jaehaera is four when her uncle tells her this. she’s hoisted up in his arms, resting atop his hip with her head lowered to his shoulder as they both gaze at the tumultuous waves. a storm is brewing in the horizon, she can already smell the rain. 

“my heart is in the sea. i lost it there, and i wish it was returned to me”

his voice is firm, but the way he holds her is gentle. 

there’s a far away look in her uncle’s eye when she looks up to observe him, and his hold tightens when she tries to wriggle her way out of the embrace to touch the crashing lines closer to them. 

he doesn’t even let her dip her toe in the water, as if he were afraid of the sea taking her, too. the adults talk in hushed voices about storms and shipbreaker bay and dragons, and she pictures uncle aemond as one of the pirates from the tales in mother’s books, with his ship sunk in the depth of the ocean and a chest full of gold and jewels lost to never be seen again. 

she’s four when she figures out uncle aemond’s heart must be his treasure.

they come back to the shore a couple more of times. sometimes, grandmother and maelor accompany them, but most of the time it’s just her uncle aemond and her. it used to be like this before too, when jaehaerys was still with them, when father was never around and mother’s mind was somewhere else. it’s been a while since jaehaerys vanished, and mother’s half presence turned to be none at all. 

they come to the shore, they get close enough to the water to feel the waves coming for them and never enough to get wet. uncle aemond only says that his heart is in the water when there’s nobody else around.

The Japanese have an interesting concept of "self". Unlike in western society where self is very much independent and very limited to one individual regardless of how they connect with the society, the Japanese regard self as something interdependent and very much connected to the facets of society. That's why they have a proverb that everyone have three masks; the one you show the world, the one you show your family and closest people, and the one you never show anyone.

For Itadori, his self can be separated as "Sukuna's vessel" and "a jujutsushi". The two of his self are very much contrasting, and with them, come different treatments. His identity as Sukuna's vessel is very much inadvertent and that's what the jujutsu society regards him mainly as - and with it, comes the death penalty. Itadori himself doesn't deny this identity, as this comes as a consequence of his action, however unexpected. However, Itadori with his motivation to save people, he wants to be regarded as a proper jujutsushi, where acceptance will come to him from the group of people he know affiliated himself with. Thus, Itadori's conflict is not only directed to his outer self, but also to inside himself, where he battles to keep hold of his self as "Sukuna's vessel".

The interesting thing about Tokyo school, and what makes them a lot different from the outer jujutsu society, is reflected highly in how they accept Itadori. Itadori is accepted easily among them as fellow jujutsushi because most of the students also have complicated, rather marginalized, background - for example Maki who was discriminated by her clan, Inumaki who was considered outlaw by the jujutsu authority, and Panda who is a being not found anywhere else. They bond over the way the wider jujutsu society would rather have them away from their sight. And the gathering of outcasts in Tokyo school probably only can be possible because of Gojou's influence.

So if the wider jujutsu society focused more to Itadori's self as Sukuna's vessel, Tokyo school focused more on his identity as a the same jujutsushi. And noone is more accepting and more clear on this other than Fushiguro.

With the way he raised, Fushiguro is probably more than just familiar with the traditional way of the jujutsu society. For Fushiguro, the self that attached to him by jujutsu society is the heir of Zenin clan's inherited technique. And same as Itadori, what Fushiguro want to be regarded as is just being a normal jujutsushi. As he repeats again and again, all he wants to do is to save people, albeit in a more selfish way than Itadori, who he thought deserves to be saved.

Fushiguro chooses the people he wants to save; and among them are Itadori. Itadori sill alive and breathing is the reflection of Fushiguro's self as a jujutsushi free from the influence of jujutsu society. He saves Itadori, in contrast of how the tradition would like him to kill Itadori instead. In a way, Itadori is a reaffirmation of Fushiguro's way and self in being a jujutsushi; a very different self than how heir of Zenin's clan would be seen.

When Sukuna first incarnated, Fushiguro reacted as how any traditional jujutsushi would; to exorcise it immediately. Fortunately, Fushiguro's conscience wins and from there on, he never regards Itadori as Sukuna's vessel. Fushiguro thoughts Itadori as someone of the same age, his classmate, his friend, fellow jujutsushi, but he never regards him again as the dangerous Sukuna's vessel who he must keep his distance from. And in a way, he reaffirms Itadori's choice to be acknowledged as a jujutsushi, rather than known as Sukuna's vessel.

