reminder that many children are funneled specifically to Christian families and communities for the same reasons they always have: destroy culture, stack votes, add bodies to communities that otherwise wouldn’t hold majorities. it is literal, actual trafficking.

It’s been a very rough week, and I am in need of help raising some money. I have made a previous post on the matter, but it was lengthy, poorly worded, and I made it while panicking. It’s been a few days, so I had time to calm down and collect my thoughts and focus on what I need now.

Long story short, I just spent my entire savings on saving our house, helping my mom catch up on bills and rent. We’re still behind, but we’re in a much better position than we were before. Earlier in the week my mom’s car broke down, and it’s kaput. She needs a new car. I’ve been driving her to work, but my car was borrowed from my dad, who, turns out, is also at risk of losing his house. Literally the day after I spent all of my savings, he called me and said he wants my car back for resale, and after explaining my situation to him, he has given me a few more months to save enough money to get a new car. So the one car my mom and I have between each other is also going to be taken away soon. There is no possible way for us to walk to work, as our jobs are out of town, and we live in the USA where public transit is nonexistent.

So here’s what I need:

My goal is to raise $5000 USD by October 1st. If the goal isn’t met, I could extend that to November 1st. Any later though, I may not be able to extend any more. This money will go to getting a new car. I work part-time and make little more than $1000 a month, and I need to pay bills on the side, so I would be heavily relying on you guys to help me. how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)

there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~

I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:

the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog! 

caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks. 

if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else

if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims) 

url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first

I feel like a lot of people in the notes don’t really understand this fully.

As a Hawaii resident, and someone who saw this headline and the many others from this same news source, this rubs me the wrong way a bit.

This tweet isn’t necessary wrong, but it’s worded in a way to prioritize outrage, which as I understand it is how Twitter works.

The point is that yes, Hawaii has a problem with the prioritization of tourism, which takes resources away from residents.

But with this particular headline, it’s framing the issue kind of misleadingly.

These tourists are being kicked out so residents have the room and resources to recoup. They’re being moved to Oahu because that’s where the main international airport is, so it’ll be easier for them to leave when there are flights available.

They’re not being given luxury accommodations and allowed to live out their original vacation plans while residents have to just sit in the charred wreckage of their homes. They’re getting kicked the fuck out, as they should be in this situation.

There are resources available for Maui residents right now, including shelters and organizations collecting money specifically for community needs. (Source, source 2, both from the same news outlet that this headline is from)

So, again, it’s like kicking out house guests from your party when you need to deal with a sudden house fire.

Now, what you CAN be outraged about is the need to spend this amount of time and money kicking out house guests from a party during an emergency in addition to saving yourself and loved ones at all, BECAUSE THOSE AREN’T INVITED GUESTS

-they just showed up and started hanging out in your house and eating your food. Sometimes they leave money but usually they just leave trash

-your local HOA has seen this and looooves it because actually they’re getting lots of money out of it, so they start catering towards your uninvited guests and handing out invitations to your awesome house party. Which you didn’t plan or want and would like to stop

-your house is a permanent party house and you can’t even get to work or a quiet minute to yourself

-and now it’s on fire

The point is that, even though these resources need to be used to get tourists out for legitimate reasons right now, a disaster like this in most other states would likely not include a headline about how moving visitors out of the area is a needed priority. (Bc there wouldn’t be as many proportional to the population, except for other obvious tourist-y cities.)

And while there are shelters and other resources for residents right now, by necessity some of those resources are going to tourists, because that’s how things are here.

I’ve seen some people who seem to think that the news agency who wrote the headline is biased or that it’s a wording/framing issue, which I don’t think is the main point here.

I just felt this tweet was more focused on making people angry than actually providing information, although I’m not on Twitter so who knows, maybe there’s a whole thread diving deeper into the issue. But for tumblr, here’s a little more of the story.

Tl;dr: This is a tweet with limited context if you haven’t been following the story; this isn’t a case of tourists taking 100% of the resources leaving none for residents, they are being kicked out so residents can recover. But this extra step would be unnecessary if Hawaii wasn’t so commercialized.
