I think that the character and story of Sara, the orange mermaid princess, is one of the best aspects of Mermaid Melody.

Unlike Lucia and the other mermaids who are young and innocent in many regards, Sara is a mature mermaid who has experienced the reality of heartbreak, devastation, loneliness and desperation. Her emotional development, told through the symbols of color and song, tells the story of the the immense power of love and redemption.

Sara’s story is heart-wrenchingly beautiful.

Lady Bat is a vampire who sings her victims into a trance so she can “kiss” them. How can you not love her?
