happy disability pride month to people with terminal illnesses

happy disability pride month to people who don't know how much longer they're going to live, whose bodies are dominos

happy disability pride month to people who feel guilty every time they talk about their illness around people they know, who feel guilty about having relationships and friends, who feel guilty about experiencing symptoms in front of people, who feel guilty about always experiencing "scary" symptoms around people, to people who spiral at night or just when they're alone, especially to people who are alone, especially to people who can't go out because of covid or because they're bedbound or housebound, to people who are always asleep because they have no choice, to people whose experience gets trigger tagged so people who don't have it don't have to see it

i love you. please be gentle with yourself

posted an update on the fundraiser with the news from today. please share if you can.

i don’t have the mental energy to do any readings today but if anyone wants to purchase one to help, i’ll get to it as soon as i can — which will most likely be thursday to be honest.

The narrative that “you should care about disabled people because one day that’ll be you” is ableist in and of itself.

You should care about disabled people because you should care about the disenfranchisement of a marginalized community.

Becoming disabled is not a punishment. Becoming disabled is not a threat. Becoming disabled is not cosmic retaliation for being ableist. Becoming disabled is morally neutral.

trigger warning for cancer!!

just got off the phone with my dad and my corgi, macy, does have bladder cancer. the vets have been taking their time trying to figure out everything but they finally got back to my dad today to tell him the news. we have 3 options for treatment and none of them are cheap. i hate to do this but i’m in the process of moving 2 more hours away from my family and i want to help them out as much as i can while also not having to ask them for money.

i’m not asking for donations, i’m really not, i sell divination readings so if you’d like to help my parents, myself, and most importantly — macy, please consider buying a reading from me! i have p*yp*l, v*nmo, c*sh*pp, ko-fi, and z*lle ((message me for that))

i’m more than willing to offer multiple readings for a lower price, i’m just desperate to help my parents and my dog. we have 4 dogs in total so having to spend a lot on macy is going to cause issues for everyone in the house so please, please consider sharing this post so people can potentially buy a reading from me.

this is a post that no one ever wants to make but here are some silly pictures of macy begging for my siblings food!!

we scheduled an appointment with the specialist for monday so literally anything helps. please keep sharing! i’ll be going home on saturday to help but i’ll be sure to bring some divination supplies with me to continue doing readings.

Here's your daily reminder that T*RF rhetoric and propaganda encourages policing the body and actions of ALL WOMEN including non-trans women who are:
-POC (because society pushes a white = feminine narrative)
-wlw
-tall
- poor/middle class
- born with features deemed too masculine like noticeable veins, large hands, etc.
- butch lesbians
- like video games, horror or hobbies society says are for boys
- have short hair
- cancer patients (who happen to have no hair) or recovering cancer patients whose hair is very short
- recovering cancer patients who had to have their breasts removed
- child-free women
- women who wish to but can't have children
- women who want/need to get an abortion
- women who've had their uterus removed or need to get it removed for their health
- survivors of domestic violence
- women who are atheists or non-religious
- rape victims
- children
- athletic women/minors
- elderly and are in the process of having their femininity stripped from them
- exploring who they are
- and more!

Anti-trans rhetoric encourages the policing of bodies and ALL WOMEN regardless of status receive the fall out because the policing of trans bodies = the policing of women!

The only ones that benefit are the very misogynistic white men who uphold the patriarchy because anti-trans rhetoric is eugenics!

Happy disability pride month to disabled people who even other disabled people can't seem to be normal about in particular.

Happy disability pride month to people with paralytic disorders, people with moderate to severe brain damage and people with IDs.

Happy disability pride month to people with facial and limb differences, people with congenital deformities and people with extensive scarring.

Happy disability pride month to people who experience incontinence, people who drool, people with colostomy bags, people with feeding tubes and people with ventilation machines.

Happy disability pride month to people who struggle to or cannot bathe or keep their home clean, people who are fat either because of their disability or not, people who rely on takeout and pre-packaged meals, people who can't exercise, people who smoke, drink or take drugs and people who aren't "doing everything they can" when it comes to managing their disability.

Happy disability pride month to schizospec people, people who experience psychosis, people with stigmatised personality disorders and other widely misunderstood, misrepresented or unknown mental health disorders.

You're all amazing and I'm proud of you even if you're struggling to be proud of yourself. You deserve to be represented, heard and treated with respect. You deserve to be included in discussions about disability just as much as everyone else.