Even after Shibuya, even after Itadori choosing to stay away from Fushiguro because he was afraid Sukuna will take over, worried about what Sukuna might do to Fushiguro, Fushiguro still extends his hand to Itadori. He says to Itadori to save him, to lend him his power. And for a jujutsushi, whose main identity, task, and obligation can be boiled down to saving someone, for Itadori whose motivation is to save people as many as he can, there's no greater affirmation for his self as a jujutsushi than to know that his power is needed.

And so, for Itadori and Fushiguro, they are the affirmation of being "a jujutsushi" self for each other.

A lot of JoJo fans have probably seen this poster/artwork before or even have it in their homes. When most of us look at it, all we see is just Giorno standing next to Mista, while both holding two different colored ice creams, Mista talking about his and Giorno looking at him. We can all agree it's not anything to drastic or dramatic that it will actually have an emotional massage, right? But even thought it looks very simple and not too much thought of, sometimes I just want to cry from looking at it.

In the anime (I don't know about the manga because I've never read it) we saw Giorno going twice to a specific ice cream shop. We saw him going there once he was a little kid and in the beginning of the part when he bought a little kid with a yellow hoodie ice cream from there (I'm not sure if he also ate one himself but it doesn't really matter). If until he was 15 from being a little kid he still goes to the same ice cream shop just shows that he could have went there many times throughout his life until being 15 and maybe even after, that also means ice cream itself and this specific ice cream shop is a very big part of his childhood and his life.

So, what's so special about it? Well, what is special about it, or even to say, sad, is that in these two times that we saw him go to this ice cream shop, unlike most of us, who usually go to eat ice cream while hanging out with friends, we went there ALONE. As we saw in Giorno's past, his mom left him at home when was a baby and didn't really care about him, his step dad probably hated him while lashing him with a leash a lot, all the other kids in town bullied him and the police didn't really do anything about it, he was always alone, he never had any friends. Well, he did save this gangster one day who thanked him by making everyone respect him and respecting him himself, but making people respect you doesn't really make them your friend or a person you would totally trust and hang a lot with or talk to, same with this gangster. Since this gangster didn't really talk to Giorno and just went away from him to prevent him from becoming a gangster I think we can all agree he wasn't really a "friend", I mean, this "thanks" he gave him didn't really include himself becoming a partner of his or a friend, it was just "forcing" other people to like him and be his "friends" instead. Even if he and everyone else respected him, he was still lonely. He still didn't have anyone to at least go eat ice cream with him in that shop like most of us who do. He never really had any friends in his childhood.............

He joined Bruno's gang.

After Giorno's fight with Bruno, he decided to join his gang and kill the boss since they both hate drugs. We saw that he somewhat trusted Giorno but still wasn't a friend like character to him. Don't get me wrong, they had a good relationship between them, but Bruno was more of a mother character, while caring for everyone in the gang and being the "captin".

Though, when Bruno introduced Giorno to his gang, they didn't seem to trust him nor like him at all, especially Abbacchio, or be a friend to him and more of being his teammates instead because he's a part of the gang. However, that's except for one guy who started developing trust and faith in the main character already in the start of the series, and this is non other then Guido Mista.

While the first day of the gang knowing Giorno, unlike everyone else who hidden their stands from him or just didn't use them (most likely didn't trust him enough to even show them, especially Abbacchio) and didn't trust him yet, Mista ALREADY wanted to team up with him on his first ever mission and completely agreed with his plan. He even showed him his stand like it was NOTHING in the begining of their mission.

Slowly as the series went on, Mista showed more and more trust and faith and even somewhat "feelings" (most likely not romantic) for Giorno, after White Album's fight, stating that he even trusts him more then Buccallati himself! That he has known for six months this far. THAT'S INSANE!!! And after that survivng the entire journey and being the ONLY (well with Polnalereff of course) main character to be shown with Giorno IN THE LAST SCENE, which means he stayed with Giorno, and most likely even FOR Giorno untile the end. Also got to mantion, Mista has done some very friendly things with Giorno like sharing their attack at Chicolatta's fight, Mista calling out Golden Experience for Giorno when he couldn't, and cheering him on in the end of the first half of VA, and Giorno also slowly started noticing it.

