbit would be as ACCURATE as possible. all the magic of countless children’s childhoods was built upon the bones of a single bunny’s sacrifice. how delightful. how horrific. what necromancer could dream of such impact with a single stroke of their blade.
so weird how in english some words are really just used in expressions and not otherwise… like has anyone said “havoc” when not using it in the phrase “wreaking havoc”? same goes for “wreaking” actually…
reply with more, i’m fascinated

This is a comment someone appended to a photo of two men apparently having sex in a very fancy room, but it’s also kind of an amazing two-line poem? “His Wife has filled his house with chintz” is a really elegant and beautiful counterbalancing of h, f, and s sounds, and “chintz” is a perfect word choice here—sonically pleasing and good at evoking nouveau riche tackiness. And then “to keep it real I fuck him on the floor” collapses that whole mood with short percussive sounds—but it’s still a perfect iambic pentameter line, robust and a lovely obscene contrast with the chintz in the first line. Well done, tumblr user jjbang8
I hate that my aesthetic sense agrees with this but everything you just said was correct
I went back to dig up this post because I was thinking about poetry.
This is one of those non-poem things that are among my favorite poems.
As the OP stated, the use of alliterative consonants is aesthetically just great, especially the placement of the strongest use at the end: “fuck him on the floor.” The use of “chintz” is indeed great word choice.
Because I’m insane, decided to scan the poem:
Not only is the second sentence, indeed, perfect iambic pentameter, the entire poem is perfectly metered, though the first sentence has four iambs rather than five.
There are further things I love about this poem, though: I like the casual connotations of “keep it real” juxtaposed with “chintz.” It causes me to interpret the “chintz” more strongly as meaning something fake, a facade. There is also of course the coarseness of “fuck,” which is a contrast with “chintz” but a different kind of contrast, gutsy and carnal where “chintz” is flimsy and inanimate.
And then there is the storytelling: there is SO MUCH storytelling in just these two lines. To break it down: The speaker is having sex with a married man, in the house he shares with his wife, which is “filled with chintz”—something that here connotes fakeness, in contrast with “keep it real.”
The illicit encounter in the poem takes place within a house filled with facade, the flimsy construction of the wife’s marriage and domestic sphere, but the encounter itself is a taste of something “real.” That’s a story, and it’s just two lines.
This is EIGHTEEN SYLLABLES, y’all. The amount of meaning condensed into these eighteen syllables is stunning, and it is so elegantly done.
From a technical standpoint (and ive taken 300- and 400-level poetry classes so I can say this) this is damn near flawless as a poem.
Kept thinking about this ever since I saw it and had to do something
there's art now

Dr. Willie Parker, who is trained as a gynecologist and OBGYN, is a hero for the pro-choice movement because he’s honest about the undiscussed aspects of getting (or not getting) an abortion. Watch how he gives a consultation.
That last statement about regret is so important, because so many people don’t understand what it is or what causes it. Anti-choicers exploit this by manipulating pregnant people and creating doubt, which only increases the likelihood of regret, no matter what decision the pregnant person makes. You know what is best for you, even if it takes some time to figure it out.