Hello everyone, I really didn’t want to have to do this again but my new job gave me the run-around for 3 weeks so I ran out of options, I have a job, I’ll start this thursday but things are still pretty dire in the meantime, after this I should be able to handle everything on my own no problem thanks to this new job, I just need enough help to get there, any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

‼️please help me get a wheelchair‼️

hello, my name is leo, or more commonly known as ‘lav’ on here.

i’ve been dealing with debilitating chronic pain for over 10 years and i really need a wheelchair. i haven’t gotten much help from my healthcare system, being fat and afab has really fucked me over while trying to seek medical attention..

i am still fighting to completely figure out what’s wrong with me, but for now i know that i have several bulging discs in my lower back, as well as scoliosis. (as well as medically recognised POTS).

my pain is getting worse and worse, and i barely leave my home since walking and being upright in general hurts so much. a wheelchair would improve my life immensely, both physically and mentally.

i am currently on disability benefits, which pretty much is the lowest income group in sweden, and saving up for a wheelchair myself would take a very long time.. i will of course also be saving up as much as i can and putting into an account meant for wheelchair funds.

so i’m asking you to donate if you want to and if you are financially able to, and if not, please reblog this.

i have found a good chair that is also accessible to a fat person, and i need 7111 SEK (around 650$) to cover the cost of the chair & the shipping. i have started a gofundme that i’ll be sharing in this post, and i welcome all help, donating just a little helps, and reblogging and sharing the gofundme in general helps immensely too.

thank you so much for reading💜

hello friends, it’s disability pride month and if you feel like supporting a neurodivergent & physically disabled person, im sharing my disability related amazon wish list. i am poor and generally bad with money due to disabilities so i would really appreciate it if you could at least reblog this post 💜

please only help out if you’re financially able to, don’t feel any pressure to help out by buying something. reblogging helps too💜

thank you💜

happy disability wrath month to my fellow physically disabled people ^_^ !! to those of you that use mobility aids, to those of you that are invisibly disabled, to those of you who struggle with chronic illness or chronic pain, to ambulatory wheelchair users, to those of you who need a mobility aid but cant get one yet. i see you 🧡 !! i hope this month things are just a little bit better for you. i hope people listen to you more than usual. i hope people respect your boundaries and your needs !! i hope you know you are loved and wanted, even if that love has to come from fellow physically disabled people like me online.

[do not derail this post to make it about neurodivergency, thank you !!]

Sânziene - the Summer Fairies

Each year, on the 24th of June, Romanians celebrate the pagan holiday of Sanziene. Along with the Fates, Sanzienele are part of the big and charming family of Iele - gracious fairies with magical powers. Unlike the most of Iele, Sanzienele are always good and kind to humans. It is said that on the night before their day, they use to fly over meadows, smelling and touching the wildflowers, enriching them with special healing properties. Sanziene is also the Romanian name of a wild yellow flower, commonly known as the Lady's bedstraw, frequently used in ancient healing potions. So, the 24th of June is the perfect day for collecting this flower, along with other local medicinal plants. Moreover, on Sanziene’s Eve, it is said that they bless the animals and the fountains, strengthen the marriages, heal people of different diseases and then like to dance and sing until dawn

Happy Pride Month!! We need help with food and transportation!!!

My partner and I are multiply disabled lesbians of color who are out of work and need consistent support during this recovery period in our lives!!

$235 would cover enough for basic groceries and a meal as we haven't eaten much over the past two days. The majority of our funds have gone to bills, medicine and transportation which has drained both our accounts. My gf (@800-dick-pics) is doing unpaid caregiving and needs to travel to take care elders in their family, which will be happening for the foreseeable future.

Anything helps, we appreciate this community care and any support we have been given ❤❤❤

Sources about the origin of Aphrodite

I will keep adding to this post (by re-blogging) each time I have something new.

I thank @junkblog101 for giving the following sources:

2) Book “Transformation of a goddess : Ishtar, Astarte, Aphrodite”: https://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/10648962

3) Short description of Aphrodite/Venus figurines by the Museum of Art and Archeology: https://maa.missouri.edu/media-gallery/detail/71/322

4) A small pdf, part of a book, “The Olympian goddesses”: http://people.uncw.edu/deagona/MYTH/OlympianGodesses.pdf

My thoughts:

From those sources I have understood that there are some common elements between Aphrodite and eastern goddesses of love, but Aphrodite’s origin is still obscure.

I quote from the first: ”These divinities were associated with power, fertility, and war, and were characterized by fierce jealousy and aggressive sexuality” (For the Aphrodite figurine) “The nudity and breast-holding gesture are typical of much earlier Near Eastern figures, and make clear the importance that was ascribed to fertility and sexuality.” Also, “[Goddess Hathor’s] presence on this head (of an Aphrodite sculpture) again testifies to the Near Eastern elements that contributed to Aphrodite’s identity at Cyprus.” The last one puzzles me a little. I haven’t read it was common for gods to have other gods in their crowns. Maybe it wasn’t the goddess Hathor but Eastern people who dressed in a similar manner as this goddess?