What I'm trying to say is that Mista could easily be Giorno's FIRST EVER ACTUAL FRIEND or even being his ONLY ONE, also showing how much Giorno cared about him in his journey and did his best to not let him die.

With all of that, we see in the picture that Mista is most likely "hanging out" with Giorno while eating ice cream with him in most likely that specific shop Giorno always goes to. Giorno finally got a friend to go eat ice cream with! GIORNO IS NOT LONELY ANYMORE, THANKS TO MISTA!

This long explanation wasn't to make you ship Giomis/Giorno x Mista (well I personally ship it but it was still not for that purpose), it's just that realizing how lonely Giorno was in his entire life and seeing that he finally has an actual or future friend after all these years just makes me so emotional and happy!

marvel action: avengers v2 #1

OKAY LETS TALK ABOUT ALL THE REASONS WHY THE HAWKEYE TRAILOR MADE ME WANT TO THROW SOMETHING THROUGH A WINDOW

First of all, are they REALLY trying to put a Die Hard spin on MCU Hawkeye? Violence set to Christmas music and a Too Old For This Shit guy who just wants a quiet Christmas with the family he missed so much?

Second, “when I wore this suit I made a lot of enemies”. Sir, you were understandably grieving about your Shoe horned in Plot Device Family being snapped alongside literally billions of other people but instead of being a hero like Rhodey or keeping an eye on the world like Nat or even attending counseling for your goddamn issues like Steve, you took your rage out sort of exclusively on POC and brutally murdered dozens of them. “When I wore this suit”— please. You’re not batman. You’re not even deadpool. You went on a serial killer half-decade and then let one of the only people who truly loved you sacrifice herself so you could go back to your family and pretend what, that you’d been Robin Hood?

Third, after having the comedic timing and personality of a slightly damp towel for eleven movies (barring a few good moments) the trailor is tailored to make it look like he’s hilarious? Fuck off with that. Post Snap, post Ronin, post EG this should be a Clint that just wants so sit home and sit with his family and hardly ever smiles because the weight of what he’s done and what it cost breaks him down every day.

Fourth, yes I’m glad to see him wearing a hearing aid but having it arrive post Everything makes it more of a “now I’m damaged” thing and less of a “I have a disability and am still 100% more badass than you” and that’s a little bit icky. Erasing a canon disability then sprinkling it in at the end after all the character growth is done is… it’s a little bit icky. It would be different if Clint was just Clint and not Hawkeye up till now and then post EG he took the name Hawkeye as a hero and the world knows hawkeye as being HOH but this is just— like let’s come back around to the serial killer half decade?? And NOW we’re getting some canon representation? Thanks but no thanks.

Fifth, and this one is actually a good one but doesn’t overshadow any of the aforementioned grievances— I am actually VERY excited for a chance to see the Hawkeye character being awesome. The MCU barely used him at all, then ruined him to the point where I’ve actually stopped writing Renners Clint in my fics at all, and now it looks like we’ll finally get to see some of the awesome reflexes and quick thinking etc EVEN THOUGH THAT DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT THAT HE HONED THOSE SKILLS DURING THE SNAP

(And hey, don’t @ me about how he was killing like, gangsters and yakuza and all that okay? It was a vendetta, it was literal slaughter of people , it was literally him hunting down and ambushing and violently murdering them and by ‘them’ I mean EG made a point of saying the dead bodies were Mexican and then we saw him killing Japanese people right there on screen. Not that it would have been better if he was after the…idk, Italian mafia family? But it speaks VOLUMES that he apparently targeted POC as the “bad guys”)

And finally because I realize nobody signed up for this rant except maybe @xkissmeimirishx — I feel the same way about this show that I feel about all the marvel shows right now: it’s too little, too late. With the exception of WandaVision who beautifully explored the cycle of grief and literally had me crying over two characters I didn’t give a single damn about, FATWS, Loki, What If and now Hawkeye really seems like a last ditch effort of “oh shit we didn’t realize anyone would care what we did to the characters and oh shit we didn’t realize they’d pick apart our storylines as bland and uninspired, here have some character development and humour as a treat”

I’ll watch it like I’ve watched all the other ones because my sentimental heart can’t let my OG faves go quite yet but here’s to hoping the series dives into some real redemption for Clint and doesn’t just sweep the genocide under the rug

Edited to add: The Rogers Musical is mandatory though, I’d watch an entire Behind the Scenes and then Full Length Feature about that shit
