Well folks, I realized there was not a single Moby Dick vine compilation on YouTube, so I decided to be my own hero and make one. I hope some people other than me enjoy this.
This should be my pinned post. I’m pinning this.

Ann Fessler, The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade
This is one of multiple examples in this book of women recounting how they were financially coerced into relinquishing their babies for adoption by being told they would have to pay for the time they spent in unwed mother homes if they decided to keep their babies. There are also stories about girls who were denied pain medication during birth and institutionalized by their families for refusing to sign adoption papers.
It’s truly remarkable how much of a coup it was for the anti-abortion movement that adoption has come to be seen as the humane, moral, “win win” alternative to abortion when for decades (and continuing into the present) women and girls were essentially forced into relinquishing their children to “deserving” families without being informed of their rights or given the tools to financially support a baby. And the fact that this view of infant adoption (telegenic young woman gives her baby to an older more stable couple so it can have a better life and she can continue to be upwardly mobile) still looms so large in our collective consciousness with little consideration of how much of a “choice” birth mothers are really making is a testament to how efficiently these women’s life stories have been sidelined and ignored.

these people tell on themselvesss like they’ll swear up and down that skincare is about ✨self care✨ and 🌱health 🌱 and 🤍 pampering yourself 🤍 and not an obsessive fear of aging and ugliness that’s being exploited by a 100 billion dollar industry, but if you express any modicum of surprise or exasperation or disinterest at their nightly twelve-step routine, they’re like shut up you ugly wrinkled dusty hag. umm okay patrick bateman but i thought it was about self care not beauty 🤔

it's so bizarre, and of course a LOT of the emmys are a political industry popularity contest, but i feel like bcs - widely regarded by viewers and critics alike as one of the best series of all-time, even at this point often held above the high standard set by its predecessor - is so immensely overshadowed by breaking bad and the (rightful) acclaim it got, and its pop cultural impact, that they just see it as a pointless extension, and are like, "didn't we already give them their awards?" and the answer is, NO, YOU DIDN'T, and it will forever remain totally baffling, if not disgraceful, in the category of awards snubs.
regardless of this, it was one of the most beautifully acted, directed, overall written, and so on, series that has ever been on television, and i'll always believe that, and i am so grateful it existed, and so glad i got to share it with all of you.
I know this is news to nobody but the tabloids are just insane about Meghan Markle I mean seriously look at this:
A blatant attempt to make Meghan seem entitled and brattish - even though she's the only one of the four to have actually ever worked for a living but whatever I guess - and when you watch the videoin question (the one where they are getting to the palace to greet people and see the tributes) two things 1) it seems someone did open the doors for all of them i might have gotten that wrong bc it is at a distance but thats what it looked like to me 2) shes out of the car like a second after Harry its not like there was some awkward delay. This is just making shit up and its always phrased like innocent speculation "hmm I wonder if she thought someone was gonna open the door" but its obviously intended to make her sound like a diva also this is in the context of the Royal Family who are probably the most entitled people on the planet but sure the real problem is the black woman getting out the car slightly after her husband.
