Hello!

@bluester49

H (name under construction) | 20 | They/Them | Queer Enby, Gay in every direction | I never make decisions, and when I do they're terrible Confused, anxious, and desperately trying to adult I've got a side blog or two All my posts are under #mine

my friend just told me that there's a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you've turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.

i literally love tumblr

i have a private pinned post that just has a link to this dashboard on it, it's great. two dashboards for life

wow! i was really hoping someone would organically reverse-engineer this and find that dash.

here are a few other "secret" dashboards:

these are all just taking existing feeds of content and putting them in a dashboard-like format... the "Stuff for you" tab/feed is the same idea.

Cover of Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land. I loved this book as a kid. Re-read it as an adult and… well. Let’s just say my tolerance for the blovations of rich, sexist, racist old white men has decreased a lot since I was 12.

This art is gorgeous, tho. And I still use “grok,” so I guess it wasn’t completely wasted time.

the difference between Japan and America is Japan has a rapidly aging population and a world leader who was killed by a Contraption, and America has a rapidly aging world leader and a population that keeps getting killed by Contraptions

if youre a cis girl and you get genuinely mad at jokes like 'aww shes so pretty i thought she was trans!' you have thin skin + thin brain membrane

I think one of the most frustrating things about modern conservatives is when they hate something for the wrong reason. And then you have to defend something you also hate.

"I hate Disney!" "Yes, their view on labor has been..." "Because of their woke garbage movies!" "Oh."

"I am sick of these Disney remakes!" "Yeah, it would be nice if they focused on creating original IPs instead of copy/paste remakes of animated classics." "They cast a black mermaid!" "Oh."

"Facebook is evil!" "Yeah, selling user data without consent was..." "They deleted my post about whites being replaced!" "Oh."

Yes BUT. This specific desk is in a library so a parent that needs to use a library computer can do their work and have a little ease in managing their kiddo. In a library environment this is less productivity culture bullshit and more 'oh this is a fantastic solution to a difficult situation library staff see 8 times a day'. Is it still productivity culture bullshit because this parent may not have affordable childcare or internet available to them? Yes. Am I glad it exists in a library environment to fill a demonstrated need? Hell yeah.

and keeps library staff from having to act as babysitters...

dear GOD we could use a couple of these. we keep crayons and coloring books on hand for the ones old enough for that, but the wee ones squirming and fussing in laps while the parents are fighting with job applications or convincing gmail’s current 2-step verification to let them in so they can print off a return label (both of which i have seen)? this would be SO NICE.

library groups have been loving this & are spreading the word & actively trying to purchase/create similar things in different systems

somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.

and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.

I'm not sure if it helps, but it does entertain me

the default way for things to taste is good. we know this because "tasty" means something tastes good. conversely, from the words "smelly" and "noisy" we can conclude that the default way for things to smell and sound is bad. interestingly there are no corresponding adjectives for the senses of sight and touch. the inescapable conclusion is that the most ordinary object possible is invisible and intangible, produces a hideous cacophony, smells terrible, but tastes delicious. and yet this description matches no object or phenomenon known to science or human experience. so what the fuck

its actually a shame so many people misunderstand evolution as "progression towards some thing better". what's actually going on is much more beautiful to me. its just a bunch of shit that happened because it made sense to.

creatures that live long enough to reproduce will do so because they just happened to survive better in the place where they are. there is no grand scheme or intention. just que sera sera. a story that forms on its own, a beautiful symphony of things just trying to make it out there.

since i last looked into this, the science has moved on from "most children will react badly to food dyes (not just red 40) but it most significantly messes up adhd and autistic kids" to "we're looking into the possibility that exposure to food dyes is actually causing learning disabilities in the first place"

like i said in the tags this is another example of why, when a big trendy debunk is going around that seems to go against direct observational evidence, it's worth looking into, because "sugar doesnt cause hyperactivity" was the drum to bang about ten years ago when it is plain to anyone affected by these dyes or who supervises children that are affected by them that yes, a lot of children (and adults) DO go apeshit if they drink enough hawaiian punch or eat enough swedish fish or pink cupcake icing and there is plenty of replicated in vitro human research showing as much. it's not the sugar, but candy and processed food and entertainment drinks containing these dyes can cause illness and altered behavior just like people have been observing after kids tear through a pound of assorted halloween candy. i personally had an incident on an airplane with a dose of liquid Benadryl that kept me awake for about two days when i was 4, and a a teenager noticed that drinking red gatorade would cause a weird euphoria.

anyway this is usseful info for adhd/autistic adults, people who supervise kids of any age or brain type, and in general if youre interested and able to make food choices for yourself (not everyone can obviously)

been thinking a lot about anticipatory grief lately. i love you so much that i know losing you will devastate me. i haven't lost you yet but i already miss you. we still have time, but it won't be enough. i think about what i would say at your funeral, and say some of it to you now cause i need you to know how loved you are before you go. you will go where i cannot follow, but you will never really leave me. it won't make it hurt less but it is a part of healing somehow.

this is actually abt me preparing to lose my grandma, but it can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. grief exists everywhere u look, because love exists everywhere.

Can you imagine how good life would’ve been of puppets were taken seriously as an art form like Jim Henson wanted? Even Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal weren’t allowed to really be seen as more than just kids movies because nobody can see puppetry as an art form for anyone but children.
