I love that Toga’s deal is slowly becoming more and more clear. So Toga can fully become only like those she TRULY WANTS TO BE LIKE. It has nothing to do with love. It’s why she can’t fully become Dabi and Shigaraki. Because she doesn’t actually wanna be like them.
Why would she? They had messed up lives and even now, they’re getting more and more messed up. Toga doesn’t want that. So her quirk won’t allow her to fully become them. Admiration mixed with envy. That’s the condition Tsuyu spoke about.
It’s why she was able to fully become Ochako. She truly admired her, is envious of her and wants to be her. She doesn’t want to fully be like Jin. She doesn’t want to die. And Toga right now is having a crisis. She’s feeling lost and questioning her own idea of love.
She’s confused and upset. What is it that she feels? Is it not love after all? Has her whole life been a lie? And this is where Ochako will come through. Because she’s had this dilemma too. And she’s got it figured out. That’s why she wanted to chat about “romance” with Toga.

Izuku is very similar to Ochako but is taken much more seriously ...And he's never told his actions are "just for a boy". Like she always gets told. Every time she tries to be a hero, her actions get tied to IZUKU. And she didn't wanna start resenting him. Whatever feelings she’s dealing with, she called them torture and has been trying to desperately run away from them. Doesn’t sound like love to me. Especially since Ochako is a character who LOVES TO LOVE!!!! So to have her heroic actions stripped down to a measly crush.. that must feel awful. I wonder if Mina will pop up behind Kirishima in the next chapter.. maybe Hori is setting her up to be there when Ochako once and for all dismisses her “crush” and explains what it truly is.
Ironically enough.. Ochako's actions really aren't for a boy. But Izuku's are. I mean for fcks sake he got OFA in the first place cause of a boy. He triggered quirks cause of a boy. He loses control of his heart cause of a boy and yet Ochako gets accused of all these things eventho she would have done these things for ANYONE. That’s her story. She wants to make PEOPLE happy. She wants to put a smile on PEOPLE’S faces. She wants to save HEROES when they’re in need of saving.
Bkdk is a story of MUTUAL love.. and Ochako and Toga is a story of SELF love. Accepting someone else, and accepting YOURSELF. Both beautiful messages.
Anyways the envy theory is very long so if you wanna fully read it, the links are up there. I went into more details in a YouTube video but the Twitter thread is also fine. Moving on with this analysis…
So to explain Toga better, let’s say Izuku has Toga’s quirk. He wouldn’t be able to fully become Katsuki. Izuku loves Katsuki. Imitates his flaws SUBCONSCIOUSLY! But he DOESN’T WANNA BE LIKE HIM! That’s how Toga operates too. Toga’s whole story is one of SELF LOVE.
She is never been accepted for who SHE is.. never been LOVED for who she is.. so she tries to become people who are loved by everyone. People she greatly admires cause then.. she’ll be loved too right? She has to be accepted by someone and learn to love HERSELF AS HERSELF. Again, this is where Ochako will come in.
The word LOVE, was put in quote marks. Because it’s not actually love. It’s admiration.. envy.. call it however you want. I’ve made multiple theories on this before. And it’s fun to see them slowly come true!
Isn’t this what Ochako did too? She suppressed herself, thought she wasn’t good enough on her own and attempted to follow Izuku’s path instead and become like him? This is so well executed while subverting the “main girl love interest” trope at the same.
Cause Hori made it seem like the feelings Ochako is suppressing are romantic feelings for Izuku when that’s not at all what it was. It’s why Ochako’s PoV regarding those feelings has always been gone and we’d always see only her face expression or vague language about A feeling. Never spelled out. Never explained.
It’s why people like Mina who are not at all a reliable source have always been the ones insisting on her romantic feelings. It’s why Ochako always has sort of a pan expression whenever Toga was talking about suppressing FEELINGS..
They both suppressed their true selves in an attempt to become someone else and it almost destroyed both of them. Toga is just an exaggerated version of Ochako because of her quirk. This is also the biggest cause of misunderstandings between Ochako and Toga.
Because they both assumed the whole thing was about romantic love much like majority of the fandom and now it’s starting to show that it’s never been about that. I think Ochako is still in the process of realising it too.
Because what Ochako was probably talking about was shutting away negative emotions.. but what Toga is dealing with.. was suppressing her nature which is what Ochako struggled with at the start but she’s gotten over this. There was a misunderstanding here.
Toga has to do what Ochako HAS ALREADY DONE.
Which is accept herself, love herself and be accepted and seen by HEROES the way Ochako was after her speech.
It’s why she’s blushing at Iida’s words. It’s the first time someone is talking about HER actions instead of Izuku’s or someone else’s. SHE was the talk of the town.
This is the same thing Toga wants. And she thought Ochako was similar to her so perhaps.. she’s gonna be the one to finally accept her.
And so once she realised “oh.. we’re not actually the same..” it broke her heart. But they are. In a way they are.. and Ochako will have to prove it to her and use her own experiences to get her to realise that and be the first hero to see her and accept her.
"I’ve always loved seeing people happy" being a reoccurring quote that comes up in Ochako's arc is like "Control your heart" that keeps coming up in Izuku's.
One is general about heroism and one is personal.. ALWAYS about a boy. Ironically, the one about a boy isn't Ochako's.
This is brilliant cause a lot of people switch them. They think Izuku's arc is general about heroism and Ochako's is about a boy but it's ACTUALLY THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Izuku can't control his heart because of ONE boy. And this is a running theme.
Hori you genius.
They BOTH happened THREE times by now and neither was resolved. So no. Izuku’s arc of controlling his heart hasn’t been resolved yet like many people believe. Surely not by MIRIO of all people.
Mirio had to tell him TO NOT GIVE UP!! He said “don’t give up cause Edgeshot is trying to save Katsuki’s life!” So Izuku was forced to yet again sweep his feelings under a rug and it’ll catch up to him eventually.
Katsuki is the reason this keeps happening and he’s one person that hasn’t witnessed it yet. Because HE is the solution.
“Control your heart” storyline ending without Katsuki getting involved finally to soothe Izuku’s heart once and for all would be the same as Ochako’s “I love seeing peoples happy faces” arc ending without her saving Toga.
