The Sun rises over Earth in a postcard illustrated by Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, recalling the 1965 mission when he became the first human to walk in space.

Alexei Leonov was a prolific and talented artist, and drew and painted many pictures inspired by his experiences in space

This particular picture is rather special though, because he drew the first draft for it while in space using coloured pencils he took with him:

The first walk in space coincided with the first art in space. Humans literally can’t not do art

my dude Alexei made some insanely cool space art

As I pulled myself back toward the airlock, I heard Pasha talking to me: “It’s time to come back in.” I realized I had been floating free in space for over 10 minutes. In that moment my mind flickered back for a second to my childhood, to my mother opening the window at home and calling to me as I played outside with my friends, “Lyosha, it’s time to come inside now.”

Hello! I'm going to teach you how to get whatever cursor you want.

First, figure out what you want as a cursor. I'm going to be changing mine to a Skyrim mouse.

So first you get a picture of whatever you want, as clean as possible:

Open your favorite art program and clean it up, then save as a png:

Then go here and convert it to a .cur file. Make sure there's no gap between the corner of the arrow and the corner of the png.

Next you go to Control Panel:

Select Mouse from the list:

Then go to the Pointers tab and pick whichever mouse cursor you want to replace.

Click "Browse..." and find the .cur file you made earlier:

And voila! I now have a Skyrim cursor.

You may have to tinker with the size a bit to get the point to be accurate. If that happens, just resize your png and convert to .cur again.

Happy customization!

it REALLY annoys me these days when they show those simple, garishly painted versions of old marble statues and claim that the statues looked like that. like yeah, they were painted, we can find bits of color in various locations, so we know very roughly the color of various locations, but i dont think theres any more reason to believe they were painted in these flat (and matte!) colors than in more detail. like yes, we dont know what that detail was, but that doesnt make the flat version *more plausible*, i dont think you should have like, a stronger prior that they were flat than that they were detailed. these were expensive statues!

I remember it being pointed out once that we can only tell the base color that first touched the statue, not any additional shading, and the recreations are typically made by people who aren't artists; they're archeologists and anthropologists.

If you've ever seen how people paint, like dnd figures, it becomes very clear that bases don't tell the whole story:

Do you really think that people who could sculpt like the left painted like the right

This statue was recovered from Herculaneum - it had been buried under ash, perfectly preserved. Note that it is painted, but in a very delicate way. Nothing garish, and they used to natural luster of the marble as flesh tone.

Of course, it’s not just the 10th Anniversary of Gravity Falls – it’s Stan and Ford’s birthday, as well! Despite that other project monopolizing my time, I didn’t want to miss doing a piece for this occasion.   So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our favorite grunkles!  Here, a return to Glass Shard Beach; and wearing their kid outfits, for good measure.
