Seven/Raffi for the win!
I’m mrs_javert over on ao3 and part of the online ‘Voyager rewatch gang’ with fellow ao3-ers Troodster1972 & PetitePhilomath :)

Should we keep quiet about things we hate in fandom?

So, I recently saw this tweet from Star Trek: Picard season 2 and 3 showrunner Terry Matalas, and it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Matalas posted a two part meme of a woman sitting in what looked like a pew talking to someone off screen in two screencaps. The caption of the first screencap read: "You think it's okay to hate things. It's not. It's boring." The caption of the second screencap, focused on the woman's face, read: "Talk about what you love, and keep quiet about what you don't." In a tweet made an hour later, Mr. Matalas posted, "What's funny is, I didn't even post this in regards to Trek. But wow, do the responses show that I should have." [photo below, not described since description is above.]

The irony here is that Mr. Matalas himself is so thin skinned that between seasons 2 and 3 of Star Trek Picard, he blocked people who were curious to know what was going to happen to the existing cast. We fought for something we loved and were largely ignored when the characters we loved were written out. This screenshot had to be taken from my main Twitter, because he has my fandom twitter blocked.

While I think fandom should definitely be diplomatic about it as much as possible, I fully disagree with Mr. Matalas' statement here. I also think it shows how thin-skinned and also narrow-minded he is with his vision for Trek. Now, maybe I interpreted him wrong-- but takes like this are just . . . mind blowing to me. I'm all for letting people like what they like, but this is another level

Very nicely worded… now for my version.

No we should not sit quietly back and be good and shut up when we have a homophobic prick running an important section of Star Trek who blocks queer fans for simply daring to ask about Seven and Raffi, who deletes a beautiful forward thinking positive long term queer relationship and who might well be running a chunk of Trek for some time for come.

I am so sorry** Mr Matalas if the existence of queer people, fans and characters offends you but have you ever stopped to consider that the problem may actually be YOU sir and not US?

If people can yell and scream about the Harry Potter woman then yes Trek fans can make their voices heard about Trek’s prejudicial showrunner.

Honestly, the cult of personality that has sprung up around this guy is disturbing.

** actually not sorry at all

A recent Seven/Raffi commission for @theofficeghey <3 thanks again!

[Image ID: a digital painting of Raffi Musiker and Seven of Nine from Star Trek Picard. They are shown from the waist up. Raffi is slightly behind Seven with her arms wrapped around Seven's arm. Her chin is resting on Seven's shoulder and they are smiling at each other. Seven's implant covered hand is resting on Raffi's in a gentle caress. The background is slight purple and blue. End ID]

Star Trek Picard season 2 I love you, you are my Star Trek happy place and always will be ❤️ (despite it being obvious where everything was sadly headed).

You had the right mix of the motley crew chaos, a threat to be resolved, fun feels and Saffi.

Please come back.

There has been no new episode of Star Trek Picard this week.

…and thank fuck for that! ✅

Something not a lot of people are talking about is how disrespectful and insulting Season 3 (and Season 2 as well, let's be honest) of Picard is to the viewers who actually liked Season 1. How this show was such a dishonest fucking bait-and-switch. The way S2 unceremoniously dumped the orginal cast, either killing them off ignominiously or straight up firing the actors.

"Well, duh. The show is titled Star Trek: Picard, not Star Trek: Sirena"

Perhaps an argument could be made, but if you were me and meticulously following any and all news of this brand new shiny show that Santiago Cabrera was going to star in back in 2019, you would have noticed that they consistently marketed it as a new, fresh chapter in Picard's life with Patrick Stewart insisting that it had to be something new and different and not a TNG 2.0. All the interviews and cons the cast appeared in repeatedly assured us that this was not a Star Trek: TNG, Electric Boogaloo, but a different show with a different tone and a different Picard and a different crew. That was the idea they marketed us. That was the story they sold us. That was what compelled me to tune in to this show.

And what did this show end up being after Season 1? A fucking Star Trek: TNG, Electric Boogaloo

Fuck the writers. Fuck the producers. Fuck everybody involved in this decision

I literally live in fear that Paramount will find the flimsiest reason to shove Seven back into the closet and knowing that a not insignificant part of this webbed site ships Seven/Shaw is making me lose all of my remaining marbles

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP I CAN'T HEAR YOU THIS IS LITERALLY THE BAD PLACE RN

A huge reminder that is so vital it requires all caps… you have been warned.

TWITTER IS NOT CANON.

M’TALAS’ STUPID TWITTER BACK-PEDALLING IS NOT CANON AND THEREFORE JERI’S “THEY AREN’T CURRENTLY A COUPLE” IS NOT CANON EITHER BECAUSE NOTHING, NOTHING, HAPPENED ON SCREEN IN THAT FIANLE TO SAY THEY HADN’T GOT BACK TOGETHER.

Okay all caps over… I shall do penance later for that.

But that finale showed me a happy, healthy, queer couple on their starship doing their jobs professionally and that is exactly what I chose to believe because it is exactly what I saw.

Also No Man’s Land (remember that?), remember Raffi said words to the effect of “Making it work with a fellow officer… now that’s the hard part”. Do Seven and Raffi strike you as people to shy away from something difficult?

They are absolutely together, just doing their jobs on duty like the pros they are ✅

Now shut the door on the your way out please Ms Ryan 😉