So, their common elements were: sexuality, power, fertility, war (not so much for Aphrodite, though), nudity and breast-holding gesture. Well, those are similarities, but at the same time they don’t say much. While they clearly show some influence (nothing existed in a vacuum), they are not much, or enough to suggest the one came from the other. Influenced, would be a better word. Also, Ishtar/Astarte and Aphrodite have different “dynamics” as goddesses and different stories. I am not aware of any common stories between them (inform me if you know any, please!).

I can’t comment for the book, since I haven’t read it yet.

I don’t think the third link gives information about Eastern influence. It just states it. And while I would love to take their word for that, I would love more to have them say why or how this connection exists between the goddesses.

For the last link (and pdf) the things that I found in relation to eastern goddesses are these: “As a divine being, Aphrodite had close links with the Semetic goddess of love, Ishtar/Astarte, who was worshiped in Mesopotamia and Phoenicia. Aphrodite often bore the title “Heavenly” (Urania), while Astarte was invoked as the Queen of Heaven; and both goddesses were honored with incense altars and sacrifices of doves. Sacred prostitution, one of the best publicized aspects of the cult of Ishtar/Astarte, was also to be found in some of the centers of Aphrodite’s worship”. (Historical example of an athlete who dedicated women as prostitutes to an Aphrodite’s temple follows).

Moreover: “The Herodotus’ statement that the oldest cults of Aphrodite in Greece had been established in Phoenician settlers may contain a broader element of truth. The goddess had very strong associations with the island of Cyprus […]. And from the time of Homer onwards the epithet most commonly applied to her was ‘Cypris’, or ‘the Cyprian’. It is possible that she started life as a local Cyprian love goddess who took on some of Astarte’s characteristics when the island was colonized by the Phoenicians in the ninth century BC.[…] The reconstruction is speculative, however, for the picture of the goddess’s early development is still very unclear”.

Well, from what I gather from the last source, we know nothing for sure. If anything, the text actually suggests (with caution) that Aphrodite was a local Greek goddess and then she was influenced by cults of eastern love goddesses. And we are not sure of it either.

Why I am saying she was Greek when they say “local”? Greeks (Mycyneans) were already in Cyprus from 14th CBC*. (We are talking about Pre-historic Greeks and they lived in one of the periods of the Greek culture. Greek doesn’t necessarily mean classical Athens). As trade was happening, there were cultural exchanges between the East and the island. So again, because she was made in Greece (according to the last source), we shouldn’t say that there wasn’t any influence. There probably was. Also, people existed in the island before the Greeks came, so perhaps it was they who made the early form of the goddess. But in the Geometric era (see the Homeric epics and hymn) the goddess had already a Greek name and came from Greek gods. So,  if she came from residents of the island at all, she probably came from the Greeks.

*-Thomas, Carol G. and Conant, Craig: The Trojan War, pages 121–122. Greenwood Publishing Group, 2005. - A.D. Lacy. Greek Pottery in the Bronze Age

About Aphrodite’s identity as a Greek goddess:

Now if we accept she was indeed taken (for the argument’s sake) she is still distinctly Greek. She was already part of the pantheon in the Geometric era, when the Homeric epics and hymns were written, because she is in them. Her transition period could have been in 9th-8th centuries BC and maybe a little later. Until 381AC, when Greek polytheists started getting prosecuted, the Greeks had more than a millennia to make her a Greek goddess and give her her unique attributes and stories. For more than a thousand years Aphrodite has been into Greek/Hellenic households.

I am not saying the case of Aphrodite is closed because four sources are on the table. And I still haven’t read the book (2nd link)! I am sure there will be more good info there. So the picture is not completed.

Anyone who has found additional sources, pm me or tag me! And if you have something to say about the post, feel free to reblog and add stuff! Perhaps correct me even.

More information about Aphrodite’s origins:

Here is a reblogging from @alatismeni-theitsa’s old post to providing some more information and clarity about the goddess Aphrodite (and many Near Eastern love goddesses of love as well, since the personification of love is a universal human concept and can found through many cultures around the world.) Since this is one of the oldest posts that Theitsa herself had discussed the goddess Aphrodite, I am not so sure if she had any additional information about the goddess since then, but anyway, everyone here is my own very long take of it:

I think it is true to say Aphrodite is one of the most complex deities/forces of divinities and one of the multi-faceted beings within the Olympian pantheon of Greek mythology; and it is true to say that she seemed to be a product of complex cultural exchanges and syncretism between the local native Ancient Cypriots, the Ancient Greeks of the West and the Ancient Near-East civilizations as well. While there are some attributes that we founded in there that might be attributed to deities such as Ishtar and Astarte, there also had been records of aniconic object worshipping (without figurative representation) and the foundings of phallus-headed and bird-headed goddesses (that either might have been represented sexuality, birth-giving women and the association with fertility to the barren earth, etc.) dated back from 3000 BC to 1200 BC, long before the arrival of the Bronze Age settlers from Anatolia and the Mycenaean Greeks from Crete in Cyprus in 1300 BC.

A lot of them might had represented as a protection of childbirth, since both infant mortality and death from childbirth back then is still really high; or perhaps a cult that associating a religious idea of prosperity and survival after death with the image of a woman and a child. It is by the 2nd millennium BC, that those figures begin to have exaggerated sexual features and might have represented some sort of deity that we known today as the predecessor of Aphrodite.

This can also be supported by the later Roman historical sources of Tacitus during his trip to Cyprus (as the island had been transformed into a Roman province during that time), when they first stepping their foot into the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Paleopaphos. (translated to “Old Paphos”, now in the modern day Kouklia, Cyprus). “Blood may not be shed upon the altar, but offering is made only with prayers and pure fire. The altar is never wet by any rain, although it is in the open air. ” Tacitus said; “The representation of the goddess is not in human form, but it is a circular mass that is broader at the base and rises like a turning-post to a small circumference at the top. The reason for this is obscure.”

Note: A lot of the objects that had been mentioned above are now currently exhibited in the Cyprus Archeological Museum in Nicosia and the London’s British Museum. The aniconic representation of Aphrodite is now currently held in the Kouklia Museum.

“The Herodotus’ statement that the oldest cults of Aphrodite in Greece had been established in Phoenician settlers may contain a broader element of truth. The goddess had very strong associations with the island of Cyprus […]. And from the time of Homer onwards the epithet most commonly applied to her was ‘Cypris’, or ‘the Cyprian’. It is possible that she started life as a local Cyprian love goddess who took on some of Astarte’s characteristics when the island was colonized by the Phoenicians in the ninth century BC.”

Well, I think Herodotus’ statement is half-correct, but in my opinion, the goddess still seemed to be much more Cyprian than ever. As she had once claimed as “the local Great Goddess of Cyprus”, she is neither Greek or Middle Eastern In the first place. But her transformation into the modern Aphrodite that we worship, know, and love today (along with her association of aggressive sexuality and war) might have taken place when the island itself become the trading center and the target of numerous conquests of foreign powers from Near East and the West.

When Cyprus began to exploit its copper resources and traded it with the Levant, the island began to expose with the cultural influences from the Near East and its religious pantheon of goddesses such as Ishtar and Astarte, which were derived from the goddess Inanna of the older and earlier Sumerian pantheon. We can say around this time here Aphrodite begins to inherit her overwhelming power over sexuality, global fertility, and prosperity; the universal connection, the powers over kings and men, as well as the story of her sacred marriage to the mortal shepherd king Adonis/ Tammuz/ Dumuzi. (And their venturing to the Underworld realm to find her lost love.)

In 1200 BC-1100 BC, with the arrival of Greek colonists from both the Aegean Sea and Crete, they may have adopted the local goddess, identifying her with some female deity they already worshipped, as they also gradually hellenised her, favouring the development of a new type of figurine. New waves of religious movements also brought into the island by the Greeks, as we begin to see the goddess look a bit like those Mycenaean figurines - a cylindrical body; her arms are raised in a ritual gesture and she wears an imposing headdress and a long dress.

On and off again till the Greek Archaic period, with the colony settlement of the Ancient Phoenician in the city of Kition and rebuilding of several temples in 900 BC, the goddess Aphrodite begin to be depicted either as a naked figurine holding her breasts (influenced from religious practices Syria-Palestinian coast) or a priestess woman, who wearing heavy garments and rich jewelry. From the 6th to the 4th century BC, when the local Cypriots begin to feel conscious of their Greek heritage and cultural identity (as most of the population in modern-day Cyprus today often called themselves Greek Cypriots) and that the cult of Aphrodite had begun to reach many parts of mainland Greece, the goddess, and her worshippers now shown in Greek dresses and features but were still distinct in their lavish ornamentation and rich jewelry. Sometimes the goddess was shown with vegetal or turreted crowns symbolizing prosperity and protector of cities, which appeared in coinage as the great deity of Cyprus offering protection. Since there is an abundance of offerings in the ruins of what appeared to be sanctuaries all over Cyprus, the cult of Aphrodite may have probably included an abundance of offerings in the sanctuaries with the playing of the tambourine and the lyre, incense burning, dancing, giving oracles, the offering of doves, young animals, flowers, and vases. And by the end of the 4th century BC, she finally assimilated with the goddess Aphrodite from mainland Greece as “one in the same.”

However, this seemed to be a problematic time to living in for the Greek Cypriots themselves, like the Assyrians, Egyptians, and Persians succeeded one another as rulers of the island. Around 709 BC, King Sargon II of Assyria extorted submission taxes from Cyprus in exchange for the island’s independence, before forced to leaving for another conflict in 699 BC. The Egyptian pharaoh Amasis II also used to same policy as the Assyrians, when he claimed to be the ruler of the island in 560 BC; before the whole region was conquered by Persia and later freed by Alexander the Great.

“As a divine being, Aphrodite had close links with the Semitic goddess of love, Ishtar/Astarte, who was worshiped in Mesopotamia and Phoenicia. (Historical example of an athlete who dedicated women as prostitutes to an Aphrodite’s temple follows).”

About the sources that have mentioned about “sacred prostitution”, may I ask your OP how old was that source currently? Like when was the source being published and viewed as “a trustworthy academic source”, and had it been reviewed, revised, and edited throughout the years yet? Since the factors that regarded its historicity value and its rituals taking place are still currently heatedly debated in academia to this day. And about the example that regarding the athlete, the author can just say that the event had been famously taken place at Aphrodite’s temple at Corinth itself.

Anyone who has found/ have additional sources or have something to say about the post, feel free to reblog and add stuff! And please perhaps correct me even, I am happy to hear what your guys thought about this.

Hi!Sorry for coming here out of nowhere and bothering you but I have a question about Hellenic Polytheism.I'm new to this religion and I still have a lot to learn.Recently I've seen some posts about oaths and just reading about this topic really scares me cause I have intrusive thoughts and I'm scared of having thoughts randomly popping in my head and thinking about some disrespectul scenarios.

Do you think that the dieties are aware or acknowledge that I'm struggling with these thoughts and are patient with me?

I once again apologize for bothering you!!I hope you have a nice day/night!!!Thank you!!

Avatar

Hello, dear! 🌞

You didn't bother me at all, thank you for coming along!

I believe They are more than aware that mortals are capable of having mental struggles. And I do believe that They are patient with us, too, regardless of what we deal with. If I were to look for "proof" of that, I'd look into Their epithets and titles: Saviors, Protectors, Kind, Hospitable, Loving, Of All People, Releasers, Liberators, and more depending on the God. Seems to me like Ancients saw universal Contentment in the Gods: "They know us better than we will ever know ourselves", which sort of brings me a lot of comfort because I don't need to... explain my mental issues to Them? For one, there's not a single myth about anyone being punished for... thoughtcrime.

Hubris is intentional, conscious, and aimed. Intrusive thoughts are not. You are not committing offense by having intrusive thoughts.

I follow the logic that if the basis of this religion is to believe that Gods absolutely do know better and hold higher judgement, They are also fair to Their followers and do not punish anyone for having mental illnesses and disruptions of thought process due to mental illnesses.

The existence of Dionysus proves to me They care of our mental health. Their epithets prove to me They are loving, patient, protective guardians rather than fearsome Gods that want to force you into things.

So, I believe we - you, me, whoever else - are safe with Them.

P. S. Oaths are completely volitional. You don't have to take one, and even when something is "binding" I truly believe They know when the person has struggles with keeping up with it due to mental instability.

Wishing you a safe night or day. 🌞

We need everyone's help right now to protect the rainforest and Indigenous People

The Amazon Rainforest is under a massive threat. I know you've heard this a million times, but this is different. There is a piece of legislation that will decimate the rights of Indigenous people of Brazil, who have been protecting the rainforest. It's unfathomably bad. It has majority support. And they're voting tomorrow. As reported here, the Bill allows "the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples."

The thing you can do—and I know this sounds overly simple—is sign this petition—and tell your friends to do the same: SIGN HERE.

As reported here, the Bill allows "the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples."

Again, this bill has majority support. You may be wondering, why will a petition signed by people who don't live in Brazil make any difference? Because it will give those opposing it political air cover. It will show the world is with them.

But we need a LOT of signatures.

Please do this simple act and spread the word.
